First Alert AF400 EZ Fire Spray 2-Pack — 18 oz Aerosol Fire Extinguisher Spray Overview

The First Alert AF400 EZ Fire Spray 2-Pack gives you two 18 oz aerosol fire-extinguisher cans for staging at the most common ignition points in a home — the stovetop, the garage, the RV, and the laundry room. It is built for speed and simplicity: there is no pin to pull and no pressure gauge to read. You point the nozzle, press the trigger, and a wide spray of biodegradable suppressant knocks down small flames, then wipes away with a damp cloth.

First Alert designs the AF400 EZ Fire Spray for the fires homeowners actually face — paper and fabric, cooking oil and grease, and energized electrical equipment such as cords and small appliances. Because it discharges like a spray can rather than a blasting dry-chemical jet, it is far easier for an untrained family member to aim accurately under pressure, and it spreads suppressant over a wider area than a pinpoint cone.

Understand what this product is and is not. It is a single-use, disposable aerosol — it is not rechargeable, and once discharged the can is replaced. It is best used as a grab-and-go first response and a companion to a permanently mounted, code-rated cylinder. For a workshop, mechanical room, or any location governed by NFPA 10, pair it with a traditional ABC dry chemical extinguisher and learn the differences in our fire extinguisher classes explained guide. Browse the full range of fire extinguishers to round out your home and vehicle coverage, and see how aerosol sprays stack up against cylinders in our best fire extinguishers 2026 roundup.

The two-can format is the practical reason to buy this over a single spray: redundancy and placement. Keep one within arm's reach of the range and a second near your vehicle or shop bench. For complete household readiness, add a mounted unit from our rechargeable extinguishers selection and a fire escape ladder for upper floors. WC Safety lists the AF400 as an Amazon affiliate product; checkout and shipping are completed through Amazon.

What It Is Built For

Use case Fit Buyer guidance
Stovetop grease or cooking-oil flare-up Strong fit Aim at the base, never lift a burning pan; cut the heat. For frequent kitchen risk also stage a dedicated cylinder — see kitchen K class extinguishers.
Small electrical fire (cord, outlet, small appliance) Good fit First Alert rates the AF400 for electrical equipment; de-energize the source if you safely can, then spray.
Paper, fabric, trash or wastebasket fire Strong fit Wide spray pattern covers Class A material quickly; follow with a damp-cloth wipe of residue.
Garage, RV, boat or laundry-room first response Good fit Compact 18 oz can stows in tight spots; stage the second can here. Add a mounted ABC dry chemical extinguisher for larger loads.
Workshop, mechanical room or any NFPA 10-governed space Supplement only Not a code-rated replacement; install a permanently mounted cylinder and use the spray as a grab-and-go backup.
Large or spreading fire Not suitable Evacuate and call 911. A single-use 18 oz aerosol is for incipient fires only.

Match the extinguisher to the fire class: A (ordinary combustibles), B (flammable liquids), C (energized electrical), K (cooking oils and fats). A multipurpose ABC dry-chemical extinguisher covers A, B and C. Mount it where it is accessible, check the pressure gauge monthly, and service or replace it per NFPA 10. An extinguisher is for small, incipient fires only — if the fire grows or the room fills with smoke, evacuate and call 911. Browse fire extinguishers.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Two 18 oz cans let you stage protection at two locations (kitchen plus garage/RV/shop)
  • Point-and-spray operation — no pin to pull, no gauge to read, easy for any household member
  • Wide discharge pattern covers more area than a pinpoint dry-chemical cone
  • First Alert rates it for paper/fabric, cooking oil and grease, and electrical equipment
  • Biodegradable suppressant wipes away with a damp cloth — far less cleanup than dry chemical
  • Compact aerosol form factor fits tight cabinet, vehicle, and boat spaces
Cons
  • Single-use and disposable — not rechargeable; replace after any discharge
  • Aerosol spray, not a UL-classified pressurized cylinder, so it is a supplement, not a code-rated unit
  • 18 oz capacity is for small, incipient fires only — not for large or spreading fires
  • No pressure gauge means you should track replacement dates manually

How It Compares

The AF400 EZ Fire Spray belongs to First Alert's aerosol-spray line, which sits alongside the brand's traditional pressurized cylinders. Choose based on whether you want a grab-and-go spray or a permanently mounted, rechargeable unit.

Model Format Capacity Rechargeable Best for
AF400 EZ Fire Spray 2-Pack Aerosol spray 18 oz x2 No (single-use) Fast first response staged in kitchen + garage/RV
AF400 EZ Fire Spray (single) Aerosol spray 18 oz No (single-use) One-location grab-and-go backup
First Alert HOME2PRO (rechargeable) Pressurized cylinder Rechargeable 2-A:10-B:C Yes Mounted primary home/garage protection
First Alert FE1A10GR195 HOME1 Pressurized cylinder Rechargeable 1-A:10-B:C Yes Lighter mounted home unit

For most homes the smart setup is both: a mounted cylinder from our rechargeable extinguishers as the primary unit and the AF400 2-pack as quick-grab backups. See full picks in best fire extinguisher for home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the First Alert AF400 EZ Fire Spray 2-Pack a real fire extinguisher or just a spray can?

It is an aerosol fire-extinguishing spray, not a pressurized dry-chemical cylinder. You operate it like a spray can — point the nozzle and discharge a wide stream of suppressant. First Alert designs it for small, incipient home fires as a fast first response, and the 2-pack lets you stage one can in two locations. For a code-rated primary unit, pair it with an item from our ABC dry chemical extinguishers.

What kinds of fires is the AF400 rated for?

First Alert markets the AF400 EZ Fire Spray for the most common home fire sources: paper and fabric, cooking oil and grease, and electrical equipment such as cords and small appliances. We do not publish a specific UL letter rating beyond what First Alert states. To understand A/B/C fire classes and how aerosol sprays compare to cylinders, read our fire extinguisher classes explained guide.

Is the AF400 EZ Fire Spray rechargeable?

No. It is a single-use, disposable aerosol — once a can is discharged you replace it rather than refill it. If you want a refillable unit you can service and re-pressurize, choose a mounted cylinder from our rechargeable extinguishers collection instead.

How much suppressant is in each can?

Each can holds 18 oz of aerosol suppressant, and the 2-pack includes two cans. This capacity is intended for small, early-stage fires only — not for large or spreading fires. For higher-volume protection in a garage or shop, mount a larger cylinder from our fire extinguishers range.

Why buy the 2-pack instead of a single can?

The 2-pack is about placement and redundancy. Stage one can within arm's reach of the stovetop and the second near your vehicle, RV, boat, or laundry area, so a suppressant is always close to the most likely ignition points. Browse the full fire extinguishers collection to round out coverage with a mounted unit.

Can I use the AF400 on a stovetop grease fire?

Yes — First Alert rates it for cooking oil and grease, and the wide spray pattern helps you cover a flare-up quickly. Aim at the base of the flames, never lift or move a burning pan, and turn off the heat. If your kitchen carries frequent grease risk, also stage a dedicated cylinder from our kitchen K class extinguishers collection.

Is it safe to use on an electrical fire?

First Alert lists electrical equipment among the AF400's intended uses, so it can be sprayed on small electrical fires such as cords and appliances. De-energize the source if you can safely reach the switch or breaker first. For a permanently mounted backup with a C rating, see our ABC dry chemical extinguishers.

Does the AF400 need to be mounted on a wall?

No bracket is required — it is a portable aerosol can you stage on a shelf, in a cabinet, or in a vehicle. If you prefer a wall-mounted primary unit with a bracket, look at our rechargeable extinguishers, and protect upper floors with a fire escape ladder.

How is the AF400 different from First Alert's rechargeable HOME extinguishers?

The AF400 is a single-use aerosol spray for quick first response, while the HOME2PRO and HOME1 are rechargeable pressurized cylinders rated 2-A:10-B:C and 1-A:10-B:C respectively for sustained, code-oriented protection. Many homeowners use both — a mounted cylinder as the primary and the AF400 2-pack as grab-and-go backups. Compare picks in best fire extinguisher for home.

Does this product meet NFPA 10 requirements?

An 18 oz single-use aerosol is a supplement, not a code-rated replacement. Where NFPA 10 guidance applies — workshops, mechanical rooms, commercial spaces — install a permanently mounted, serviceable cylinder and treat the AF400 as a quick-grab backup. Our fire extinguisher classes explained guide covers how ratings and placement work.

How hard is the AF400 to use in an emergency?

It is built for simplicity: there is no pin to pull and no gauge to read. You point the nozzle and press the trigger, which makes it easy for any household member to aim under stress. For larger fires you still want the leverage of a mounted cylinder from our fire extinguishers collection, but the spray is the fastest tool to reach for first.

How do I dispose of and replace a used can, and is it sold through Amazon?

Because the AF400 is single-use, replace any can after it has been discharged or once it reaches its expiration; follow the can's disposal instructions for aerosols. WC Safety lists this product as an Amazon affiliate item, so purchasing and shipping are handled through Amazon. To plan a complete kit, see the best fire extinguishers 2026 roundup and add a mounted unit from our rechargeable extinguishers.

Very handy to have for fire safety. Quality is good, had a small in house fire started from a candle that broke some glass. Was easy to use this spray and put out fire quickly. Saved from any major damage and ease of use was a definite plus.

Well, I got to use it tonight and I’m glad I had it. I came home tonight after work and my wife had gone upstairs to sit with one of our cats. She’d left a candle burning on the mantle in the living room as she often does. It’s one of those bowl candles with 3 wicks. I was sitting on the sofa with another of our cats (yep, we have a lot of cats) and I looked over and the whole bowl was on fire with flames literally 8-10 inches high! I ran to the kitchen and grabbed one of these fire extinguisher cans and pulled the top off. Went over to the fire and shot the extinguisher for about 3 seconds which put it out. I noticed that the wax was super hot and you could feel the heat a good foot and a half away. I moved the candle to the deck outside to cool down. I went back and noticed a small white puddle on the mantle and some stuff an inch or two up the wall which I thought was wax but turned out to be the fire extinguisher fluid. I got a kitchen towel and wiped everything off and there was no damage or any mark left behind, as if nothing had happened!! You always wonder what if…if I hadn’t been in the room…if I hadn’t had the extinguisher to hand…well, who knows. Anyway, the extinguisher was easy to use, super effective, and yes, easy to clean off. A perfect product test and it passed with flying colors!!

I purchased this 2 pack of small fire extinguishers to have on hand in case a fire ever breaks out at my home. While I have smoke detectors, a regular fire extinguisher and a fire blanket, I wanted something that would be super simple to grab up and use without even having to think twice about how it works. Having a fire extinguisher in a can seems to meet that need. With a larger extinguisher, I would have to get it from a different place, get it out of the bracket, and remember how to use it properly. While that should not be a problem, combine it with adrenaline and stress if there is a fire, plus vision problems, it is not the most reassuring feeling. These First Alert EZ Fire Spray cans do away with much of those concerns, as the cans' aerosol spray is good for all types of fires - flammable liquids, wood and paper, and electrical fires, so you do not have to think about whether what is burning matches what the extinguisher will work on. They can be easily stored in the kitchen (or around the house) as they are small, and will also remained pressurized for 3 years. The expiration date on the cans I received were just under 3 years, so were newly made at the time Amazon delivered them. First Alert states on their own website that the cans do remain pressurized beyond 3 years, but there is no way to know when the pressure has fallen too low for the aerosol to spray properly, as a pressure valve cannot be installed on a can. It is a good purchase to have, and I hope I never have to use it .

Great sale price and easy to use like a can of hair spray. Love the compact size and that it's easier to keep around as it's not bulky like the other old-school kind. I also really liked that it's made in the USA!

I ordered two sets of these fire extinguishers, one for each of our cars and two for the house. They're compact and fit well in the trunk. Hopefully we'll never need to use them. But it's good to know they're there if needed. I do have an issue with the expiration dates on the canisters, one set needs to be replaced September of '28 and the other August of '29. I would have been happier if both the expiration dates were 2029. Conversely if they both had expiration dates of 2028 I wouldn't have been any the wiser. Other than that, good item to have on hand. I rate the concept five stars.

Don't store it in your car if temps are less than 0C (32F)
Haven't tried it yet but we aware that the bottles can be stored only between 0C and 40C. If you live in Canada, you won't be able to store it in your car in winter.

Quick, Compact, and Surprisingly Effective – A Must-Have for Home Safety
I bought the First Alert EZ Fire Spray after reading about its easy-to-use design, and I’m really glad I did. It’s compact enough to keep in my kitchen cabinet or garage without taking up much space, yet powerful enough that I feel confident it could handle small fires if they ever happen.

Fresh Amazon stock
I originally bought this product a few years ago an they have now expired as per the date printed on the can. I recently purchased a new one from the "orange box store" and I was hesitant to purchase this item from amazon due the fact that it expires. I was worried that I would get some old stock. Anyway I decided to order one and I am happy to say that it is fresh stock as the expire date is 11/16/2017.
