Gerson XP100 NIOSH P100 Pancake Filter with OV/AG Nuisance Relief β€” 1 Pair

The Gerson XP100 is a compact pancake-style NIOSH P100 particulate filter with nuisance-level organic vapor and acid gas relief, sold as a 1 pair (2 filters) for use with Gerson half-face respirators. The pancake (flat disc) form factor keeps the filter profile low and close to the facepiece, improving field of view and reducing the chance of contact with surrounding surfaces during work. P100 certifies 99.97% minimum filtration efficiency against all solid and oil-based particulate aerosols β€” the highest particulate efficiency NIOSH assigns to APR filters, and fully oil-proof (P-series). The nuisance-level OV/AG activated carbon component reduces odor discomfort from trace background organic vapors and acid gases but is not a NIOSH-approved gas/vapor cartridge rating β€” for full OV or acid gas compliance protection, a combination cartridge is required. Gerson states the XP100 is compatible with all Gerson facepieces. Browse all respirator filters and cartridges at WC Safety.

Protection Profile

Hazard Class XP100 Status Notes
Non-oil solid particulates (dust, fume, fibers) Approved β€” P100 (99.97% min efficiency) Silica, lead, metal fume, welding fume, asbestos, mold, woodworking dust
Oil-based aerosols (cutting fluids, oil mist) Approved β€” P-series (oil-proof, no time limit) P100 is fully oil-proof with no 8-hour restriction unlike R-series
Organic vapors β€” compliance level Not approved β€” nuisance level only For full OV protection, add an OV cartridge or use a combination cartridge respirator
Acid gases β€” compliance level Not approved β€” nuisance level only Nuisance relief reduces odor discomfort only β€” does not satisfy OSHA compliance requirements for AG hazards

The XP100 provides particulate protection up to the APF of the facepiece (APF 10 for a half-mask). For concentrations above 10x PEL, a full-face respirator (APF 50) or PAPR is required. Always consult the SDS and your industrial hygienist to confirm respirator selection.

Key Features

Compact Pancake Filter Design The flat pancake form factor keeps filter bulk close to the facepiece and minimizes lateral protrusion. This reduces the chance of contact damage to the filter in tight work areas, improves downward field of view compared to cylindrical cartridges, and provides better clearance when wearing certain safety glasses or face shields alongside the half-face respirator. The low-profile design is particularly valued in confined spaces and areas with limited clearance.
P100 β€” 99.97% Efficiency, Oil-Proof P100 is NIOSH's highest particulate efficiency rating β€” 99.97% minimum filtration efficiency for all solid and liquid aerosols, oil-proof with no time restriction. This exceeds N95 (95%, non-oil) and P95 (95%, oil-proof) in both efficiency and applies across a broader range of particulate types. For lead abatement, beryllium work, asbestos removal, silica in high-exposure environments, and oil mist applications, P100 is the appropriate selection.
Nuisance OV/AG Activated Carbon Activated carbon integrated into the XP100 filter body reduces sensory discomfort from low-level background organic vapors and acid gas odors common in grinding, welding, and light industrial environments. This is comfort-level relief β€” not an NIOSH gas/vapor approval β€” intended to reduce the "smell-through" that workers experience with pure particulate-only filters in environments with incidental background vapors.
Universal Gerson Facepiece Compatibility Gerson states the XP100 is compatible with all Gerson half-face facepieces, including the Gerson half-mask respirator line. This cross-compatibility simplifies purchasing for operations running multiple Gerson facepiece models β€” one filter SKU covers the full facepiece range rather than requiring model-specific filter inventory.

When to Use P100 vs. P95 vs. N95

Rating Efficiency Oil Aerosols Best For
P100 (XP100 β€” this product) 99.97% Yes β€” unlimited Lead, beryllium, asbestos, silica (high exposure), oil mist, any P100-required substance
P95 95% Yes β€” unlimited General grinding, polishing, machining with oil mist β€” lower-cost option when P100 is not required
N95 95% No Non-oil dust environments β€” silica at lower concentrations, wood dust, construction dust

When in doubt between P95 and P100, choose P100 β€” the higher efficiency provides greater protection margin and is required by specific OSHA substance standards (lead, beryllium, asbestos). Check the substance-specific standard for your application. Browse the full respirator filters and cartridges catalog for alternatives.

Common Applications

Frequently Asked Questions

What Gerson facepieces are compatible with the XP100?
Gerson states the XP100 is compatible with all Gerson half-face facepieces. This includes the full range of Gerson half-mask respirators available at WC Safety. Always confirm the specific facepiece model against Gerson's published compatibility data before deploying in a compliance respiratory protection program, as facepiece and filter system compatibility must be confirmed by the manufacturer under OSHA 1910.134.
Is P100 required for lead work, or is N95 sufficient?
OSHA's general industry lead standard (29 CFR 1910.1025) requires a half-mask APR with a P100 filter (or equivalent) when lead air concentrations are at or above the action level (50 Β΅g/mΒ³ TWA) but below 500 Β΅g/mΒ³. Above 500 Β΅g/mΒ³, a full-face APR or PAPR is required. The XP100's P100 rating meets this requirement. N95 is insufficient for lead under the OSHA lead standard β€” the standard specifically requires a high-efficiency filter. Confirm current concentrations via air monitoring and document the selection in your respiratory protection program per 1910.134.
Does the nuisance OV/AG relief protect against spray paint fumes?
No. Nuisance-level vapor relief reduces odor discomfort from trace background vapors only β€” it does not provide compliance protection against organic vapor concentrations at or approaching OSHA PELs. Spray painting generates OV concentrations that require a full NIOSH-approved OV cartridge rating. For painting applications, use a half-face or full-face respirator with a dedicated OV/P100 combination cartridge. The XP100 is appropriate for particulate-dominant environments where incidental background odors (not OV compliance hazards) are the only vapor-related concern. See the full respirator filters and cartridges range for OV-rated options.
How often should XP100 filters be replaced?
Replace XP100 filters when breathing resistance increases noticeably, when they are physically damaged, or when wetted by liquid. There is no time-based service life for particulate filters under normal dry conditions. In oil mist or wet particulate environments, loading may occur more rapidly β€” monitor breathing resistance and replace based on worker feedback and your documented change-out schedule. OSHA 1910.134 requires a written respiratory protection program that includes filter replacement procedures. Browse respirator filters and cartridges for replacement ordering.
What is the difference between a pancake filter and a cylindrical cartridge?
A pancake filter (like the XP100) is a flat, low-profile disc that mounts flush against the facepiece exhalation valve area. A cylindrical cartridge extends outward from the facepiece face. The pancake design reduces lateral protrusion, improves downward sightlines, and provides better clearance for safety glasses and face shields. Cylindrical combination cartridges (OV/P100, multi-gas) integrate both gas/vapor media and particulate filter in the same body and are necessary when full gas/vapor compliance protection is required β€” pancake filters alone cannot provide full OV or acid gas compliance. The XP100 is suited for environments where P100 particulate protection (with nuisance vapor comfort) is the primary requirement and no compliance-level gas protection is needed. See the half-mask respirator collection for compatible facepieces.
Is the XP100 approved for asbestos abatement?
OSHA's asbestos standards (29 CFR 1910.1001 general industry; 29 CFR 1926.1101 construction) require at minimum a half-mask APR with a P100 filter for exposures above the action level (0.1 f/cc TWA) up to 1 f/cc. The XP100 P100 rating meets the filter efficiency requirement. Above 1 f/cc TWA or for certain Class I and II abatement work, a full-face APR or PAPR is required per the specific task table in 1926.1101. Confirm the applicable exposure level and task classification before selecting the XP100 for asbestos work, and document the selection in your written respiratory protection program.
How many filters come in a pack?
Each purchase includes 1 pair β€” 2 XP100 filter discs, which fully equip one half-face respirator (one filter per facepiece port). Always replace both filters simultaneously and track usage in your respiratory protection program. Browse the full respirator filters and cartridges catalog for additional filter options and OV/combination cartridges when full vapor compliance protection is required.

Great product
We recently used these respirator filters during the demolition of an older building, and they performed exceptionally well under tough conditions. The environment included heavy dust, debris, and likely contaminants from aged materials, yet the filters provided reliable protection throughout the process.Breathing remained manageable even during extended use, and the filters did a great job minimizing exposure to fine particles. There was a noticeable difference in air quality while wearing the mask compared to brief moments without it. The seal stayed secure, and the filters did not feel clogged or overly restrictive, even after hours of work.Another standout feature was how well they handled odor and airborne irritantsβ€”something especially important in older structures where unknown materials may be present. Paired with proper safety gear, these filters gave us confidence to work efficiently and safely.Overall, we highly recommend these filters for anyone doing demolition, renovation, or work in older buildings where air quality is a concern. They proved durable, effective, and essential for the job.

The right filter for welding
These filter I bought for respirator use in a welding shop. They were well built and ease to install. The are thin discs so they are light weight and allows you use comfortable under a welding hood because other seem to bulky. Over all a good value because its a quality products that will save you ling problems in the future.
