Bullard C33 Full Brim Hard Hat - Type II Class E, HDPE, 6-Point Ratchet, Made in USA Overview

The Bullard C33 Full Brim Hard Hat is a Type II, Class E head protection system built around a tough high-density polyethylene (HDPE) shell and a 6-point ratchet suspension, proudly Made in the USA. The full 360-degree brim sheds rain, sun, and falling debris around the entire circumference, giving it an edge over cap-style hats for outdoor and overhead work.

Under ANSI/ISEA Z89.1, the Type II classification means this hat is impact-tested for both top and lateral (side, front, and rear) impact, not just the crown - important wherever swinging loads, slips, or struck-by hazards come from off-axis. The Class E rating provides dielectric protection tested to 20,000 volts, making the C33 appropriate for electrical, utility, and high-voltage environments. Because Class E integrity depends on a solid shell, the C33 is non-vented - never substitute a Class C (vented) hat near energized conductors.

The 6-point ratchet suspension distributes impact energy across more contact points than a 4-point and dials in a secure, repeatable fit with a one-hand rear knob. Browse more full-brim hard hats or compare the full hard hats range, and confirm your rating with the hard hat selection guide. Per OSHA 1910.135, retire and replace any hard hat after a significant impact or once it passes the date code molded inside the shell.

What It Is Built For

Use case Fit Buyer guidance
Electrical and utility work (up to 20kV) Ideal Class E dielectric rating to 20,000V makes the C33 a correct choice for energized environments; keep it non-vented.
Construction with overhead / struck-by hazards Ideal Type II top + lateral impact protection covers off-axis strikes; full brim adds debris shedding.
Outdoor / sun-exposed jobsites Ideal 360-degree full brim sheds rain and shades the neck and ears better than a cap style.
Hot / high-airflow indoor work needing ventilation Not suitable The C33 is non-vented to preserve its Class E rating; choose a Class C vented hat only where there is no electrical hazard.
Confined overhead clearance / tight cap-style fit Consider alternative A full brim adds width; a cap-style hard hat may clear tight spaces better.

A hard hat protects only if it fits and is in date. Match the impact type (Type I top-only vs Type II top + lateral) and electrical class (Class E 20kV / G 2.2kV / C conductive — never wear Class C near electrical) to the hazard. Adjust the suspension for a snug, level fit, inspect the shell and suspension before each use, and replace at the manufacturer date code (shells about 5 years, suspensions about 12 months from first use, and immediately after any impact). OSHA 29 CFR 1910.135 / 1926.100 requires head protection where objects may fall. See how to adjust a hard hat suspension and hard hat classes explained.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Type II rated for both top and lateral impact, not just crown strikes
  • Class E dielectric protection tested to 20,000 volts for electrical work
  • 6-point ratchet suspension spreads impact load and gives one-hand fit adjustment
  • Full 360-degree brim sheds rain, sun, and debris all the way around
  • Durable HDPE shell, Made in the USA
Cons
  • Non-vented, so it runs warmer than a vented Class C hat in hot conditions
  • Full brim is wider than a cap style and can catch in tight overhead clearances
  • Must be replaced after any impact or at the molded date code per OSHA 1910.135

How It Compares

Within the Bullard full-brim family, the C33 and the Bullard S61 cap-style hard hat (HDPE, 4-point ratchet) share the same Type II / Class E ratings and HDPE shell, but differ in two ways: the C33 has a 360-degree full brim versus the S61's cap-style front-only brim, and the C33 steps up to a 6-point ratchet suspension versus the S61's 4-point - more contact points for load distribution. Choose the full-brim C33 for outdoor sun and rain shedding; choose the cap-style S61 for tighter overhead clearances. For other Class E full-brim options, compare the Ergodyne 8971 Skullerz full-brim (Class E) and the Klein Tools KARBN non-vented full-brim (Class E). See the full lineup of full-brim hard hats.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Bullard C33 a Type I or Type II hard hat?

It is a Type II hard hat, meaning it is impact-tested under ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 for both top and lateral (side, front, and rear) impact, not just the crown.

What is the electrical rating of the C33?

The C33 is Class E, providing dielectric protection tested to 20,000 volts, which makes it appropriate for electrical, utility, and high-voltage work.

Is the Bullard C33 vented?

No. The C33 is non-vented. Vents would compromise its Class E dielectric rating, so it is built as a solid shell. Use a vented Class C hat only where there is no electrical hazard.

Can I use the C33 near energized electrical conductors?

Yes, within its rating. As a Class E hat it is tested to 20,000 volts. Never substitute a Class C (conductive/vented) hat near electrical hazards, and follow your site's electrical safety program.

What suspension does the C33 use?

It uses a 6-point ratchet suspension. The six contact points distribute impact energy and the rear ratchet knob lets you adjust fit with one hand.

How is the 6-point suspension different from a 4-point?

Six suspension points spread impact load across more contact areas of the head than four. For step-by-step setup, see our guide on how to adjust a hard hat suspension.

What shell material is the C33 made from?

The shell is high-density polyethylene (HDPE), a tough, impact-resistant thermoplastic. The C33 is made in the USA.

What is the difference between the C33 full brim and a cap-style hard hat?

The C33 has a 360-degree full brim that sheds rain, sun, and debris all the way around and shades the neck and ears. A cap-style hat has a front-only brim and is narrower for tight overhead clearances.

How does the C33 compare to the Bullard S61?

Both are Type II / Class E HDPE hats. The C33 is full-brim with a 6-point ratchet; the S61 is cap-style with a 4-point ratchet. Choose the C33 for outdoor coverage, the S61 for tight clearances.

When do I need to replace the C33?

Per OSHA 1910.135, replace any hard hat immediately after a significant impact and retire it at the shell date code. Inspect regularly for cracks, dents, or UV damage.

Is the C33 compatible with Bullard accessories?

Yes. The shell is designed to work with Bullard's accessory ecosystem. Use only manufacturer-approved accessories so the hat keeps its ANSI rating.

Does the full brim help in rain and sun?

Yes. The 360-degree brim sheds rain away from the face and neck and provides shade around the full circumference, which a front-only cap brim cannot match for outdoor work.

Nice Product. Good Value
I use it as a waterproof rain hat cuz the price was right—I bought the cheapest color. Maybe it might protect me from an owl attack. Not actually kidding either. A female jogger was attacked by a Barred Owl last week just south of me. Required stitches. But back to the hat—do not try to attach the suspension system w/o watching a YouTube video. I can almost guarantee you'll get it wrong and maybe even wreck your hat if you try to use force or power tools.Anyway, it's a perfectly fine hardhat—good quality, nice finish, good fit, but watch the video: "Bullard Wildland Helmet Suspension" to stay happy with your purchase.

Good Product
This helmet fits snug and is sturdy. The webbing did NOT come assembled to the hard hat which would have been nice. Haven't gotten bonked on the noggin yet so I can't say how that part work but it seems like it could take a pretty good blow w/o a problem.
