It captures particulate, but it does not remove gases or vapors and it does not add oxygen, so even a powered respirator like the PX5 may not be used in an oxygen-deficient atmosphere or one that is immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH) — those require a supplied-air respirator or a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and, for confined spaces, entry procedures. For organic vapor or acid gas, switch to the PX5 combination cartridge rather than assuming the HE filter covers gases.
