Qualitative testing relies on the wearer detecting a test agent and is limited to respirators with an assigned protection factor of 10 or less. Quantitative testing measures fit numerically and is required above that.

Test agent and sensitivity screening

Bitrex and saccharin protocols begin with a sensitivity screening to confirm the subject can taste the agent at all. Skipping it invalidates the test.
