A Must-Have, Truly Life-Saving
This device is incredibly easy to use and quite literally may have saved our lives. We had an intermittent carbon monoxide (CO) leak that was extremely difficult to locate. CO levels would read normal most of the day, then our detectors would randomly go off. We initially assumed the detectors were faulty or expired and replaced all of them, only to have the new ones do the same thing.We called the fire department. At the time they arrived, CO levels in our basement and laundry room read zero, but I noticed they were using a handheld device similar to this one. I immediately ordered this detector, and within 24 hours we found the source of the problem.The issue turned out to be cracked PVC venting pipe attached to our relatively new tankless water heater. CO levels only spiked when hot water was running in the house. At which point levels reached as high as 1,800 ppm, according to the installer. The vent runs out in our laundry room, meaning I had been intermittently exposed to high levels of CO for some time. I hadn’t been feeling well for a while and didn’t know why, until now.This device helped us pinpoint the exact source of the leak when standard CO detectors could not. I strongly recommend having both properly installed CO alarms and a portable carbon monoxide detector like this one. It’s an absolute must-have for home safety.

Nice to have on hand to rule out issue if it arises
My tenant was complaining about headaches and not feeling well within hours of coming home to the nice rental appt. I provided him one of these and he ruled out that it was carbon monoxide poisoning. Now, if you really suspect carbon monoxide poisoning get out of the house immediately and call your utility. But if you're not sure what's going on in the place, might as well have one of these on hand to rule it out. Tenant seems to be doing fine, bought him a top notch air purifier and think it may have been just airborne dust etc. or allergies but it cleared up.

Looks good so far
I am planning to use this to locate an exhaust leak on my car and then just check things around the house. The sensor used on this device is a DD Scientific S+42ECOS. According to the data sheet is has a 10 year life span, response time less than 30 seconds, and a resolution of <1ppm. Granted, depending on how the device is designed and the firmware written, it might not actually operate at that resolution. Note that the sensor can be damaged by extreme levels of CO (above 2000ppm). But for the average person and for most household and even some minor industry projects, this should be a good sensor. I'll check it with my car exhaust and update this review if I find any issues.
