Amazon customer rating: 4.7 / 5 - WC Safety review of the 1/2 Inch Drive Click Torque Wrench, 10-170 Ft-Lb, Dual-Direction Adjustable.

The 1/2 Inch Drive Click Torque Wrench, 10-170 Ft-Lb, Dual-Direction Adjustable is one of our picks for the torque wrench lineup. Everything below comes straight from the manufacturer's published listing - specs, capacities, and dimensions are theirs, not ours.

A torque wrench turns "tight enough" into a number - and on scaffold couplers, structural fasteners, and wheel lugs, the number is a safety spec, not a preference. Click-type wrenches here publish their ranges and accuracy (typically Β±3-4 percent); store them backed off to their lowest setting, and recalibrate on the maker's schedule for spec-critical work.

Key details, quoted from the manufacturer's published listing:

  • Β±3% High Precision This torque wrench features dual scale readings, ranging from 10-170 ft-lbs and 13.6-230.5 Nm, with a torque increment of 1 ft-lb, providing exceptional precision and accuracy. Each torque wrench is rigorously tested to ensure the calibration error does not exceed Β±3%....
  • High Quality The body of the 1/2 inch torque wrench is crafted from high-quality chromium-vanadium steel, which enhances its strength and durability, ensuring long-lasting performance even under heavy use.The handle is made from chromium-molybdenum steel, which not only contributes to its...
  • Reliable and Safe When the set torque value is reached, the torque wrench car emits a click sound or the handle vibrates, signaling you to stop applying force, preventing the risk of over-torquing and damaging the item. Additionally, the head features a quick-release button, allowing for...
  • Easy to Use First, pull down the locking knob and hold it in place, then rotate the handle until the desired torque setting is reached. Finally, release your hand, and the locking knob will automatically rebound to lock the value in place. The scale is very clear, and reading the torque is...
  • Multiple Usage Scenarios A 10-170 ft-lb torque wrench is commonly used in scenarios where high torque is required for fastening or loosening bolts, nuts, or other fasteners. Typical applications include:motorcycle repair and automotive tire, engine, suspension transmission and differential...

What to check before you buy

Range, not maximum
Accuracy is specified over a stated portion of the range, commonly 20 to 100 percent of full scale. A wrench used near the bottom of its range is at its least accurate.
Calibration interval
Manufacturers typically specify recalibration after a set number of cycles or a fixed period. A wrench that has been dropped needs checking regardless of the interval.
Storing a click wrench
Click-type wrenches are wound down to the lowest setting for storage to relieve the spring. Leaving one set at high torque shortens its accurate life.
Direction of use
Many click wrenches are only calibrated in the tightening direction. Check before using one to loosen anything.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a torque wrench?

Typical click wrenches are specified around plus or minus 4 percent in the clockwise direction, over a defined portion of the range. Accuracy outside that portion is not guaranteed.

How often should a torque wrench be calibrated?

Follow the manufacturer specification - commonly a fixed number of cycles or an annual interval, whichever comes first. Recalibrate immediately after a drop or any suspected overload.

Should I store a click wrench at zero?

Wind it down to the lowest setting on the scale rather than forcing it below zero. This relieves the internal spring while leaving the mechanism within its designed range.

Can I use an extension or adapter?

An extension in line with the drive does not change the applied torque. An adapter that extends the length of the wrench does, and the setting has to be recalculated.

Click, beam or digital?

Beam wrenches are simple and hold calibration well but need a clear line of sight. Click wrenches are fast and the standard for production work. Digital wrenches add logging and angle measurement at higher cost.

Where do the specifications on this page come from?

They are taken from the manufacturer's published listing. WC Safety does not laboratory-test products, and nothing is claimed here that the manufacturer does not state.

Does WC Safety sell this product?

No. WC Safety is an independent review site and an Amazon Associate. Purchases happen on Amazon, and we earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

How was the rating on this page determined?
