Why the Ergodyne GloWear 8210Z is the foundational mesh Class 2 pick

Many industrial and construction programs need a straightforward Class 2 vest that stays cool and stays closed — nothing more elaborate. The 8210Z is exactly that entry point: a mesh body that circulates air for warm-weather comfort, a zipper front that holds through bending, reaching, and lifting, and Type R Class 2 coverage for environments with vehicle speeds up to 50 mph. It is the core mesh-and-zipper model in GloWear's Class 2 line, without the premium features of higher-tier vests. As safety vests go, this is the foundational mesh zipper pick, and the best hi-vis safety vests guide and ANSI 107 guide cover how to match a vest to the work zone. It keeps crews cool, covered, and compliant.

Safety first: the 8210Z is high-visibility apparel for being seen in traffic and low light — it is not protective clothing rated for a chemical splash hazard, cut, flame, or arc. For those hazards, wear the appropriate rated PPE, including chemical-resistant gear for chemicals. Class 2 covers up to 50 mph, so step to Class 3 for high-speed zones, and confirm the class with the when-do-you-need-hi-vis guide. Retire the vest once the fluorescent fabric fades or the tape cracks, since faded material no longer meets its rating.

What the Ergodyne GloWear 8210Z listing documents

From the published specs: ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R, Class 2 certification; a mesh fabric body for breathability; a zipper front closure for secure retention; and Class 2 background and retroreflective coverage for environments up to 50 mph. These are true class 2 mesh vest credentials and a genuine zipper hi-vis vest — a breathable safety vest positioned as the straightforward foundational option in the GloWear Class 2 line.

How the Ergodyne GloWear 8210Z compares to other hi-vis

For the mid-tier mesh zipper vest, the GloWear 8220Z; for a solid-lime zipper vest, the GloWear 8225Z; for the standard two-tone zipper vest, the GloWear 8230Z; for the black-bottom mesh version, the GloWear 8210ZBK; and for a Class 3 surveyor vest, the GloWear 8346Z. The complete hi-vis apparel guide covers the range.

Choosing the right hi-vis garment

Match Type, Class, fabric, and closure to the work zone, speed, and season. For garment families, browse the high-visibility, Class 2 vests, and Class 3 vests collections; for shirts and layers, the hi-vis shirts, hi-vis jackets, and hi-vis hoodies; and for the shirt decision, the hi-vis shirts guide.

Where it fits by job and crew orders

The 8210Z suits construction, industrial, and utility crews who need a cool, secure Class 2 vest at the foundational tier. Size it correctly to keep the reflective geometry in place, step up to Class 3 for high-speed zones, and retire it when the material fades; for outerwear options, compare the hi-vis jackets guide and the hi-vis rainwear collection. Frequently asked questions

What is the Ergodyne GloWear 8210Z?

An ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R, Class 2 mesh hi-vis safety vest with a zipper front closure. It is GloWear's foundational mesh Class 2 zipper vest, pairing lightweight breathable mesh with secure zipper retention for broad industrial and construction use.

What does Type R, Class 2 mean?

ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R covers roadway workers, and Class 2 meets the standard for environments with vehicle speeds up to 50 mph, providing the background material area and retroreflective stripe geometry that Class 2 specifies, as the listing states.

Why choose mesh?

Mesh construction allows air circulation through the vest for thermal comfort in warm conditions - the main reason mesh is preferred over solid fabric in summer deployments and warm-climate programs.

Why a zipper closure?

The zipper provides secure vest retention through active construction and maintenance work where bending, reaching, and lifting could open a hook-and-loop closure, keeping the Class 2 coverage geometry in place.

How does it differ from the 8220Z?

Both are mesh Class 2 zipper vests; the 8210Z is the foundational entry model, while the 8220Z sits in the mid-tier of GloWear's Class 2 line. Choose the 8210Z for the straightforward mesh-and-zipper option.

How does it differ from the hook-and-loop 8210HL?

The 8210Z uses a zipper front for secure retention; the 8210HL uses a hook-and-loop closure for quick on-and-off. Choose the zipper for active work and the hook-and-loop for frequent removal.

Is this chemical or cut protective clothing?

No - the 8210Z is high-visibility apparel for being seen, not rated for a chemical splash hazard or cut protection. Use chemical-resistant or cut-rated PPE for those hazards.

When is Class 3 needed instead?

Class 3 is required for high-speed traffic above 50 mph and complex or low-light work zones. Confirm the class with the ANSI 107 guidance and your traffic control plan.

Does it work day and night?

Yes - the fluorescent background provides daytime conspicuity and the retroreflective stripes return headlight and work-light beams at night.

What sizes are available?

Confirm the size and fit options on the product listing; a properly fitted vest keeps the reflective geometry positioned for its rated visibility.

How do I care for it?

Follow Ergodyne's care instructions and laundering limits; retire the vest when the fluorescent fabric fades or the retroreflective tape cracks, since faded material no longer meets its visibility rating.

How do I order for a crew?

Quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account - volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations. The bulk-ordering walkthrough is linked in our site footer.

I now hate velcro!!!!!!!!!
How did I live without this vest? I started purchasing these construction safety vests for deer hunting because they are a thousand times better than the cheap solid material orange vests traditionally marketed for deer hunting. They come in big sizes to fit over everyone's hunting jackets, they have super bright reflective markers on them, they are extremely durable, they are super cheap (usually under 4 bucks), they wash well if muddy and dry fast, but most of all I have now found them with zipper closures. If you are a deer hunter, then you know if you have to undo a strip of velcro while sitting quietly in the woods, the sound is as though an F-16 fighter jet was flying overhead. we tried these zipper closure vests and we will NEVER go back to velcro. The velcro is as loud as the devil himself when you are on the stand and it tends to snag on the mesh material when unhooked and in your pack. the zippers are super quiet by comparison and do not snag on everything in sight. To hunt we travel at night, by boat, in the intracoastal waterway with tons of barge traffic. A potentially hazardous trip every time we go. The silver strips on these vests are super reflective and can easily be seen at night by barge traffic, other hunters, other boaters, etc..etc...Your lives are worth these vests! But they are super inexpensive to boot. Get them!!!! Your wives, children, hunting buddies lives are worth it!!!

Nice
These run really big! Nicely made with all the pockets and easy zipper closure. They are warm to wear so if your looking for lightweight this is not. Really good quality.

safer on the road
I wear this very bright yellow safety vest with reflective bands to cycle to work in an urban setting every day. Even in this summer's 90+ degree heat, it is lightweight and breathable. As a petite woman, even the smallest size is big on me, but that's ok - will fit over my winter coat as well.Drivers see me from further away. It won't keep the truly homicidal or soundly asleep drivers from hitting me, but it's a big improvement in my visibility, especially at twilight when even the best bike lights don't show up all that well.

Peace of Mind for Early Morning
I bought this vest because I jog early in the morning and live in a semi-rural area; I've noticed that traffic no longer has to light me up in the brights as they whiz by, so they can see the vest. My only caveat is that I happened to select a size that's a little large for me: This vests are cut generously, so don't think you need to size-up when ordering them. If you wear a specific shirt size, this vest will more than match that sizing.

Vests for nighttime walks
I purchased 2 small/medium vests for myself and my daughter to wear when we walk early in the morning. They run LARGE. I'm small and my Daughter is a medium. They do make us much more visible in the dark. I thought the description of the vest said that the inner pocket of the vest had a zipper, which would have been nice. It does not have an inner pocket zipper. For price these vests are good and service their purpose.
