What to check before you buy
Exhaust is the hazard; wattage is the spec. A portable generator belongs outdoors, at least 20 feet from the building with exhaust pointed away β never a garage or porch, doors open or not. CO-shutoff sensors are a backup for a mistake, not a licence to move the unit closer; check whether a unit is certified to ANSI/PGMA G300-2023 (shutoff) or the stronger ANSI/UL 2201 (shutoff plus reduced CO emissions), and size on running watts before starting watts.
