- OSHA requires the brakes of a highway truck or trailer to be set and wheel chocks or an equivalent restraint placed before a powered industrial truck drives on.

Does OSHA require wheel chocks at a dock?
Yes. Under 1910.178(k) and (m) the brakes must be set and wheel chocks placed - or an equivalent means of restraint used - before a powered industrial truck enters a highway truck or trailer.
What capacity dock plate do I need?
It must carry the forklift, the load and the operator together. Sizing to the pallet weight alone is a common and dangerous error.
What is trailer creep?
The gradual movement of a trailer away from the dock caused by repeated forklift entry and exit. It opens a gap at the dock edge, which is why restraints matter.
Do I need fall protection at a dock door?
An open dock door with no trailer is an unprotected edge. Gates, barriers or equivalent protection should prevent access when the door can be opened with nothing at the dock.
What is the difference between a dock plate and a dock board?
Dock plates are lighter, for hand trucks and light loads. Dock boards are heavier, usually with side curbs, and rated for powered industrial trucks.
