The Elitech ILD-200 is the infrared answer to refrigerant sniffing — an IR sensor cell that resists poisoning and holds its sensitivity far longer than consumable-element designs.

Why the Elitech ILD-200 bets on infrared

Sniffer sensors age, and a desensitized detector lies quietly. Infrared cells resist the drift and contamination that wear out heated-diode elements, which is the ILD-200's pitch: consistent sensitivity across a long service life, with the response characteristics IR brings. As gas detectors go, this is the long-life infrared pick, and the gas detection guide and the combustible vs leak detector guide put it in context. It keeps its nose as it ages.

Safety first: a gas instrument alarms or reads; it does not protect. In an IDLH or oxygen-deficient atmosphere you must evacuate and use supplied-air or an SCBA — a handheld sniffer pinpoints leaks and a meter reads concentrations, but neither guards an occupied space the way fixed monitoring and ventilation do. Calibrate and bump-test on the manufacturer schedule, confirm the sensor type and range on the listing, and treat every reading as a reason to investigate, not a substitute for a monitoring program.

What the Elitech ILD-200 listing documents

From the listing: an infrared sensor cell; a long-life sensing design; and a refrigerant-service form factor. These are refrigerant leak detector and infrared leak detector credentials as a HVAC leak sniffer. Confirm every specification on the listing before relying on it, and record what you deploy — an instrument or device is only as defensible as the documentation and maintenance schedule behind it, so log the model, the service dates and the checks the same way you log the rest of the safety program.

How the Elitech ILD-200 compares

One tool rarely covers every job, so weigh this one against the range before standardizing: the TopTes PT520A, the TopTes PT210S, the TopTes RT-389, the Forensics leak detector, the TopTes PT-830S. Matching the technology and format to the actual task beats buying on brand alone, and the best 4-gas monitor guide and the diffusion vs pump guide walk through the decision.

Building out the toolkit

Detection and control work as a system — service instruments to find problems, monitors to watch spaces, accessories to keep everything verified, and lockout hardware to keep energy controlled during the fix — and the weak link is usually not the tool but the routine around it, because an instrument that skips its bump test or a device that skips its inspection carries authority it no longer deserves, so schedule the checks with the same seriousness as the purchase. Browse the gas leak detectors, portable gas detectors, personal gas detectors, area gas monitors, calibration accessories collections; and read the personal monitor guide to plan the wider program.

Where it fits and crew orders

The ILD-200 suits techs who want sensor longevity over the cheapest upfront price — compare it with the Norlab cal gas, browse the wider carbon dioxide detectors and 4-gas monitors ranges, and confirm detectable refrigerants against the blends you service. For crew orders, quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account — volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations, with the walkthrough linked in our footer.

It works good!
It works! For the price, I actually expected it to not work or at least not very well, but I used it to locate a leak in my ac coil and it only took a few minutes to detect the leak. With this detector, I was able to get the ac manufacturer to replace the unit.

Good quality tool , and very handy to narrow down leaks for soapy solutions.
Great value for the money. Just follow the instructions and understand how these work. They need to "warm up in clean air", and need to be periodically purged in clean air to clear the sensor. This tool is invaluable for systems like multi head minisplits, with hidden flares.

Worth the investment
Definitely works and gets the job done. If you need something cheap and useful or maybe you’re just starting out. This is the way to go. Only reason it wasn’t given a 5 star is because the sensor is too sensitive and be easily damaged. Other than that, it works great and will absolutely help you find a leak!

Great sensitivity and easy
Way better than my other current meter at picking up smaller leaks, at least for R410. And easy to use. And claims a 10 year life. Not tested that yet, but that would be great. Was an issue with my last sniffer that did not last more than a year or so it seemed.

ILD-200 works great on R410A. Wish I bought this sooner.
This review is for ILD-200. It is a shame they mix all the reviews together for 3 different models. I had a leak on a R410A mini split that I couldn't find with leak spray. This thing arrived in one day fully charged. I've never used a leak detector before. I read about two sentences of the instructions and turned it on. I checked several different parts of the system. Even on high sensitivity I got zero false positives. When I got to the area of the leak the beeper went off 100%, even when I turned down the sensitivity. It is actually a pretty big leak although the bubble liquid barely indicated it even after the detector showed where it was. I may never need this again but I'm keeping it. This thing is a solid performer on R410A which I believe is one of the harder ones to detect.
