Pyramex Ridgeline XR7 Safety Helmet Type 1 Class E

Polycarbonate (PC) adds two properties when blended with ABS: higher impact resistance and higher heat deflection temperature. Pure ABS shells can soften at elevated temperatures (above ~80°C), whereas ABS/PC composites maintain structural integrity at higher temperatures. For Class E electrical helmets, the dielectric properties of both materials are compatible — the PC addition does not compromise the 20kV electrical rating. Most premium safety helmet shells use ABS/PC blends for this reason.

Non-vented. Class E electrical helmets must have a closed, non-vented shell per ANSI Z89.1 — venting would create openings that could admit electrically conductive particles or reduce the dielectric integrity of the shell. If airflow is a priority and electrical hazards are not present, consider a Class G vented helmet instead. For Class E work, the 6-point suspension's open-frame design provides some airflow between the shell and head.

The ratchet suspension adjusts from size 6.5 to 8 (approximately 20.5" to 25" head circumference). The easy-to-grasp knob allows single-handed, one-handed adjustment without removing the helmet. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.135 and 1926.100 require head protection that meets ANSI Z89.1. The XR7 meets ANSI Z89.1-2014 Type 1, Class E — exceeding the minimum requirement. For work involving electrical hazards, Class E is the appropriate selection per OSHA's PPE standard. Always conduct a job hazard analysis per 1910.132 to confirm the selected type and class is appropriate for your specific exposure.

The Ridgeline XR7 is Type 1 — tested for top-of-head impact only. Type 2 helmets add lateral (side) impact protection via an inner foam or suspension liner. The XR7 has universal accessory slots for compatible face shield brackets and hearing protection mounts. Pyramex offers accessories designed for this platform. Accessory compatibility should be verified with Pyramex — third-party accessories not tested with this specific model may not meet ANSI/ISEA standards when attached.

Clean the shell surface with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry before application. Apply stickers to flat or gently curved areas of the shell exterior. Do not apply over surface cracks, dents, or existing stickers. Avoid covering date codes stamped inside or outside the shell. ANSI Z89.1 does not prohibit sticker application on the exterior — however, verify with your employer's PPE policy, as some site rules restrict shell modifications.

Replace the shell every 2–5 years from date of first use (date code is stamped inside the shell) and the suspension annually, or sooner if either shows damage. Replace immediately after any significant impact regardless of visible damage — internal structure may be compromised without visible cracks. Store away from UV exposure, solvents, and extreme temperatures when not in use. OSHA 1910.135(b)(1) requires replacement per manufacturer guidelines and after any significant impact.
