The energy absorber lanyard for the Petzl ASAP β€” ASAP'SORBER AXESS

An energy absorber lanyard here is not a general connecting lanyard: the Petzl ASAP'SORBER AXESS is the absorber that joins a Petzl ASAP or ASAP LOCK mobile fall arrester to your harness on a rope-access system. It does two jobs β€” it limits fall forces with a tear-tape absorber, and it extends the ASAP away from the rope so you can work clear of the line and keep the rope away from sharp tools. AXESS is the longer version, giving a little more working distance. At about 0.57 lb it barely adds weight, and its tear-tape sits in an openable case for inspection.

Shoppers searching an energy absorbing lanyard for the asap sorber, the petzl asap sorber, or a rope access lanyard to pair with an ASAP land here. It is professional rope-access equipment β€” certified and rated for the loads below.

What the ASAP'SORBER is for

Rope-access work at height β€” window cleaning, inspection, and rescue β€” where an ASAP mobile fall arrester rides a backup rope and this absorber connects it to the harness. It sits in the lanyards collection, forms the connector-and-absorber link in the ABC system explained in the fall protection equipment guide and the ABCDs of fall protection, and applies wherever a fall hazard triggers the rules in when is fall protection required.

Building the system around the absorber

Connect the ASAP'SORBER between a Petzl ASAP or ASAP LOCK on your backup rope and the sternal or dorsal attachment of a harness from the full body harnesses collection β€” ranked in the best safety harness guide β€” using a rated carabiner such as a Petzl connector. Anchor the rope to a rated point from the anchor points collection, sized to the anchor strength requirements. Inspect the harness to the harness inspection checklist, and fit a suspension trauma strap for the rescue plan.

How the ASAP'SORBER compares

This is a rope-access absorber, not a general lanyard. For standard overhead-anchor fall arrest, the SafeWaze FS560-AJ and free-fall-rated FS88760-FF are simpler connecting lanyards; for tie-back structure work, the Petzl ABSORBICA-Y wraps large members. Because the ASAP rides a rope, this system overlaps with a self-retracting lifeline in purpose β€” see the shock-absorbing lanyard vs SRL guide and the best self-retracting lifelines guide. Browse the lanyards & lifelines collection, or build a rig from the best fall protection kits. Everything lives in the fall protection collection.

Safety note: the ASAP'SORBER is one component of a personal fall arrest system for rope access and works only with a Petzl ASAP or ASAP LOCK mobile fall arrester, a compatible backup rope, a rated anchor, and a full body harness, under OSHA 1926.502 and the manufacturer instructions. Do not use it as a standalone lanyard or a positioning device. Stay within the 50 to 130 kg working range (the 250 kg rating applies to two-person rescue only), inspect the tear-tape absorber through its case before use, and retire the unit after any fall or once the absorber has begun to tear.

Ordering FAQ

Is the Petzl ASAP'SORBER AXESS in stock and ready to ship?
Yes β€” this listing is active and ships through Amazon. The linked Amazon listing carries live price and delivery.

What does the ASAP'SORBER do?
It is the energy absorber that connects a Petzl ASAP or ASAP LOCK mobile fall arrester to your harness. It absorbs fall energy and extends the ASAP away from the rope so you can work clear of the line.

Can I use it as a standalone lanyard?
No β€” the ASAP'SORBER is used exclusively with a Petzl ASAP or ASAP LOCK mobile fall arrester. It is not a general connecting lanyard between a harness and a snap-hook anchor; it is part of a rope-access fall-arrest system.

What is the AXESS version?
AXESS is the longer of the ASAP'SORBER lengths, giving a little more distance between the ASAP on the rope and your harness so you can work farther from the line.

Is it a work-positioning device?
No β€” despite how it is sometimes listed, it is a fall-arrest energy absorber, not a positioning lanyard. It does not hold you in a work position; it limits the force of a fall on the rope-access system.

What certifications does it meet?
CE EN 355 and ANSI Z359.13, rated for a 6 ft free fall. It is professional-grade rope-access and work-at-height equipment.

What weight range does it cover?
It is designed for users from 50 to 130 kg, and can be used up to 250 kg as part of a two-person rescue.

How heavy is it and what is it made of?
About 0.57 lb, in polyamide and polyester, with a tear-tape absorber housed in a resistant openable case.

How does the energy absorber work in a fall?
A tear tape in the absorber rips in a controlled way to reduce the impact force transmitted to the user. Once it has torn or deployed, the unit must be retired from service.

Why work away from the rope?
Holding the ASAP off the line frees up your work area and protects the rope from sharp tools and contact points that could damage it during the working phase.

How do I inspect it before use?
Open the case at the ends to inspect the tear-tape absorber, and check the webbing and any end connectors for cuts, wear, and function. Retire it after any fall or if the absorber shows signs of deployment.

How do I reorder for a crew?
Reorder from this page β€” the linked Amazon listing carries the current options for equipping rope-access workers.

Trustworthy equipment but buy the newest version.
Buy the newest ASAP version. I use this exact old model ASAP daily for high rise window cleaning and it has two problems... 1. It locks up if I repel too fast (super annoying). 2. Sometimes for no reason it doesn't stay positioned on the rope. Most of the time it works great. And it is very safe. I trust this piece of equipment but wish I had the newest model that actually has a lock on it oppose to the old one which doesn't.
