KASK Zenith X-Air Hi-Viz Safety Helmet Overview

The KASK Zenith X-Air Hi-Viz Safety Helmet (WHE00085) is a vented climbing-style industrial safety helmet with eight air intakes, a hypoallergenic washable eco-leather chin strap, and high-visibility reflective decals. It meets ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 as Type I, Class C and the EN 12492 mountaineering standard.

As the KASK Zenith X-Air (KASK WHE00085), it is a vented safety helmet hi-viz build. This Type I Class C safety helmet is a climbing style safety helmet with chin strap and a loop to connect to a harness.

Class C means the vented shell is conductive, so this helmet has no electrical rating β€” a key point covered below. Compare it with the KASK Zenith X2 and the Petzl Vertex, understand the ratings in hard hat classes explained, and browse the range in safety helmets.

Who This Helmet Is For

Use case Fit Buyer guidance
Work at height, retention needed Strong Chin strap and harness loop.
Hot conditions, breathability Strong Eight air intakes vent heat.
Low-light visibility Strong Hi-viz reflective decals.
Electrical or arc-flash hazards Not suitable Vented Class C; use Class E/G.
ANSI Type II lateral requirement Choose X2 X-Air is ANSI Type I.

Read the rating before you rely on this helmet. It is ANSI Z89.1 Type I, Class C: Type I covers top impact, and while KASK designs the shell to help with side, front, and rear impact under EN 12492, the ANSI rating is Type I, not Type II. Class C means the vented shell is conductive and gives no electrical protection β€” do not wear it near energized electrical hazards, and choose a non-vented Class E or Class G hard hat for electrical work. The harness-connection loop helps secure the helmet, but a helmet protects your head, not your body: working at height still requires a personal fall arrest system with a harness, connector, and rated anchor. Confirm the marking inside the shell matches your hazard, and inspect the shell, strap, and cradle before each use. Learn the ratings in Type I vs Type II and hard hats vs safety helmets.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Vented 8-intake shell for breathability
  • Chin strap plus harness-connection loop
  • Hi-viz reflective decals for low light
  • Meets ANSI Z89.1 Type I and EN 12492
  • Impact performance tested to -30Β°C
Cons
  • Class C: no electrical protection
  • ANSI Type I only; X2 adds Type II
  • Vents rule out an electrical rating
  • Premium price vs a basic hard hat

How It Compares

The X-Air is a vented Type I safety helmet. Weigh it against nearby options:

Option Style Rating Best for
KASK Zenith X-Air (this page) Vented, chin strap Type I, Class C Breathability, work at height
KASK Zenith X2 Safety helmet Type I & II Lateral-impact requirement
Petzl Vertex Industrial helmet Verify on listing Alternate climbing-style helmet

Choose the X-Air for a vented, retained helmet where there is no electrical hazard, the Zenith X2 for ANSI Type II, or the MSA V-Gard H1 as another option. See best safety helmets, hard hats vs safety helmets, and Studson vs Milwaukee BOLT.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ANSI rating does the KASK Zenith X-Air have?

It meets ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 as Type I, Class C, and it also meets the EN 12492 mountaineering standard. Type I covers top impact and Class C means the shell is conductive with no electrical protection. Confirm the marking inside your helmet matches your task.

Is the X-Air a Type II helmet?

No. The ANSI rating on the X-Air is Type I. KASK designs the shell to help against side, front, and rear impact under EN 12492, but that is not the same as an ANSI Type II rating. If you specifically need ANSI Type II, look at the KASK Zenith X2 or another Type II helmet.

Can I wear it for electrical work?

No. It is vented and rated Class C, so the shell is conductive and gives no electrical protection. For work near energized parts, choose a non-vented Class E or Class G hard hat and follow your site's electrical-safety rules.

Why is a vented helmet only Class C?

Air vents let heat escape but also mean the shell cannot block electrical current or water, so vented helmets are rated Class C. If you need electrical protection, you cannot use a vented helmet; pick a sealed Class E or G shell instead.

Does it have a chin strap?

Yes. It uses a hypoallergenic, washable eco-leather chin strap with lateral adjustment, which helps keep the helmet in place during work at height. A retained helmet is a key reason to choose a climbing-style safety helmet over a basic hard hat.

How is it ventilated?

The shell has eight air intakes with internal outflow channels to move air across the head, which helps in hot conditions. The trade-off is that venting rules out an electrical (Class E or G) rating.

What temperatures does it handle?

KASK states it performs in impact absorption even at low temperatures, tested to around -30Β°C. As with any helmet, store it out of extreme heat and direct sunlight and inspect it before use.

Can I attach accessories or a face shield?

The Zenith platform accepts KASK accessories such as visors, ear defenders, and lamp clips, but confirm each accessory is compatible with the X-Air before relying on it. Not every universal accessory fits every helmet.

Is it a hard hat or a safety helmet?

It is a climbing-style safety helmet: it has a chin strap, a rounded vented shell, and a harness-connection loop, versus a traditional brimmed hard hat. Safety helmets emphasize retention and multi-directional design.

Does the harness loop make it fall protection?

No. The loop helps secure the helmet, but the helmet is head protection, not fall protection. Working at height still requires separate fall-arrest equipment β€” a harness, connector, and anchor rated for the job.

How do I clean and inspect it?

Wipe the shell with mild soap and water, wash the eco-leather chin strap, and avoid solvents that can weaken the shell. Inspect the shell, strap, and cradle before each use, and replace the helmet after any significant impact.

How is the X-Air different from the X2?

The X-Air is ANSI Type I and vented (Class C). The KASK Zenith X2 line adds an ANSI Type II rating for lateral impact. Choose the X-Air for ventilation and top-impact work, or the X2 where Type II lateral protection is required.

You can purchase reflective decals separately
This is just a basic kask zenith, why its over 100 dollars more than similar models is beyond me. Nothing different or special except the high vis decals which can be purchased separately for under 30 dollars.....helmet looks nice and I payed about 250 for helmet, face shield, brim attachment, and my own random stickers all together.....
