ANSI Z87.1 Bifocal Frameless Polarized Scratch-Resistant

The Crossfire ES4 is a frameless safety glass rated ANSI Z87.1+ for impact protection, available in Clear, Smoke, Silver Mirror, Brown Mirror, Red Mirror, Clear +2.0 Bifocal, Clear +2.5 Bifocal, Bronze +2.5 Bifocal, and Polarized Silver Mirror lenses at $9.79–$30.99. The frameless one-piece lens design provides an unobstructed field of view alongside ANSI-compliant protection for construction, manufacturing, and industrial work.

Construction and Materials

The ES4 features a single wraparound polycarbonate lens without a front frame surround, providing maximum peripheral field of view. Flexible temple arms with rubber tips mount directly to the lens at pivot points. The frameless design reduces overall weight compared to framed alternatives. Bifocal variants integrate magnification (+2.0 and +2.5 diopter) into the lower lens section for prescription eyeglass wearers with presbyopia. The Polarized Silver Mirror variant provides glare reduction for outdoor high-reflectivity surface conditions at $30.99.

Compliance

ANSI Z87.1+ rated for high-velocity and high-mass impact across all standard lens variants. The bifocal and polarized variants carry the same ANSI Z87.1+ certification. 99.9% UV protection.

Performance Assessment

The frameless design provides the broadest peripheral field of view available in a standard safety glass configuration, which is particularly relevant for workers in tight work spaces or applications where peripheral awareness is safety-critical. The elimination of frame elements also makes the ES4 lighter than comparable framed glasses.

The bifocal integration at $10.39–$11.79 provides a cost-effective alternative to prescription safety glasses for workers requiring magnification for plan reading, label identification, and near-detail work. The Polarized Silver Mirror at $30.99 serves outdoor workers with high-reflectivity surface glare as a premium option within the frameless form factor.

Strengths

  • Frameless lens design provides maximum peripheral field of view — no frame obstruction in peripheral vision zones
  • Bifocal variants available at $10.39–$11.79, providing near-vision magnification without prescription safety glasses cost
  • Polarized option available within the frameless format for outdoor glare reduction
  • ANSI Z87.1+ certification across all variants
  • Budget price at $9.79–$11.79 for non-polarized variants

Limitations

  • No anti-fog treatment available on any ES4 variant — not suited to high-humidity or fogging-prone environments
  • Frameless mounting at temple pivot points may reduce impact resilience at lens edges compared to full-frame mounting under extreme contact conditions

Recommended Use Cases

Construction, manufacturing, utilities, and general industrial applications where frameless field-of-view breadth is valued. Bifocal variants suit workers with presbyopia who read plans, labels, or measurements during work requiring eye protection. Polarized Smoke is appropriate for outdoor workers on high-reflectivity sites. Not recommended for high-humidity fog-prone environments without anti-fog protection.

Verdict

The Crossfire ES4 is a solid frameless safety glass offering a broad variant range including bifocal options at a competitive price. Workers needing anti-fog protection should consider models from DEWALT, UVEX, or Bollé. Workers requiring bifocal magnification in a framed format should compare the DEWALT Reinforcer Rx-Bifocal at comparable pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the frameless design provide the same impact protection as framed safety glasses?
Yes. The ANSI Z87.1+ certification requires the lens to pass high-velocity and high-mass impact testing regardless of frame configuration. The lens material and construction are designed to meet these standards in the frameless format.
What diopter strengths are available in the bifocal variants?
Clear +2.0 (216420), Clear +2.5 (216425), and Bronze +2.5 (216125). These cover the most common presbyopia magnification requirements. Workers unsure of their near-vision requirement should consult an eye care professional.
What ANSI rating does the ES4 carry?
ANSI Z87.1+ for high-velocity and high-mass impact across all variants, including bifocal and polarized options.
Is the Polarized Silver Mirror worth the premium over standard Smoke?
For workers whose primary concern is surface glare from reflective outdoor surfaces — water, concrete, metal — polarized lenses reduce eye fatigue more effectively than standard tinted lenses. At $30.99 versus $9.79 for Smoke, the premium is justified for full-time outdoor workers on high-glare sites but not for general use where standard smoke is sufficient.

Comfortable for smaller head, perfect when wearing muffs and shooting, you can wear a hat and it fits around the shades, Perfect
Great little pair of glasses .... VERY comfortable on your face, perfect my small / medium sized head. I hate those oversized glasses that you cannot wear a hat or the brim rides the top of them and does not fit right. These feel perfect when wearing and have nice thin arms on the side so when I wear my earmuffs they don't cause a gap between my head and the muffs cause they are so large and stick out far like most others.I use these when range shooting indoors and they work just fine ... I can wear my muffs, my hat fits like normal, they look great and offer the protection needed when shooting.Total win for the price!!!

Best glasses ever
These glasses simply can't be beat! They are made specifically for small face/head and they fit like no other. They don't squeeze your head excessively (causing headache), however, they aren't loose either, also they're very lightweight. I just ca g stress enough how comfortable they are. My job requires me to wear safety glasses at all times so comfort is key. I have several pair in all available colors. They also work well as sunglasses. ***they are z87 rated but if you need do heavy grinding I would recommend adding a faceshield. Safety first ***

Best Safety glasses I've ever wore
I had to review these Safety glasses because they are amazing ,I am a auto worker/factory worker and I have worn safety glasses for the last 17 years .These glasses are so light and comfortable you don't even feel them on your face, no matter how long you wear them .I found myself driving home and catching myself in the rear view mirror and noticed that they were still on my face .If you're looking for a light Comfortable pair of Safety glasses, these are the ones for you!!! they don't fog up and I love how they look like regular glasses .

Stylish and functional
I really like these. I wear them all day at work. They're comfortable, light weight, low profile, and more stylish than others that I've worn. I feel confident that I don't look like a dork in them. I would stress that these are LIGHT duty glasses. I use saws for aluminum a lot, and I have a pair of gasketed glasses for when I know there is going to be a lot of debris. I would recommend these as a basic daily driver pair of safety glasses. You won't regret it.

Comfortable, but flimsy
These are some really comfortable glasses for occasional use, unfortunately they're not the most sturdy pair of safety glasses ever. I work in a lab and used these for daily wear for about a month and a half before they fell apart. If you're going to be using them once or twice a month going to the range or maybe using them around the house, they're a good cheap buy otherwise, look elsewhere.

Great for work
I work in a factory and have to wear safety glasses 10-12 hours every day. I've been wearing many different brands for 15+ years and these are by far the best I've ever worn. They are light weight and I haven't had any fog issues. The nose piece is very comfortable and they got my large head without any pressure from the legs. I highly recommend these glasses, especially for larger heads.

Very comfy not prone to fogging up.
I've been using these safety glasses a few weeks now. They are light and very comfortable. They are sleek and do not obstruct your view. They also do not tend to fog up like other safety glasses probably due to the shape of the frames and lenses. They however do not protect your eyes as well as say the Jackson Nemsis V30 glasses. I accept the trade off because I work in hot environments and fogged up safety glasses are the most annoying thing ever. I use these for when I'm drilling into concrete and metal stud. As a construction electrician you tend to do a lot of drilling and chipping/hammering concrete in order yo run pipe. They do scratch easily like most safety glasses so be sure to keep them clean.
