Capacity per caster, times the count

Caster ratings are per wheel. The usual guidance is to divide the total load by the number of casters minus one, so an uneven floor cannot overload a single wheel.

Wheel material against the floor

Soft wheels protect finished floors and roll quietly over debris; hard wheels roll with less effort on smooth surfaces but transmit shock and can mark floors.

Swivel versus rigid layout

Two rigid and two swivel gives predictable straight-line tracking. Four swivel gives maneuverability but is harder to push in a straight line under load.

Mounting pattern

Plate size, bolt hole pattern and stem type are not universal. Measure the existing mount before ordering replacements.
