abatement APF 50 asbestos Elipse FFM1243 full face full facepiece GVS

The GVS Elipse FFM1243 is a NIOSH-approved full facepiece air-purifying respirator that delivers simultaneous eye, nose, and mouth protection through an integrated wide-vision lens β€” shipped with P100 replaceable filters included. At $150.00, the FFM1243 extends GVS's Elipse low-profile design philosophy into the full face class, providing an assigned protection factor (APF) of 50 under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 β€” five times the APF 10 of a half-face air-purifying respirator. One size. The FFM1243 uses the same Elipse filter system as the Elipse half-face line, giving access to the full range of Elipse replacement filter specifications. For the complete full face respirator selection, see the full face mask respirators collection.

Construction and Design

The FFM1243 uses GVS's Elipse platform geometry adapted for full face coverage β€” the low-profile filter positioning characteristic of the Elipse half-face is carried into the full face design, keeping the filter cartridges close to the facepiece rather than projecting outward at the cheeks or chin. The integrated polycarbonate lens provides wide-vision eye protection as an inherent part of the facepiece, eliminating the need for separate safety glasses or goggles in environments requiring both respiratory and eye protection β€” a single fitted device addresses both hazard pathways. The facepiece uses a soft silicone seal for comfort and fit conformance across a range of facial geometries; the one-size design relies on the silicone seal's flexibility to accommodate varied face profiles. The FFM1243 ships with P100 replacement filters installed, providing immediate P100 particulate protection (99.97% efficiency) from first use. The filter interface accepts the full Elipse filter family β€” including the SPR468 (OV/P100), SPR474 (OV/AG/P100), SPR483 (Multigas), SPR486 (P100/Multigas), and SPR658 (OV/P100) β€” allowing filter selection to be matched to the specific chemical and particulate hazards present without changing the facepiece.

Compliance and Ratings

The GVS Elipse FFM1243 is NIOSH-approved under 42 CFR Part 84 as a full facepiece air-purifying respirator. Under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 Table 1, tight-fitting full facepiece APRs carry an assigned protection factor of 50 β€” meaning the respirator can be used at contaminant concentrations up to 50 times the applicable OSHA permissible exposure limit (PEL), compared to APF 10 for half-face APRs. This APF difference is operationally significant: at concentrations between 10x and 50x the PEL, a half-face respirator does not provide sufficient protection while the FFM1243 does, subject to the filter selection matching the hazard class. The included P100 filters satisfy the OSHA P100 particulate filtration requirement for regulated carcinogens β€” lead (29 CFR 1910.1025, 1926.62), asbestos (29 CFR 1910.1001, 1926.1101), cadmium (29 CFR 1910.1027), arsenic (29 CFR 1910.1018), and MDA (29 CFR 1910.1050) β€” subject to the full compliance framework of those substance-specific standards. The integrated lens provides incidental eye protection; verify whether the lens meets ANSI Z87.1 impact protection requirements for the specific eye hazard environment before substituting it for dedicated eye protection required by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133. Quantitative or qualitative fit testing is required before any worker deploys the FFM1243 under OSHA 1910.134, and a written respiratory protection program, medical evaluation, and hazard assessment are mandatory prerequisites.

Performance Assessment

The FFM1243's primary performance advantage over the Elipse half-face respirators is the APF upgrade from 10 to 50 and the elimination of the separate eye protection requirement in environments that require both. In lead abatement, asbestos remediation, and other regulated carcinogen environments where airborne concentrations may approach or exceed 10x the PEL during peak disturbance activities β€” needle-gun descaling, abrasive blasting, power tool disturbance of ACM β€” the full face respirator provides the protection level the half-face cannot. The integrated eye protection eliminates the seal break between safety glasses and a half-face respirator that can allow contaminated particles to contact the mucous membranes of the eye β€” a relevant exposure pathway for fine particulate carcinogens and chemical splash environments. The Elipse filter compatibility means workers transitioning from the Elipse half-face to the FFM1243 can use the same filter SKUs, simplifying inventory management for programs maintaining both facepiece types. The one-size-fits-all design reduces SKU complexity compared to respirators offered in multiple sizes, though it requires that each worker's fit test confirm adequate seal with the one-size facepiece. At $150.00, the FFM1243 is priced for individual worker assignment in safety programs where full face protection is required, rather than shared-use inventory.

Strengths

  • APF 50 β€” full facepiece assigned protection factor provides five times the protection ceiling of a half-face APR; required for contaminant concentrations between 10x and 50x the OSHA PEL
  • Integrated eye protection β€” wide-vision lens eliminates separate goggles or safety glasses requirement; single facepiece addresses both respiratory and ocular exposure pathways
  • P100 filters included β€” ships ready for immediate use in P100-required particulate environments; no separate filter purchase required for initial deployment
  • Elipse filter compatibility β€” accepts full range of Elipse replacement filters (SPR468, SPR474, SPR483, SPR486, SPR658); filter selection matched to hazard class without facepiece change
  • Low-profile Elipse geometry β€” filter positioning keeps bulk minimal for a full face respirator; reduced interference with over-head protective equipment compared to traditional full face designs
  • In stock β€” immediate availability

Limitations

Recommended Use Cases

The GVS Elipse FFM1243 is the correct specification for workers requiring OSHA APF 50 full facepiece protection or integrated eye-and-respiratory coverage: lead abatement and renovation on pre-1978 structures where airborne lead concentrations during active disturbance may exceed APF 10 half-face limits; asbestos-containing material remediation where ocular exposure to airborne fibers and the concentration ceiling require full face protection; cadmium, arsenic, or MDA environments with exposure levels above the half-face respirator's practical protection limit; chemical splash environments where eye protection and respiratory protection must be integrated to prevent simultaneous ocular and inhalation exposure; and confined space entry where the low-profile form factor and full face seal reduce exposure risk in limited-clearance environments. Workers in environments where APF 10 (half-face) is sufficient and no integrated eye protection is required can achieve lower cost and weight with the Elipse half-face and appropriate replacement filter β€” the SPR468 (OV/P100), SPR474 (OV/AG/P100), or SPR486 (P100/Multigas) depending on the chemical hazard profile. For the complete full face respirator selection, see the full face mask respirators collection.

Verdict

The GVS Elipse FFM1243 delivers NIOSH-approved full facepiece protection β€” APF 50, integrated wide-vision eye coverage, and P100 filters included β€” in GVS's low-profile Elipse design at $150.00. It is the correct specification when APF 50 is required by exposure levels, when integrated eye and respiratory protection is operationally necessary, or when the regulatory environment mandates full facepiece respirator use. Accepts the full Elipse filter family for chemical hazard upgrades. One size β€” fit testing required. In stock. High end respirator
As someone with experience using respirators in both industrial and home settings, I was looking for a full-face option that offered real protection, a comfortable fit, and reliable build quality. The GVS Elipse Full Face Respirator delivers on all fronts. For clarity, I use respirators primarily for dust, solvents, and other situations where I need to protect my lungs/eyes from vapors and splashes. Resin and pool chemicals come to mind. I once got muriatic acid in my eye cleaning my pool - and it was $750 at the ER just to check my eye out. Safety equipment and prevention is often cheaper than "repair." But I digress. The materials are clearly high-endβ€”the silicone face seal is soft but secure, and the visor offers excellent clarity without distortion or fogging. Despite being a full-face mask, it’s surprisingly lightweight and low-profile, which makes it compatible with helmets and hearing protection. The adjustable strap system is well-designed and holds the mask firmly in place without sliding, even during active use.It fits my larger head very well, sealing properly and staying comfortable through extended wear. The field of view is wide, which is critical during detailed or high-risk tasks. My only gripe is that the plastic guards over the filters can pop off if bumped, which might be frustrating in very tight spaces. On the upside, those guards help extend the life of the filters by shielding them from direct debris, so I do keep them on.Overall, this is a top-tier piece of PPE. It’s ideal for tasks involving dust, spray paint, or woodworkingβ€”any environment where both respiratory and eye protection matter. I’d definitely get it again.

Quality product hard to clean
Comfortable and breathable. We use these for blowing dust off of equipment and don’t have a problem with fogging up. The only issue is there are several little parts that can be hard to take apart and clean.

Compact
*update*I have to knock another star off. These Elipse filters are just too restrictive for anything mildy strenuous.Maybe the compact size has some advantage somewhere but these filters are brutal. This looks to be the most compact full face respirator on the market. However it's kind of a double edge sword. I can wear a hat or helmet over the respirator easily but on the flip side it leaves a gap right at my forehead exposed when I used it with a hazmat suit hood. Mask stayed sealed but ended up with dust on my skin. Also this is not a specific criticism for this respirator but GVS Elipse filters as a whole. They seem to clog up faster than the bigger 3M competitor in extreme situations. After using this for a few days, for hours between breaks, I think I would prefer more weight and less restrictive filters.I can fit into most M or L masks and this one sealed around my face just fine. Great visibility no fogging issues. It comes apart easily for cleaning.I don't like that the clear visor is not replaceable like the 3M full face masks.

Well-designed full facemask with a slim profile, fits and seals well even for larger heads.
**Background:** I have numerous home and boat projects that require me to wear a facemask with a filter. I trust the GVS brand, having used their half mask in the past, which is why I ordered this one. When I was younger, I worked in a pharmaceutical formulation factory where I received formal training on the proper fitting and use of such masks.**Build Quality:** The materials are excellent, and the rubber quality is high. I trust that the filter meets the rating standards.**Function:** It’s a one-size-fits-all mask, and I have a larger head, so I was a bit concerned. However, it fits and seals very well and is comfortable for a full face mask. This is a genuine full facemask, and I believe it provides a decent field of view while still fully protecting my eyes. I think if my head were any larger, it might pose a fit issue. My head circumference is 23.5 inches. The straps in the back cradle your head so they don’t slide around, maintaining your seal. Adjusting the straps is simple and quick, yet they hold their position once adjusted. The plastic guards over the filters are annoying because they pop off if you rub against them (which might be an issue in an extremely tight space like a small attic or tight crawl space), but they also extend the life of the filters. If material is flying directly into your face and the filters, the plastic guards will deflect that material, so your filter won't get clogged as quickly.

Works okay but needs a bigger size
A bit uncomfortable after several hours of wear but it does work very good. Only complaint is that it doesn't have slightly bigger size as after several hours of wear my forehead starts to have a little pain from the pressure of the top of the mask. And you can use the older big gen 1 filters on this mask and they work flawlessly.

Soft, good fit and full face protection
I was in a dusty basement utility room while we were working on pipes, drilling in struts, removing old nails and strapping when, even wearing safety glasses (the non-gasket kind to be fair) and a half face respirator, I got some specks of crap in my eye. After a while of trying to flush it out, and the irritation afterwards, I decided I needed a full face respirator. Enter this guy.I have a pretty big head (7 3/4 in fitted hat) and so this thing looks kind of small on my face while wearing it. That isn't to say it doesn't seal well or fully protect me. It does. I just wish maybe it was a little bigger overall... but I get doing that in order to ensure it fits well it most people and their hair. Still, it's super comfortable to wear. I think the 3m unit I have has slightly softer materials but they are both good/great.I've used it whenever I'm working on dusty things overhead and it's been great. If I had to go in a murky looking crawlspace, I'd happily take this unit and a tyvek suit.Oh and visibility is great. Pretty damn clear visor too. Recommend this unit.

Will Not Work If You Need To Wear Glasses, Else Good Product
Although this mask is marketed as a respirator, it is insufficient for applications such as auto body painting, where paint fumes can be lethal. It also does not effectively prevent the transmission of viruses, such as COVID, as these viruses produce particles smaller than the mask's 0.3 micron filter capability. However, it does perform better than many cheaper masks in completely eliminating odors when working with household-type spray paints. Additionally, it effectively filters out sawdust and dust from various operations. The mask is as comfortable to wear as other filters of this type. It covers the entire face while allowing for clear visibility and minimal fogging. A significant drawback is that it is almost impossible to wear while using glasses. The strap system functions well, keeping the mask securely in place even during head movements. Its profile is small enough to avoid hindrance in tight spaces or interference with regular work activities. However, breathing can be more challenging when wearing this mask, as is often the case with effective filtering systems. It is also possible to wear ear muff-type hearing protection with this mask. The filter is made from stiffer silicone and clear plastic, providing a good seal, is easy to clean, and is relatively comfortable. The straps are made of a stretchable, web-like material that seems durable, adjusts well, and holds the mask securely.Overall, this is a good quality filtering mask that effectively filters out odors from ordinary paints and sprays. I mainly use it in my well-ventilated home workshop or outdoors, where it works very well. I purchased it for a spray painting project in an outdoor storage shed, and it arrived the next day in good condition. However, I would hesitate to recommend this mask for life-threatening fumes in confined spaces, such as when spray painting cars indoors. Although I have asthma and lung issues, I have had no problems using this mask. Since I need to wear glasses, I would not get this particular model again, but if I did not need glasses, I would definitely consider getting it for my uses.

Comfortable, Crystal Clear, and Well-Sealed Full-Face Respirator.
This P100 respirator delivers excellent protection with thoughtful design throughout. The fit is tight and secure with no noticeable air leakage, yet it’s surprisingly comfortable even during longer use. The adjustable backstrap helps dial in the fit perfectly, and the soft silicone frame doesn’t cause any pressure points. Unlike others I’ve used, this one doesn’t fog up, which is a huge plus when working in warm or humid conditions. The clear visor provides an unobstructed view and feels like it’s made from high-quality materials. It also comes with a protective mesh storage bag, which is a nice touch to help prevent scratches or damage. I also appreciate the compatibility with universal P100 filters. For the overall quality, clarity, comfort, and performance, the price feels very fair. This is a professional-level mask that delivers exactly what you’d expect from something in this tier. Highly recommended.
