ASTM F2413 treats them as separate ratings: only a boot carrying the EH mark is tested for secondary protection against open electrical circuits, and that protection is voided by wet soles, worn outsoles or embedded metal. Work on or near energised parts is controlled by a zero-energy state and the NFPA 70E arc-flash program first; footwear is the last layer, never the plan.

The Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP leather preservative is an all-natural beeswax-and-oil paste that penetrates work-boot leather and preserves it against water, salt, chemicals, and cracking. It is the heavy-duty field standard for full-grain leather boots that take a beating, and it is made in the USA. If your leather boots see mud, snowmelt, or chemical splash, this is the paste to keep them supple and water-shedding.

Boot care splits into two jobs, and this paste does both. Conditioning puts oils back into leather so the fibers stay flexible and do not dry out and crack. Waterproofing lays a barrier that sheds water so the leather does not soak through. How often to treat: condition when the leather starts to look dry or dull, or after a hard soaking, cleaning, and dry-out. For daily-wear field boots that is roughly every few weeks; for lighter use, every month or two. Always apply to clean, dry leather, work it in, and let it cure before wearing. One caution: an oil-and-wax paste like this darkens leather and is for smooth full-grain leather only. Do not use it on suede or nubuck, where oils mat and ruin the napped surface.
