MSA Low Profile P100 Particulate Filter Overview

The MSA Low Profile P100 Filter is a NIOSH-approved low-profile P100 particulate filter for MSA Comfo respirators. It captures at least 99.97% of airborne particles and is oil-proof. Its low-profile shape keeps your view clear. Start with our filter types explained and organic vapor vs P100 guides, then confirm fit in Comfo vs Advantage.

As an MSA Comfo P100 filter it belongs to the MSA respirator filters and cartridges range. Use it for particulate-only work, or pair it with an MSA gas cartridge when vapors are present.

Where the MSA Low Profile P100 Filter Fits

The MSA Low Profile P100 Filter handles airborne particulate only. For gases you need an MSA cartridge such as the GMA organic vapor or GMB acid gas, or a combination cartridge like the GMA/P100.

What Does the MSA Low Profile P100 Filter Protect Against?

Hazard Fit Buyer guidance
Dust, mist, fume, lead (particulate) Yes — P100 ≥99.97%, oil-proof.
Oil-based mist Yes P100 is oil-proof.
Gases & vapors No Pair with an MSA gas cartridge.

What the MSA Low Profile P100 Filter Does NOT Protect Against

The MSA Low Profile P100 Filter does not capture gases or vapors. Add the GMA for organic vapor, the GMB for acid gas, or use the all-in-one GMA/P100.

No air-purifying cartridge makes a dangerous atmosphere safe. Never use the MSA Low Profile P100 Filter in an oxygen-deficient or IDLH (immediately dangerous to life or health) atmosphere, in unknown concentrations, or against gases with no warning properties — those conditions require a supplied-air or SCBA system, not a cartridge respirator.

Best Applications

General particulate & lead

Grinding, sanding and lead dust at P100; see filter types explained.

Pairing with a gas cartridge

Add a Comfo gas cartridge for vapors, or use a combination cartridge like the GMA/P100.

MSA Low Profile P100 Filter vs the Alternatives

How it compares to the closest MSA options:

  • MSA Low Profile P100 Filter vs GMA/P100: this filter is particulate only; the GMA/P100 builds the same P100 into an organic-vapor cartridge.
  • MSA Low Profile P100 Filter vs SparkFoe P100: the SparkFoe version adds spark/static resistance for welding.
  • MSA Low Profile P100 Filter vs an MSA gas cartridge: a gas cartridge stops vapors; this filter stops particulate — many jobs need both.

99.97% protection against COVID 19 mists
If you have, or can find to buy, the MSA Classic Comfo 1/2 mask, this is the cartridge you want to deal with COVID 19. (these are not combination cartridges—they filter out mists and particles only). These P100 cartridges filter out 99.97% of all mists/particles, etc. A N95 mask filters out 95 % of all particles. So, these are the best you can do to protect yourself in public—nothing better except a full face mask using these same cartridges. I’m, 76 years old and wear this every time I am mingling with the public. Stay safe. Note, you can find these from other vendors. Just be sure to order # MSA 815177.

The "N" is not.95>100 Finer particle stoppage.Speculation: I think these do not have use by date because they do not have activated charcoal filtering.
