What to check before you buy

Selection starts with the published rating, not the marketing headline. Under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.176, materials handling comes down to secure storage, clear aisles, and equipment used within its rated capacity — match the working load to the manufacturer's number, check the floor and route the wheels will actually roll on, and treat any listing that hides its rating as a reason to keep shopping.

Slope control and end stops

A gravity line moves loads with height, not power — set the pitch so packages roll controlled, and fit end stops so nothing leaves the last roller at speed.

Roller centers vs load footprint

Keep at least three rollers under the smallest load at all times; a short box on wide centers dives between rollers.

Frame rating and hand placement

Check the per-foot frame rating against your heaviest surge, and keep hands off the roller faces while product is moving — unpowered does not mean pinch-free.

Load rating and incline

Capacity ratings assume level running and even loading. Inclines, heavy point loads and surge loading all change the picture.
