What the TopTes Guard-156 detects (and what it doesn’t)

The Guard-156 detects oxygen (O2), combustible gas (LEL), carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) only — no VOCs, CO2 or single toxics like chlorine or ammonia. It is a diffusion instrument, so for remote sampling before entry choose a pump unit such as the Forensics Detectors 4 Gas Monitor with Pump. Bump-test with four-gas calibration gas before use. The Guard-101 is the lower-cost sibling; the Guard-863Pro adds color screen and USB export. Pair with a clip from Personal & Wearable Gas Detectors for single-worker wear.

Cross-shopping? This unit sits in our Portable Gas Detectors hub alongside the Forensics Detectors 4 Gas Meter, Forensics Detectors USB 4 Gas Monitor, TopTes Guard-863Pro, TopTes Guard-101. If one worker needs all-shift wear instead of a carried meter, see Personal & Wearable Gas Detectors; for a fixed install or a job-site perimeter, see Fixed Gas Detection Systems and Area & Transportable Gas Monitors.

Gas detection
This checks the presents of petroleum gas, h2s, and the absence of o2. Find it useful for helping find gas leaks. The other test are good to have but probably not as useful around the home.

The battery at 80% after 12 hours?
Update: The "non-standard plug-in cable" has made this device a suffering to charge. A majority of my devices use a USB-C plugin, while this one uses a unconventional plugin. -1 star-----Update: it's clipped to my shirt collar middle. When I was sitting for lunch, about 2 seconds after I farted, it went off like crazy... Saying CO 150PPM!! Not sure if this is a fluke or what not?----I'm not sure if it's a fluke or is it really reportingaccurate information. The first day it was only 15% battery after 12 hours, but the next few days has been 80% battery left after 12 hours.I'm not sure if there's a bug or not??It hasn't died on me yet.I'm in a warehouse where they keep the doors closed and the ventilation off all night long while the propane trucks run around on the floor. This device reports when I get there it starts around 2 PPM CO when starting the shift, then gravitates to 6 PPM CO by the end of the shift.I've read you should have no more than 50 PPM for 8 hours according to OSHA?I told a higher up why I wear this device, that we have propane trucks running around while the doors are closed and the ventilation is off in this warehouse. He said something about doing something about it, but I'm not completely trusting he'll go thru with it.So, wearing this for my own personal safety.I did the only test I know. Put it near the exhaust, and within a minute, it goes off. I didn't put it in the flow of the exhaust as I'm not sure if that's safe for this device.I wish I knew a better way to test this device.Any changes, I'll report.

Detects flammable gases, H2S, O2 and CO in realtime
The gas detector is about 2 ½ inches wide, over an inch thick and slightly over 5 inches tall. It has a strong metal clip on the back. It includes a gas hood, a charging cable and a hard plastic storage case.According to the manual, the built-in battery is 3.7 volts and has a capacity of 2000 mAh. I also see the same information on the back of the unit. Also on the back is the explosion-proof number along with the logos of CE, UKCA, FCC, and RoHS. I also see on the back that it’s made in China. Under the specifications and on the back of the gas detector, I read that it has 4 different sensors.I think the LEL sensor is really important. It measures the lower explosive limit, which tells me if there's enough flammable gas in the air to cause an explosion. It's like an early warning system that helps me stay safe. The O2 sensor checks the oxygen levels in the air. If the oxygen drops too low, the detector alerts me if the O2 levels fall below safe limits. The unit also alerts me if oxygen levels go to high - threshold set at 23.5% by default. The H2S sensor detects hydrogen sulfide, which smells like rotten eggs but can quickly become odorless at high concentrations. It's highly toxic and can be deadly. The detector warns me if H2S levels start to rise, so I can get out of there fast. The CO sensor detects odorless, colorless, and also deadly carbon monoxide. The detector alerts me if CO levels are unsafe, like near a generator.I can change the alarm thresholds in the gas detector’s menu, but I leave them at their default values. I only have three buttons on the front of the unit. The power button doubles as the menu button. I press it once to enter the menu. I corrected the time and left everything else at default. In working mode, I see on the screen the percentage of explosive gases, oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, and the carbon monoxide concentration in ppm. In my home, the percentage of explosive gases and hydrogen sulfide is 0%, oxygen is at around 20.9%, and carbon monoxide is at 0 ppm. The sensors are highly sensitive. I believe it detects in real-time because when I exhale at the sensors, the alarm goes off with three lights blinking red whenever it goes below 19.5%.

Excellent Gas Monitor Device
The TOPTES Guard-156 4 Gas Monitor has been a fantastic addition to my safety gear, and I couldn’t be happier with how well it performs. It’s solidly built, packed with useful features, and incredibly easy to use. The device can detect four key gases (H2S, CO, LEL, and O2) makes it versatile enough for both work and home safety needs.Setting it up was simple, and it works even better than I expected. During my tests, it detected gas leaks in just 2-3 seconds, which was faster than advertised. The triple alarm system (visual, vibration, and sound) is a great touch and it’s impossible to miss, even in noisy environments, but not so loud that it’s annoying. I also love that you can customize the alarm thresholds for each type of gas.It is super portable and durable, which I really appreciate it. The clip holds securely to my clothing, and the D-ring gives me another option for attaching it if needed. It stayed in place the entire time I was using it, which made things so much easier. The included hard case might feel a bit fancy, but it does a great job protecting the monitor and its accessories.I tested it on my gas stove, an unlit BBQ, and even with CO2 from a plastic bag, and it worked perfectly every time. While I didn’t get the chance to test H2S, the monitor’s accuracy with the other gases gives me full confidence in its capabilities. The alarm history and diagnostics page are also super handy for tracking past events and keeping everything in check.Battery life is excellent and a quick charge gets you up to 15 hours of use, and the low-battery alert is a nice safety net. The device feels premium, and the rugged, dustproof, waterproof, and explosion-proof design makes it ideal for any environment.Overall, the Guard-156 has been an incredible tool for me. It is reliable, well designed, and gives me peace of mind whether I am at work or at home. Highly recommended!

A "must have" instrument for everyone!
This H2S, CO, LEL, and O2 monitor by TOPTES is very useful for locating sources of hydrogen sulfide gas which is basically what makes up sewage gas. Sometimes it's really difficult to locate a source, especially when you have multiple potential sources in the same general vicinity. As far as Carbon monoxide gas, it is impossible to know if it exists or not without a detector because it is oderless. Oxygen is important because it is easily explosive if concentrations are too high and deadly if too low. And, of course, the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) percentage is important for overall safety. This tool is well made, accurate, well protected in it's really nice case, and helps you to easily locate the source of the toxic gas. It's a great pumbers tool, but it's also a big plus for all trades, DIYers, landlords and even homeowners. As far as I am concerned, it is a "must have" instrument and everyone should own one. At it's low price point, it is a real bargain and literally can be life saving! When not in use, it's safely protected in it's top quality case. Highly recommended!Review for: TOPTES Guard-156 4 Gas Monitor Multi Gas Detector for H2S, CO, LEL, and O2, Triple Alarm Modes (Visual, Vibration, Sound), 0.5s Fast Response, Dust and Explosion Proof Design for Work and Home Safety 2411-063
