Replacement test hood compatible with Allegro's Bitrex and saccharin qualitative fit test kits, per the listing.
Hoods fog, tear and cloud with use β a spare keeps testing day moving instead of ending it, and a second hood lets one tester leapfrog setup between employees.

allegro 2040-04 replacement hood for bitrex and saccharin β what the listing actually specifies
What to check before you buy
Personal protective equipment is the last line of defence, never the first. Under 29 CFR 1910.132 the employer must first eliminate or engineer out the hazard and control what is left administratively; PPE covers the residual risk. Where the residual hazard is a chemical splash hazard, an IDLH atmosphere or an energised circuit, the control is a zero-energy state or a supplied-air system, not a better consumable.
- Qualitative versus quantitative
- Qualitative testing relies on the wearer detecting a test agent and is limited to respirators with an assigned protection factor of 10 or less. Quantitative testing measures fit numerically and is required above that.
- Test agent and sensitivity screening
- Bitrex and saccharin protocols begin with a sensitivity screening to confirm the subject can taste the agent at all. Skipping it invalidates the test.
- Annual requirement
- OSHA 1910.134 requires fit testing before initial use, whenever a different facepiece is used, and at least annually thereafter.
- Medical evaluation comes first
- A medical evaluation is required before fit testing or respirator use. It is not optional and cannot be done after the fact.

Where a test hood fits in the programme
A qualitative fit test works by challenging the wearer's sense of taste or smell with an aerosol inside an enclosure while the respirator is worn. The hood IS the enclosure: it holds the challenge agent at a consistent concentration around the head so the result means something. A torn, stretched or contaminated hood changes the concentration and therefore changes the result.
The protocols are set out in 29 CFR 1910.134 Appendix A, which specifies the agents, the exercise regime and the pass criteria. A test that departs from the protocol is not a fit test, however carefully it is performed.
Why the consumables are controlled
Sensitivity screening comes first: the subject must demonstrate they can detect the agent at a low concentration before the test itself is meaningful, since a subject who cannot taste the solution will pass every time regardless of fit. Solutions are made up to the concentrations the appendix specifies and are not interchangeable between protocols.
Hoods and nebulisers accumulate residue from previous tests. Residue raises the background concentration and biases results toward a pass, which is the direction that matters - a false pass sends someone into an exposure with a respirator that leaks.
