What the BW GasAlertMicroClip XL detects (and what it doesn’t)

It monitors O2, LEL combustibles, CO and H2S — the confined-space four-gas set. It does not read VOCs, CO2 or specific toxics like chlorine; those need a PID or dedicated sensor. It is a diffusion instrument, so for remote pre-entry sampling use a Portable Gas Detectors pump monitor. For the lowest-maintenance wearable 4-gas, compare the sealed BW Clip4; for single-hazard wear, the BW Clip H2S family. Automate bump/cal with IntelliDoX or MicroDock.

  • Choose the GasAlertMicroClip XL for a serviceable, datalogging 4-gas wearable with docking automation.
  • Pick the BW Clip4 for a sealed 2-year maintenance-free 4-gas with no charging.
  • Only one hazard? A single-gas BW Clip costs far less per worker.

Frequently asked questions

What gases does the GasAlertMicroClip XL detect?

O2, LEL combustibles, CO and H2S — the standard confined-space set. For VOCs you need a PID; see the Gas Detectors range.

How is the MicroClip XL different from the BW Clip4?

The MicroClip XL is rechargeable and serviceable with datalogging and docking; the BW Clip4 is sealed and 2-year maintenance-free with no charging.

Does it log data?

Yes — it provides full datalogging that downloads through IntelliDoX or MicroDock II for compliance records.

How do I bump-test and calibrate it?

Use four-gas calibration gas; the IntelliDoX or MicroDock II docking stations automate bump testing and calibration and record the results.

Is it good for confined-space entry?

Yes for personal monitoring during entry. Pre-entry sampling of a sealed space still needs a Portable Gas Detectors pump instrument.

Is the MicroClip XL rechargeable?

Yes — it uses a rechargeable battery with extended run time for full-shift wear; recharge between shifts.

What alarms does it have?

Audible, visual and vibrating alarms trigger when any of the four gases exceeds its set point.

Does it have a pump?

This model is diffusion. For remote sample-draw before entry, use a pump-equipped Portable Gas Detectors monitor.

What does it not detect?

No VOCs, CO2 or gas-specific toxics like chlorine or ammonia. For VOC work use a PID; browse the Gas Detectors hub.

Who is the MicroClip XL for?

Crews that need full four-gas coverage per worker with datalogging and docking — utilities, oil and gas, and confined-space teams. For one hazard, a single-gas BW Clip is cheaper.

Is it in stock and how does it ship?

Use the Amazon buy button for live availability and delivery timing through our fulfillment partner.

Does it come with docking or calibration gas?

Docking stations and calibration gas are sold separately. Budget for IntelliDoX/MicroDock and four-gas calibration gas for an automated program.

Four gas detector is a potential life saver
This 4-gas detector is a must, especially if your employer does not provide one and you occasionally work in suspected hazardous environments. I do a few site inspections a year, and I’m the only one doing them, so we don’t have an employee PPE program for detector issuance. If that’s your situation too, consider getting this detector to protect yourself.

40-50% failure rate on calibration
During our 6 month calibration testing we perform using a 3rd party, we have a 40-50% failure rate. Several different testing 3rd parties all coming back with the same failed O2 sensor results. The monitors cost more to fix than to buy new! Spending way to much on these failing monitors due to failed 02 sensors. Average repair cost = $250.00 + calibration costs exceeding the $500 monitor. Life on an O2 sensors should be 5 years, some calibration sources say to replace every 2 to avoid issues. Life on these seem to be 6 months - 1 year before failure, not ideal by any means.

best on the market
work excellent we buy these a few at a time every couple of years for our crews. they usually need to be calibrated right out of the box so if you're not equipped for that or don't have the gasses to do so then i would buy directly from the manufacturer. the price isn't a big difference.
