Milwaukee BOLT Safety Helmet — White Vented, Type 2 Class C

The Milwaukee BOLT Safety Helmet (SKU: 48-73-1300) is a type 2 class c Type 2 safety helmet designed for construction, manufacturing, and industrial work. Its white shell and vented design keep workers cool while meeting ANSI/ISEA Z89.1-2014 impact requirements for both top and lateral (Type 2) impacts.

Unlike Class E helmets designed for electrical work, Class C (Conductive) helmets are intended for general construction where electrical hazards are not present — foremen, framers, concrete crews, and tradesmen who need Type 2 lateral protection without the added weight of an electrical rating. Always verify your job-site JSA to confirm Class C is appropriate before use near power lines.

BOLT-Compatible Accessory System

The Milwaukee BOLT platform is an integrated accessory ecosystem that connects ear muffs, face shields, lighting modules, and other protective equipment directly to the helmet shell without straps or adapters. This is Milwaukee's alternative to the traditional pin-and-ratchet attachment found on conventional hard hat accessory systems — faster to attach, more secure under movement, and compatible across the full Milwaukee BOLT lineup.

Suspension & Fit

Milwaukee's padded suspension system uses a 5-point adjustable chin strap to hold the helmet securely during overhead work and work-at-height tasks. The suspension's low-profile design seats the shell close to the head — a key feature for workers who need to move in and out of tight spaces. Head circumferences from approximately 20" to 24" are supported without a separate fit kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ANSI class is the Milwaukee BOLT safety helmet?

This model is rated ANSI/ISEA Z89.1-2014 Type 2, Class C. Type 2 adds lateral impact protection. Class C (Conductive) provides no electrical insulation — do not use near live conductors. If electrical hazard protection is required, you need a Class E or Class G helmet.

What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2?

ANSI Z89.1 Type 1 protects only against top-of-head impacts. Type 2 adds lateral (side, front, and rear) impact protection — required by OSHA in many construction scenarios and increasingly specified in project specs for at-height work.

Is the Milwaukee BOLT helmet compatible with other Milwaukee accessories?

Yes — the BOLT system is designed for use with Milwaukee BOLT-compatible face shields, earmuffs, lights, and other PPE. Only use accessories labeled BOLT-compatible; non-BOLT accessories may not seat securely.

Why does this helmet say "vented" if head protection must seal?

ANSI Z89.1 does not require a sealed shell for structural integrity. Venting is achieved through molded slots in the outer shell. Impact absorption comes from the suspension system and shell geometry, not a hermetic seal. Vented helmets are not appropriate near live electrical conductors (Class E or G requirement) — but for Class C general construction, venting is permitted and reduces heat fatigue.

How often should I replace this helmet?

Milwaukee recommends replacing the shell after any significant impact, after 5 years from manufacture date, or when visible damage (cracks, chalking, UV weathering) is present. The suspension should be replaced every 12 months or on any sign of damage. The manufacture date is molded inside the shell.

Can this helmet be painted or have stickers applied?

Solvent-based paints and certain adhesives can degrade the shell material and void ANSI compliance. Manufacturer-approved pressure-sensitive labels are generally acceptable. When in doubt, select the appropriate shell color from Milwaukee's available variants rather than painting.

Does the chin strap meet OSHA requirements?

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.100 does not universally mandate chin straps but your site's Job Safety Analysis (JSA) may require them when there is risk of helmet displacement from falls or equipment contact. The 5-point chin strap on this helmet meets that requirement for BOLT-equipped work.

What head sizes does the suspension fit?

The adjustable suspension accommodates most adult head circumferences (approximately 20"–24"). The ratchet adjuster allows incremental tightening. If your head circumference exceeds 24", check Milwaukee's extended-fit accessory options.

Almost good
The helmet itself is solid. It’s a little heavy for my liking. The head liner against my forehead was uncomfortable. The adjustable fit was good. The face shield is well made and attaches solidly to the helmet. Unfortunately, you have to remove the face shield to put the goggle attachment on. So, it’s one or the other, but not both at the same time. The earmuffs are the real weak point. Where they attach to the helmet is flimsy and flexes too much when you move the earmuffs. Which brings up the other earmuff problem. The earmuffs pivot in and out making for easier removal. However, the mechanism is so stiff that it causes excessive flex where the muffs attach to the helmet. I could see this over time causing the plastic to fail.

Falls apart after 6 months
There's no suspension to replace there's just a thin pad held in place by weak velcro. First time I took it out to clean it just fell apart held together with glue no threads total garbage. I got a replacement liner for 30 bucks because you can't just have foam sitting on your head its very hard. But now there's no way to attach it because the velcro fell off the foam....if I did not have to use this hat with my company's name on it I would toss it in the garbage. 6 months ...done. every other hardhat ever owned never failed even after 20 years my msa is better then this garbage.
