Why choose a full brim over a cap style?

For foundry, hot-metal and similar work, choose a hat rated for that environment.
Is the sweatband washable?
Yes — the foam-backed sweatband is removable, breathable and washable, and replaceable when it wears out. On a non-vented hat, which runs a little warmer, a launderable sweatband earns its keep: it manages the extra sweat and keeps the hat hygienic over a long outdoor shift instead of the whole hat becoming uncomfortable. Rinse it out regularly and swap it when it is past its best.
Can I attach ear protection and a face shield?
Yes. The 8969 has dedicated locations for ear protection, headlamp straps, lanyards, face shields and chin straps, so you can build a full head-protection setup on it. Match accessories to the mounting points they are designed for; forcing off-system parts can compromise both fit and the accessory. On a full brim, plan the face-shield mounting around the all-round brim, which sits differently from a cap style.
When should the hard hat be replaced?
Retire it immediately after any impact, on any crack, gouge or brittleness in the shell, on suspension damage, and by the service life dated inside the shell. On a Class E hat there is an extra rule: never drill, paint or modify it, because anything that breaches the solid shell can void the electrical rating even if the hat still looks intact. Inspect it before each use and check the molded date stamp so you are not relying on a shell past its life.
