ANSI Z87+ Anti-Fog Carhartt Ironside Safety Glasses Scratch Resistant UV Protection
EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.5/5 — WC Safety Review of the Carhartt Ironside, the outdoor wrap where every lens ships anti-fog.
Editorial assessment by Steven Eaton, WC Safety editor, based on published Carhartt specifications and category fit. We did not laboratory-test this product.

The Carhartt Ironside is a wrap-style safety frame for outdoor and industrial environments where ANSI Z87+ impact protection and anti-fog performance are both required. Every Ironside model uses anti-fog polycarbonate lenses, with a straight-back temple design, rubber nosepiece, and temple tips for a secure, adjustable fit. Clamshell "CC" models add a neoprene storage case that doubles as a lens cloth. It comes in Gray, Antique Mirror, and Sandstone Bronze — all anti-fog, outdoor-oriented tints.

Why the Carhartt Ironside builds anti-fog into every lens

On most safety glasses anti-fog is a specific SKU you have to remember to order — and the uncoated one fogs out on a warm outdoor shift. The Ironside removes that gamble: every variant, whatever the tint, ships anti-fog treated, on a secure wrap-style frame built for outdoor glare. The clamshell versions even throw in a neoprene case that doubles as a lens cloth. For sunny, sweaty outdoor work it's an easy default. Our full Carhartt Ironside review rates it 4.5/5, and the anti-fog guide explains why fog control drives compliance.

Safety first: built-in anti-fog keeps the lens clear, but the Ironside is impact-and-debris protection, not a sealed goggle — it is not rated against a chemical splash hazard, fine airborne dust, or vapor, which require sealed goggles or a face shield per your hazard assessment. Its tints are all outdoor-oriented, so a gray or mirror lens indoors dims your view of hazards — keep a clear lens for indoor tasks. Choose eyewear against measured hazards with the when-do-you-need-safety-glasses guide.

What the listing documents

From the published specs: ANSI Z87+ (Z87.1-2015 high-impact) certification; a wrap-style polycarbonate frame with straight-back temples, a rubber nosepiece, and temple tips; anti-fog on every variant; a clamshell "CC" option with a neoprene case that doubles as a lens cloth; three tints — Gray, Antique Mirror, and Sandstone Bronze; base model CHB620DT. As carhartt safety glasses go, the Ironside is the guaranteed-fog-control member — a genuine anti fog safety glasses on every variant and a true wrap safety glasses for the outdoors.

Choosing your Ironside variant

Every tint is anti-fog and outdoor-oriented: Gray for general glare, Antique Mirror for bright sun, and Sandstone Bronze for contrast in variable light — the clear-vs-smoke lens guide settles the tint call. Because fog control is the whole point, the anti-fog collection compares it against other fog-fighting options. Since the Ironside has no clear lens, indoor work is better served from the clear-lens collection, and shifting light by an indoor/outdoor lens.

Where the Ironside sits in the Carhartt line

The Ironside is Carhartt's all-anti-fog outdoor wrap; the Billings is the dual-certified full-frame, the Carbondale is the lightweight frame with polarized options and the widest tints, and the Easley carries the signature Black/Tan look. For a reading segment, see the Braswell bifocal. The best safety glasses 2026 roundup places the line against other brands, and the eye protection collection covers the category.

Where it fits by job and crew orders

The built-in anti-fog and outdoor tints suit sunny, sweaty outdoor trades — the construction, manufacturing, and mechanics guides rank frames by task, and smaller-faced wearers should check the small-face guide and women's fit guide. Where the hazard exceeds impact — splash, dust, vapor — step to a sealed goggle from the safety goggles collection. For crew orders, quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account — volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations, with the walkthrough linked in our footer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Carhartt Ironside?

A wrap-style safety frame for outdoor and industrial work where ANSI Z87+ impact protection and anti-fog performance are both required. Every model uses anti-fog polycarbonate lenses, with a straight-back temple design, rubber nosepiece, and temple tips. It comes in Gray, Antique Mirror, and Sandstone Bronze.

Do all Ironside variants have anti-fog?

Yes - every Ironside lens ships anti-fog treated, so you don't have to pick a specific anti-fog SKU. Whichever tint you choose, fog control is built in, which is the model's defining feature.

What are the CC (clamshell) models?

Clamshell 'CC' models include a neoprene storage case that doubles as a lens cloth - the same glasses in retail packaging with a protective pouch. Choose a CC variant if you want the case included.

Is it ANSI Z87+ rated?

Yes - the Ironside meets ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015 high-impact certification, covering both high-mass and high-velocity impact, so it satisfies the requirement for most industrial eye hazards.

What tints does the Ironside come in?

Gray, Antique Mirror, and Sandstone Bronze - all anti-fog, and all outdoor-oriented tints for glare and variable light. There is no clear variant; for indoor clear work, choose the Billings or Carbondale.

Why does the Ironside not have a clear lens?

The Ironside is aimed at outdoor and glare conditions, so its tints (Gray, Antique Mirror, Sandstone Bronze) are all sun- and contrast-oriented. For indoor tasks needing a clear lens, another Carhartt model is the better pick.

Does the secure fit help on the jobsite?

Yes - the straight-back temples with rubber tips and a rubber nosepiece grip and cushion the frame for a secure, adjustable fit, keeping it seated during active outdoor work.

Is it over-the-glasses (OTG)?

No - the Ironside is not an OTG frame. Prescription-glasses wearers should look at an over-the-glasses model, or the Carhartt Braswell bifocal if a reading segment is all they need.

Is it enough, or do I need goggles?

The Ironside protects against impact and debris from the front and sides. It does not seal against a chemical splash hazard, fine dust, or vapor - those need sealed goggles or a face shield. Match the eyewear to your hazard assessment.

What is the Antique Mirror tint for?

A mirror finish that cuts bright outdoor glare with a distinctive look, one of the Ironside's outdoor tints alongside Gray and Sandstone Bronze. All three come anti-fog treated.

How do I care for the lenses?

Rinse grit before wiping and use a microfiber or lens-safe cloth - the CC case doubles as one; harsh cleaners strip the anti-fog coating. Retire a lens once scratches enter your line of sight - a scratched safety lens no longer protects fully.

How do I order for a crew?

Wrong lens gives 4 stars
They cover you eyes well, comfortable to wear, and dont fog, but the strap in the back is kind of dorky luckily you can remove it, and the goggles around the lens can be removed too, which is good cuz if its hot out it locks in sweat and moisture and makes them unusable. i ordered the ones with a sandstone brown lens and got the regular dark polarized lens, which still work and arent too dark its just not exactly what i wanted and ordered, but not worth waiting to return and have the right pair come in

Good safety glasses. I wear them all the time even drivin at night. They cut down the glare. I think they also have some blue blockin as greens are brighter similar to yellow lenses. I try to keep a new pair in packaging fer when these get too scratched up
