Amazon customer rating: 4.6 / 5 - WC Safety review of the Rhino USA Ratchet Straps Tie Downs 4-Pack, 1 Inch x 15 Feet, 1823lb Break Strength.

The Rhino USA Ratchet Straps Tie Downs 4-Pack, 1 Inch x 15 Feet, 1823lb Break Strength is one of our picks for the tie-down lineup. Everything below comes straight from the manufacturer's published listing - specs, capacities, and dimensions are theirs, not ours.

Working load limit - not break strength - is the number that matters when securing cargo: WLL is typically one-third of the rated break strength, and total tie-down WLL must meet or exceed half the cargo weight under FMCSA securement rules. Inspect webbing for cuts and UV fray before every use.

Key details, quoted from the manufacturer's published listing:

  • STANDARD RATCHET STRAPS - Locking tie down straps with a precision manual crank-and-release mechanism, anodized ratchet, and positive locking system. Feed the webbing, crank it tight, and release with a single tab.
  • EASY TO USE MANUAL RATCHET TIE DOWNS - Traditional non-retractable ratchet straps with ergonomic padded handle for controlled tensioning with coated full-bend S hooks and keeper clips - compatible with anchor points on truck beds, trailers and roof racks. Press the release tab to loosen.
  • MOTORCYCLE, ATV, KAYAK AND TRUCK BED TIE DOWNS β€” Built for securing motorcycles, ATVs, kayaks, roof racks, truck bed cargo, moving appliances and furnitureIncludes 4 ratchet tie downs, soft loops and a carrying bag for easy storage.

What to check before you buy

Working load limit, not break strength
The WLL is the number that matters. Break strength is the point of failure in a lab; the WLL is what the assembly is rated to hold in service, typically a third of break strength.
Assembly rating is the weakest part
A strap is only rated as high as its lowest-rated component - webbing, ratchet or end fitting. Replacing a hook with a stronger one does not raise the assembly rating.
Webbing condition
Cuts, abrasion, chemical damage and UV degradation all remove capacity that is not visible as a number. Damaged webbing is removed from service, not derated.
Number of tie-downs
Cargo securement rules are based on aggregate working load limit relative to cargo weight, plus minimum counts by cargo length - not on what looks tight enough.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between working load limit and break strength?

Break strength is the force at which a component fails under test. Working load limit is the maximum force it is rated to carry in normal use - conventionally one third of break strength. Always secure to the WLL.

How many straps do I need?

Under the US cargo securement rules the aggregate working load limit of the tie-downs must be at least half the weight of the cargo, with minimum counts based on cargo length and weight. Check the specific article rules for your load.

When should a ratchet strap be retired?

Remove any strap from service if the webbing has cuts, holes, burns, chemical damage or heavy abrasion, or if the ratchet or end fittings are cracked, bent or corroded. Damaged straps are replaced, not repaired.

Do ratchet straps lose strength over time?

Yes. UV exposure degrades polyester webbing gradually, and the loss is not visible as a number. Straps stored outdoors or used in constant sunlight should be inspected more aggressively and replaced sooner.

Are bungee cords a substitute for ratchet straps?

No. Elastic cords hold light items in place but have no meaningful working load limit for securement and can release stored energy toward the user. They are not cargo securement devices.

Where do the specifications on this page come from?

They are taken from the manufacturer's published listing. WC Safety does not laboratory-test products, and nothing is claimed here that the manufacturer does not state.

Does WC Safety sell this product?

No. WC Safety is an independent review site and an Amazon Associate. Purchases happen on Amazon, and we earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

How was the rating on this page determined?

The score shown is the live Amazon customer rating captured at the time of review. It reflects buyer feedback, not a WC Safety test result.
