Fit with work socks on, leave toe room inside the rigid cap, and consider height and insulation for the conditions. - Insoles do not add safety ratings
- An insole cannot add puncture resistance or any ASTM rating to a boot. Puncture-resistant plates are built into the boot construction.
- Volume changes fit
- Adding an insole reduces internal volume. A boot that fitted correctly can become too tight, which causes its own problems over a shift.
- Cushioning versus support
- Cushioning absorbs impact; arch support controls motion. They are different functions and the right choice depends on the complaint.
- Replace on compression
- Insoles pack down and stop rebounding long before they look worn out. Replacement is on feel and time, not appearance.
