LPR-100 Miller Nuisance OV P100 Respirator Filters
Editor's take:

The Miller SA00819 LPR-100 P100 OV Filters pair P100 particulate performance with a nuisance-level organic vapor odor layer and a spark guard built for welding work. Compare the plain SA00818 P100 filter if you don't need the OV feature, or see the Miller LPR-100 half mask respirator these filters mount to.

Miller SA00819 LPR-100 P100 OV Filters overview

The Miller SA00819 LPR-100 P100 OV Filters are a pair of P100 replacement filters — at least 99.97% efficient against airborne particles and oil aerosols — built specifically for the Miller LPR-100 half mask respirator. A carbon layer adds nuisance-level organic vapor odor relief, and a pleated design increases surface area to reduce breathing resistance. A wraparound spark guard protects the filter media from welding sparks and grinding debris, and the media resists deteriorating in humid conditions. See our best respirator for welding fumes guide and P100 vs N95 for the broader selection context.

Be precise about the OV feature: "nuisance-level" relief works only below the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit — it's odor comfort, not certified organic-vapor protection at hazardous concentrations. If your job has real OV exposure at or above the PEL, you need a proper organic vapor cartridge, not this filter. The SA00818 is the plain-P100 sibling without the OV layer, at the same core particulate performance, if you don't need the odor relief. These filters mount only via Miller's Push to Connect system on the LPR-100 platform — not 3M, MSA, Honeywell North, GVS, or Dräger respirators.

Safety note — nuisance relief is not gas protection at hazardous concentrations.

This filter's organic-vapor relief works only when concentrations are already below the OSHA PEL — it does not protect you if organic vapor, or any other gas, reaches or exceeds that limit. It provides no protection beyond particulate and nuisance-level OV, and no filter adds oxygen. Oxygen-deficient, unknown, or IDLH atmospheres require supplied air, SCBA, or another solution specified by a qualified safety professional — lead and cadmium fume exposure in particular often carry additional monitoring and medical-surveillance requirements beyond just wearing a filter.

Where it fits

It's built for welding, cutting, grinding, and general metalworking where hexavalent chromium, galvanized steel, aluminum, or other metal fumes are the primary hazard, and light odor from nearby solvents or fumes is a comfort issue rather than a measured OV exposure. The spark guard makes it specifically better suited to welding-adjacent work than a plain particulate filter without that protection. It's not the right choice for confirmed organic vapor exposure at or above the PEL, or any gas hazard beyond nuisance-level OV — see respirator filter types explained and best respirator cartridges for gas-specific options if your hazard assessment calls for more. Pair the mask with a welding helmet and welding gloves, or step up to PAPR II filters and the PAPR II helmet for powered air over a tight-fitting half mask.

Pros & cons

Pros
  • P100 (99.97%) with added nuisance-level OV odor relief
  • Wraparound spark guard for welding/grinding work
  • Pleated design, reduced breathing resistance
  • Humidity-resistant filter media
Keep in mind
  • OV relief works only below the OSHA PEL, not above it
  • Fits Miller LPR-100 only — not other brands
  • No protection beyond particulate + nuisance OV
  • Lead/cadmium work may need added monitoring, not just this filter

Frequently asked questions

What does "nuisance OV relief" mean on these filters?

It means the carbon layer provides odor relief for organic vapor only at concentrations below the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) — it's a comfort feature, not certified protection against organic vapor at hazardous concentrations. If your job has real organic vapor exposure at or above the PEL, you need a proper organic vapor cartridge, not this filter.

What's the difference between the SA00819 and the SA00818?

Both are P100 filters for the LPR-100 with the same particulate performance, but the SA00819 adds a carbon layer for nuisance-level organic vapor odor relief, while the SA00818 is a plain P100 filter with no OV feature. Choose the SA00819 if occasional odor from low-level solvents or fumes bothers you; choose the SA00818 if you just need particulate protection.

What respirators does this filter fit?

Miller LPR-100 half mask respirators only, via Miller's own Push to Connect mount. It does not fit 3M, MSA, Honeywell North, GVS, or Dräger respirators — those use different, incompatible connection systems.

How efficient is the particulate filtration?

P100 — at least 99.97% of airborne particles and oil aerosols, the highest NIOSH particulate filter class, with a pleated design that adds surface area to reduce breathing resistance.

What welding fumes and metals does it protect against?

Particles, oil aerosols, hazardous solid dust, and metal fumes/mists including hexavalent chromium (stainless steel), galvanized steel, steel/manganese alloys, aluminum, cadmium, and lead fumes — a hazard list matched to common welding and metalworking exposures.

What is the spark guard for?

A wraparound spark guard covers the pleated filter media to protect it from welding sparks, grinding debris, and other physical damage during use — useful since P100 filters used for welding work are routinely exposed to hot spatter.

Does this filter resist humidity?

Yes — the filter media is built to resist deteriorating in humid conditions, which helps maintain filter life and performance in sweaty, hot, or damp work environments.

How is the filter installed on the mask?

It uses Miller's Push to Connect system — the filter pushes directly onto the LPR-100 respirator's filter port without a twist-lock or bayonet mechanism. Confirm a firm, secure seat each time you install a fresh pair.

Can I use this for lead or cadmium fume exposure?

The P100 filtration is rated for those metal fumes, but lead and cadmium exposure often come with additional regulatory requirements (exposure monitoring, medical surveillance) beyond just wearing a filter — follow your facility's written respiratory protection program and any OSHA substance-specific standard that applies.

How many filters come in a pack, and how often do I replace them?

Sold as a pair (2 filters), one for each side of the LPR-100. Replace them when breathing resistance increases noticeably, when they're visibly damaged or clogged, or per your employer's change-out schedule — a particulate filter has no reliable odor indicator for when it's "full."

Is this filter good for general dust, not just welding?

Yes — P100 is a general-purpose high-efficiency particulate rating, so it also suits construction dust, silica, and other fine particulate work, not just welding. The spark guard is a welding-specific bonus feature that doesn't hurt performance in non-welding dust environments.

Do I need a fit test to use the LPR-100 with these filters?

Yes. Any tight-fitting respirator used for occupational protection requires an OSHA fit test and a user seal check each time it's worn, and it won't seal properly over facial hair crossing the sealing surface. The filter only performs as rated behind a properly sealed facepiece.

Filters
Great direct replacement for the miller respirator. I’ve used it for when I had to melt through some epoxy. Couldn’t tell that I was smoking out the whole room. I’ve been using them for welding for months now and they’re amazing. If you don’t get it to seal right on your face they fog up your safety glasses but other than that I’ll keep buying them.
