The X100 construction positioning harness β€” 3M DBI-SALA

A construction positioning harness needs hip D-rings so a worker can lean back and work hands-free, and the 3M DBI-SALA ExoFit X100 Construction Positioning delivers that on the ExoFit comfort platform. It has three D-ring connections β€” a back D-ring for fall arrest plus two hip D-rings for positioning β€” with back and hip comfort padding, a quick-connect chest buckle, tongue-buckle legs, an anti-slide dorsal plate with an SRL adapter, and integrated trauma straps. It is rated to 420 lb and built to ANSI Z359.11, all at the entry X100 tier.

What the X100 Construction Positioning is for

Construction and maintenance where a worker needs both fall arrest and hands-free positioning β€” forming, rebar, and wall work where you lean back on the hip D-rings. It sits in the full body harnesses collection, is the B (body wear) in the ABC system explained in the fall protection equipment guide and the ABCDs of fall protection, and applies wherever a fall hazard triggers the rules in when is fall protection required.

Building the system around the harness

Use the back D-ring with a rated lanyard from the lanyards collection β€” ranked in the best fall protection lanyards guide β€” or a self-retracting lifeline on the SRL adapter, and the hip D-rings with a positioning lanyard, then anchor from the anchor points collection sized to the anchor strength requirements and ranked in the best roof anchors guide, joined with a rated carabiner. Inspect the harness to the harness inspection checklist; the built-in trauma straps back up your suspension trauma rescue plan.

How the X100 Construction Positioning compares

The X100 Comfort Vest is the same tier without hip D-rings β€” general fall arrest only. Step up and the ExoFit X200 Construction Positioning adds a stand-up D-ring and dual-locking buckles, and the ExoFit X300 tops the line. For a value positioning option, the Protecta First has side D-rings at a budget price. Browse the range in the harness collection or build a complete rig from the best fall protection kits. Everything lives in the fall protection collection.

Safety note: a harness is one part of a personal fall arrest system β€” it protects you only with a rated lanyard, SRL, or lifeline, a rated anchor, and a connector, under OSHA 1926.502. Connect fall arrest to the back D-ring only; the hip D-rings are for positioning as a pair and are not rated for fall arrest. Set the torso adapters so the dorsal D-ring sits between the shoulder blades, run the clearance math for your connecting device, deploy the trauma straps only after a fall while awaiting rescue, and retire the harness after any fall or any sign of webbing, padding, or hardware damage.

Ordering FAQ

Is the 3M DBI-SALA ExoFit X100 Construction Positioning harness in stock and ready to ship?
This listing is active and ships through Amazon. Select your size; the linked Amazon listing carries live price and delivery.

What D-rings does it have?
Three connections β€” a back (dorsal) D-ring for fall arrest and two hip D-rings for work positioning. That is what makes it a positioning harness rather than a plain fall-arrest vest.

How is it different from the X100 Comfort Vest?
The Comfort Vest has a back D-ring only and is general purpose; this Construction Positioning model adds the two hip D-rings and hip padding for leaning-back positioning work, plus a quick-connect chest buckle.

Can I use the hip D-rings for fall arrest?
No β€” hip D-rings are for work positioning only, used as a pair with a positioning lanyard. Fall arrest always connects to the back D-ring.

What is the weight capacity and what standards does it meet?
It is rated to 420 lb and meets ANSI Z359.11, OSHA 1910.140, and OSHA 1926.502.

What comfort features does it have?
Nylon and polyester hybrid comfort padding at the back and hips, revolving torso adapters that lock the fit, an anti-slide dorsal D-ring plate, and integrated suspension trauma relief straps.

What buckles does it use?
A quick-connect chest buckle for fast donning and tongue-buckle leg straps. That is a step up from the pass-through chest on the X100 Comfort Vest, while staying below the X200 and X300 quick-connect leg buckles.

Does it have an SRL adapter?
Yes β€” the anti-slide back D-ring plate provides a location to connect a personal self-retracting lifeline at the back.

Where does it sit in the ExoFit line?
It is the entry X100 tier in a construction-positioning configuration. The X200 and X300 add features like a stand-up D-ring and auto-locking buckles at higher prices.

What sizes does it come in?
Sized rather than one-size β€” S, M, L, and 2X. Check the size chart; reviewers note the fit runs trim, so size up if you are between sizes.

Can I use it for rock or tree climbing?
No β€” 3M labels this an industrial/occupational fall-protection product. It is not intended for recreational or sporting climbing.

How do I inspect the harness before use?
Check the webbing for cuts, fraying, burns, and chemical damage; the stitching for pulled threads; the back and hip D-rings, SRL plate, and buckles for cracks, corrosion, and correct function; and the padding and trauma straps for wear. Remove it from service after any fall or if any part is damaged.

How do I reorder for a crew?
Reorder from this page β€” the linked Amazon listing makes equipping each worker in the right size quick.

Great harness
Loved everything about this harness. I was on the borderline on the size chart of needing the size large but tried this one first as you don’t want to go too big. I’m 6’0 and 220ish lbs, semi dad bod figure and the medium was a bit tight. Returned in unused condition and the ordered a large. Great product nonetheless.
