Coatings Duramass Hard Coat
Tints Clear, Light Blue, I/O Mirror
Price $9.99 per pair

The MCR Safety BearKat BK2 offers the BearKat wraparound in a slimmer, lower-profile frame with three Duramass-coated variants: Clear, Light Blue, and I/O Mirror. Compared to the BearKat BK1's 11 variants and larger frame, the BK2 trades tint selection for a lighter, more form-fitting frame that sits closer to the face. Workers who find standard safety glass frames overly bulky, slide down the nose during active work, or simply prefer a sportier silhouette will find the BK2 a comfortable alternative at the same $9.99 price. For the widest BearKat tint selection including Amber and mirrors, see the BearKat BK1; for a softer nose bridge on the BK frame, see the BearKat BK3.

Key Features

  • Slim low-profile frame: Lower vertical height and tighter wrap than the BK1 creates a more form-fitting profile — sits closer to the face, reduces the tendency to slide down the nose during forward-bend work, and has a lighter overall appearance.
  • Duramass scratch-resistant hard coat on all three variants: All BK2 variants (Clear, Light Blue, I/O Mirror) include Duramass hard coat as standard — no uncoated base option in the BK2 lineup.
  • Light Blue tint (BK213): Low-contrast outdoor tint for overcast or variable-light conditions — not as darkening as Gray but reduces the harshness of flat outdoor light without the extreme contrast enhancement of Amber.
  • I/O Mirror tint (BK219): Indoor/Outdoor mirror shifts apparent tint based on ambient light, allowing one pair to function in both dimmer indoor spaces and brighter outdoor environments without switching glasses.
  • Wraparound geometry with lateral coverage: The slim BK2 frame still wraps past the brow and temple to reduce lateral particle ingress — the tighter profile does not sacrifice coverage for appearance.
  • $9.99 with Duramass standard: Economy price with no uncoated option means every BK2 shipped has the scratch-resistant hard coat — fewer cases of workers receiving uncoated glasses by default.

Applications

  • Client-facing trades: Electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers working in occupied buildings where appearance matters — the BK2's slim, fitted profile reads as professional rather than heavy industrial.
  • Active overhead work: The tighter-fitting BK2 frame reduces the nose-slide common with heavier frames during ladder climbing, overhead drilling, or any task requiring sustained forward-lean posture.
  • Workers sensitive to frame weight: Lighter polycarbonate slim frames cause less fatigue during full-shift wear compared to heavier wide-coverage frames — the BK2 is a comfort-first choice for workers with frame sensitivity.
  • Mixed indoor/outdoor roles (I/O Mirror): Dock workers, facilities managers, and inspection roles that alternate between interior and exterior environments throughout the day.
  • Light Blue for outdoor overcast: Landscapers, surveyors, and outdoor maintenance workers in high-latitude or consistently overcast climates where flat gray light is the norm — Light Blue reduces harshness without excessive darkening.

ANSI Z87.1 Compliance

The MCR BearKat BK2 carries ANSI/ISEA Z87.1+ High Impact certification — required for occupational eye protection under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133 (general industry) and OSHA 29 CFR 1926.102 (construction). The Z87.1+ high-velocity rating confirms the polycarbonate lens withstands a 1/4-inch steel ball at 150 fps without fracture.

Polycarbonate inherently blocks 99.9% of UVA/UVB radiation. Employers must conduct a hazard assessment per OSHA 1910.132(d) and provide ANSI Z87.1-compliant eye protection when flying particles, chemical splash, dust, or radiation hazards exist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the BK2 only have 3 tints when the BK1 has 11?

The BK2's narrower, slimmer frame is designed for a more fitted look and lighter weight — the trade-off is fewer tint variants. The lens area in the slimmer frame works best in the most commonly requested tints (Clear, Light Blue, I/O Mirror). If you need Gray, Amber, Silver Mirror, or Blue Mirror in the BearKat platform, the BearKat BK1 has all seven tints at the same $9.99 price.

Does the BK2 come in anti-fog?

No — all three BK2 variants (BK210, BK213, BK219) include Duramass scratch-resistant hard coat but no anti-fog treatment. For anti-fog in the BearKat frame, see the BearKat BK1 (BK110AF / BK110PF for Clear, BK112AF for Gray) or the BearKat BK3 (multiple tints with UV Anti-Fog).

Is the BK2 lighter than the BK1?

Yes — the BK2's slimmer frame profile uses less frame material than the BK1's classic wraparound, making it measurably lighter in the hand and on the face. Both are polycarbonate safety glasses in the 25–35 gram range typical of economy safety eyewear, but the BK2 is toward the lighter end of that range. Workers who experience temple or nose bridge fatigue from heavier frames during full-shift wear consistently report the BK2 as more comfortable for extended use.

Does the slim BK2 frame provide the same ANSI Z87.1+ impact protection as the BK1?

Yes. ANSI/ISEA Z87.1+ certification requires that the lens withstand high-velocity impact — a 1/4-inch steel ball at 150 fps — and both the BK1 and BK2 use the same grade of polycarbonate that meets this standard. The frame geometry (wider vs. slimmer) affects field of view and lateral coverage, but both frames meet the same impact certification. The BK2's slimmer profile provides slightly less peripheral coverage at the extreme lateral angles than the BK1, which is a comfort and coverage trade-off rather than an impact protection difference.

What does ANSI Z87.1+ mean on safety glasses?

ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 is the U.S. standard for occupational eye and face protection, covering impact resistance, optical clarity, and UV protection. The + suffix indicates high-velocity impact rating — tested with a 1/4-inch steel ball at 150 fps — the level required for most industrial and construction environments. All MCR Safety glasses in this collection carry the Z87.1+ high-impact marking.

How do I choose between Clear, Gray, and Amber lenses?

Clear lenses transmit nearly all visible light — correct for indoor work, low-light conditions, and any task where color accuracy matters. Gray/Smoke lenses cut brightness without distorting color — standard choice for outdoor work in direct sunlight. Amber/Yellow lenses enhance contrast in overcast, foggy, or low-light outdoor conditions — useful for detail visibility but not suitable for bright direct sun. I/O Mirror lenses shift between indoor and outdoor lighting conditions without changing glasses.

What is the difference between Duramass, MAX3, MAX6, and MAX36 coatings?

Standard — base polycarbonate, no coating. Duramass — MCR proprietary scratch-resistant hard coat. MAX3 — enhanced anti-scratch hard coat. MAX6 — anti-fog treatment rated 10× more effective than standard; for humid, hot, or temperature-transition environments. MAX36 — polarized + anti-fog + scratch-resistant; premium outdoor lens for glare reduction.

Can these be used over prescription glasses?

Standard safety glasses (non-OTG models) are not designed to fit over prescription frames. If you wear prescription glasses on the job, choose the Law OG1 OTG or Klondike OG2 OTG — both designed to fit over most standard prescription frames while meeting ANSI Z87.1+ requirements.

“Fits under a face shield with no gap at the sides”
As a QC inspector I wear a face shield over safety glasses all day. The BK2 slim profile is the only pair that sits flush under the shield without creating debris gaps at the sides.

“I/O Mirror adapts from office to bright loading dock”
I go from a conference room to a bright outdoor loading dock a dozen times a day. The BK2 I/O Mirror adjusts my vision faster than taking glasses on and off between environments.

“Light Blue cuts conveyor surface glare on the line”
The reflective conveyor belts in our assembly area create constant glare at eye level. BK2 in Light Blue was the fix - less squinting and measurably better inspection accuracy.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My New Favorites!
Not a Vine review. The Crews BearKat Safety Glasses have quickly become my absolute favorites. The Indoor/Outdoor Clear Mirror Lens is the perfect middle ground—it’s great for moving between the garage and the driveway without feeling like things are too dark inside or too bright once you step out.The polycarbonate build feels incredibly light on the face, and the wrap-around design gives excellent protection without that bulky "goggle" feel. I can wear these for hours while working on projects or out on the trails and almost forget I have them on.If you're looking for a comfortable, versatile pair of safety glasses that look good and hold up to daily use, these are the ones.

Great as sunglasses, as well
I ordered these glasses some years ago when I was still working (now retired). I had the clear lenses with pink temples. Those particular ones weren’t offered from Amazon at the time, but I can attest to how they held up. If you have to continually put them on/take them off day in day out, after months of wear, they may crack at the nose. However, I only had one pair ever do that. I was that pleased with them that I ordered two pair with the dark lenses for use as sunglasses. They were perfect, as I wear contacts. They are fairly inexpensive and I highly recommend them.

Great
They fit small, so if you have a wide head you may need a different pair. I like them and the tint helps conceal my eyes while I’m messed up at work

Great for kids outdoors
The small frame size are a great fit for my son at baseball. The flexible frame makes for a comfortable feel. The tinted lens lets him see when the sun is in his face. Keeps the dirt out of his eyes when catching.

Dandy product, smaller size AND they exceed ANSI Z87+ (high velocity impact) standard.
My wife is "petite" and has trouble finding frames to fit. Recently she mentioned wishing that she had some sun glasses (not all that essential in the Seattle, WA area). I learned years ago that you can get quality safety glasses in clear, tinted and even bifocal lenses for a fraction of the cost of ordinary sunglasses sold in stores. Although my wife is not involved all that often in activities where IMPACT RESISTANT lenses are vital, she did wind up in an E.R. for an eye injury when she was pruning shrubs and caught a sharp branch in the eyeball. Ouch! Totally avoidable....and costly. So safety glasses, especially those that either wrap around or have side shields are always a good idea working in the yard. The product picture shows Z87 on the lens near the side corner. The actual product however is marked Z87+ (which matches the manufacturer's written Product Description). That little plus sign (+) is important, meaning that the lenses meet or exceed the NEWER ANSI standard which includes higher velocity impact resistance.Want more info? google: T37 projectile 640 fps and learn how lenses are tested to earn that little plus sign.[Can you say "hit by a stone thrown by a nearby rotary lawnmower" or "hit with a shotgun pellet" or "shot in the eye with Ralphie's Red Rider BB gun"???]The manufacturer"s Product Description indicates: "Meets military MIL-PRF-31013 clause 3.5.1.1 for high velocity impact protection and exceeds ANSI Z87+". Glasses that meet/exceed ANSI Z87+ are all I wear on the shooting range. Why wouldn't you want protection that meets/exceeds the newer improved safety standard, particularly when it is often available for no increase in cost?? Why wouldn't you also buy that for a family member?

Nice fit and love the mirrored lens
Some reviews complained on being small and with that I knew these would be a good fit for me— a petite female. It fits really well around the face, full coverage and lovely look. 10/10I bought the clear version as well.I hope these hold up well, nice price.

Quality matches price
I work indoors at night time so I like the tinted safety glasses to help keep the fluorescent lights out of my eyes. These are cheap glasses who's quality match the price point. They normally only last me about 2 weeks before they get these weird streaks through the lenses that make it hard to see. But for $2-$3 a pair i find it worth the money.
