What to check before you buy

Cut level for the actual hazard
ANSI/ISEA 105 cut levels run A1 to A9. Handling cardboard and pallets is a different problem from handling sheet metal or glass.
Grip coating and conditions
Coatings behave differently wet, oily and dry. A coating that grips dry cardboard can be useless on oily steel.
Impact protection
Back-of-hand impact protection is separately rated under ANSI/ISEA 138. It addresses crushing and pinch injuries that cut resistance does nothing for.
Dexterity trade-off
Higher cut levels usually mean thicker, stiffer gloves. A glove too clumsy for the task gets removed, which protects nobody.

Frequently asked questions

What do ANSI cut levels mean?

ANSI/ISEA 105 rates cut resistance from A1 to A9 based on the weight required to cut through the material over a set distance. Higher numbers mean more cut resistance.

What cut level do I need?

Match it to the hazard. General handling and packaging often sit in the A1 to A3 range; sheet metal, glass and blade work push toward A4 and above.

What is ANSI/ISEA 138?

The standard for back-of-hand impact protection, rated 1 to 3. It is separate from cut rating and addresses crush and pinch injuries.

Which coating should I choose?

Nitrile handles oils well, polyurethane gives fine dexterity for dry precision work, latex grips well in the wet. The condition of what you are handling decides it.

Do cut-resistant gloves stop punctures?

Not reliably. Cut and puncture are different failure modes and are rated separately - a high cut level says little about needle or spike resistance.

Where do the specifications on this page come from?

They are taken from the manufacturer's published listing. WC Safety does not laboratory-test products, and nothing is claimed here that the manufacturer does not state.

Does WC Safety sell this product?

No. WC Safety is an independent review site and an Amazon Associate. Purchases happen on Amazon, and we earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.
