Moldex 4701N100 AirWave N100 Respirator — SmartStrap + Valve, Small — NIOSH-Approved N100 Disposable Respirator

An air-purifying respirator filters air, it does not supply any. Under 29 CFR 1910.134 no air-purifying respirator may be worn in an atmosphere that is IDLH or oxygen-deficient (below 19.5% oxygen). Those conditions require a supplied-air respirator or an SCBA, and no filter or cartridge rating changes that.

Moldex 4701N100 AirWave N100 Respirator — SmartStrap + Valve, Small is the small-size variant of Moldex's 4700N100 AirWave N100 — identical 99.97% N100 non-oil filtration, identical AirWave comfort cup and SmartStrap headband, and identical exhalation valve — sized for workers with narrower or shorter face dimensions who need maximum non-oil particulate filtration in a properly fitting disposable respirator.

Hazard Coverage — Moldex 4701N100 AirWave N100 Respirator — SmartStrap + Valve, Small

The Moldex 4701N100 AirWave N100 Respirator — SmartStrap + Valve, Small is NIOSH-approved under 42 CFR 84 as an N100: ≥99.97% filtration of non-oil particulates — the maximum non-oil efficiency class. Use for fine non-oil hazards: asbestos abatement (dry environments), radionuclide dust, sub-micron metallic fumes. Browse all N99 and N100 respirators.

No oil resistance — in oil-mist environments use a P100.

Moldex 4701N100 AirWave N100 Respirator — SmartStrap + Valve, Small

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the exhalation valve on the 4701N100 do?
The exhalation valve opens when you breathe out, allowing warm humid air to exit directly rather than passing back through the filter media. This reduces heat and moisture buildup inside the mask — a significant comfort advantage during extended or physically demanding wear. Inhalation closes the valve, so all inhaled air is filtered normally.
Does the valve on the 4701N100 reduce filtration efficiency?
No. The exhalation valve does not affect inhalation filtration efficiency — the 4701N100 still filters inhaled air at the rated N95/R95/P100 level. The valve only controls exhaled air routing. Note: because exhaled air is not filtered, valved respirators are not appropriate as source-control devices (e.g., in surgical environments or when protecting others from the wearer).
Is a valved respirator like the 4701N100 acceptable for source control?
No. A valved respirator directs exhaled air outward unfiltered and is not appropriate where the wearer must also protect others (surgical settings, some healthcare environments). Facility policies may prohibit valved masks in sterile or at-risk patient areas. For source-control requirements, use an unvalved N95 or a surgical N95.
What does N100 mean for the 4701N100?
N100 indicates NIOSH approval for ≥99.97% filtration of non-oil-based particles — the maximum non-oil efficiency class, identical to P100 efficiency but without oil resistance. The 4701N100 is appropriate for fine non-oil hazards like asbestos (in dry environments) or radionuclide dust. Browse all N99 and N100 respirators .
Is the 4701N100 NIOSH-approved?
Yes. The 4701N100 is NIOSH-approved under 42 CFR 84 as an N100 filtering facepiece. Confirm the TC approval number on the NIOSH Certified Equipment List .
How does the 4701N100 compare to P100?
Both N100 and P100 filter at ≥99.97% efficiency. The difference: P100 is oil-proof (approved for oil aerosol environments with no time limit); N100 is approved only for non-oil particulates. If your environment has any oil mist, use a P100 instead.
Does the 4701N100 require a fit test?
Yes. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 requires fit testing before occupational use. See our fit testing guide .
Can the 4701N100 be used for asbestos work?
The N100 filter at ≥99.97% efficiency is appropriate for asbestos abatement in dry environments with no oil aerosols. OSHA's asbestos standards require P100 for most abatement tasks; confirm your specific requirement with a certified industrial hygienist.
Is the 4701N100 reusable?
No, the 4701N100 is a disposable respirator. Discard when soiled, damaged, or when breathing resistance increases.
How many come in a box?
See the product title for pack count. Browse all N99 and N100 respirators .
What hazards does the 4701N100 NOT protect against?
The 4701N100 does not filter gases, vapors, or chemical vapors — only non-oil particulates. It provides no protection against oxygen-deficient atmospheres.
What is the shelf life of the 4701N100?
Typically 5 years from production date in sealed packaging stored in cool, dry conditions. Check the expiration date on the box.
