What Miller LPR-100 P100 Replacement Filters Do
These are purpose-built welding filters, not a generic P100. The media captures at least 99.97% of airborne particulate and is strongly oil-resistant, and Miller names the hazards it is built for: welding fumes and mists, oil aerosols, hazardous solid dusts, and metal fumes including hexavalent chromium, stainless steel, galvanized steel, steel and manganese alloys, aluminum, cadmium, and lead. Two design details earn their keep in a weld bay: a wrap-around spark guard that shields the media from spatter and debris, and a pleated element that adds surface area so the mask breathes easier over a long shift. On the LPR-100's patented low-profile shell, the whole assembly fits under most welding helmets without fighting your field of view.
The limit is the one that applies to every particulate filter: P100 does not filter gases. Welding produces ozone, nitrogen oxides, and β in confined work β shielding-gas oxygen displacement, and none of that is captured here. Safety note: These are particulate filters. The P100 rating is genuine protection against welding fume, metal particulate, and oil aerosols β but it provides no gas or vapour protection, so ozone and other welding gases pass straight through and need ventilation or a rated gas cartridge. As air-purifying filters they do not supply oxygen: never use them in an oxygen-deficient or IDLH atmosphere, and note that welding in a confined space is a classic oxygen-displacement hazard requiring a supplied-air respirator or SCBA plus atmospheric monitoring. Fit-test the respirator, wear it clean-shaven, and confirm you have LPR-100 filters rather than Gen II filters before you rely on them.
Compatibility β Check Your Generation First
The SA00818 fits Miller LPR-100 half-mask respirators. It is not compatible with Gen II models, which take the 294963 filters instead β a genuinely easy mistake to make, since both are Miller half masks and the model naming is similar. Do they protect against welding gases like ozone?

Those need local exhaust ventilation or a rated gas cartridge. Treat the P100 as covering the fume side of the hazard only.
Will these fit an LPR-100 Gen II respirator?

What is the spark guard for?

Why is the filter pleated?
Pleating packs more filter media into the same footprint, which increases surface area. More surface area means lower breathing resistance for the same filtration efficiency, so the mask breathes easier over a long shift β a meaningful comfort factor when you are already working under a helmet. Breathing resistance is one of the main things separating half-mask respirators in daily use.
Are they compatible with 3M, GVS, or Gerson respirators?
No. These are Miller-specific filters for the LPR-100 platform and do not fit 3M, GVS Elipse, Gerson, Honeywell, or Moldex facepieces. Keep the filter and the respirator the same brand and model family so the NIOSH approval remains valid.
Are they sold as a pair, and do I change both?
Yes β SA00818 is a pair, one filter for each side of the dual-filter LPR-100. Always replace both at the same time so each side has matched service life and even breathing resistance. Running one fresh filter against one loaded filter unbalances airflow through the mask. Keep a spare pair with your other respiratory protection so a loaded filter never becomes an excuse to skip the mask.
Are these adequate for hexavalent chromium welding?
P100 is the particulate class used for hexavalent chromium fume, and Miller lists Cr(VI) among the fumes these filters capture. But hex chrome is a regulated carcinogen with its own OSHA standard (29 CFR 1910.1026) covering exposure assessment, controls, and a written program β the filter is one control within that, not the whole compliance picture. Confirm your respirator selection against measured exposure.
When should I replace the filters?
Replace them when breathing resistance noticeably increases, when the media is visibly loaded, damaged, wet, or spark-pitted, or on your written change schedule. In heavy welding, filters load faster than people expect. A particulate filter gives no odor warning, so do not wait for a sign β change on condition and schedule. Can I clean or reuse the filters?
No. Filter media cannot be washed, blown out, or knocked clean β any of that damages the media and voids the NIOSH rating. Replace the filters rather than trying to extend them, and wipe down only the respirator body itself.
Do I still need a fit test?
Yes. The LPR-100 is a tight-fitting respirator, so workplace use requires an OSHA fit test and a user seal check every time you put it on, and it will not seal over facial hair on the sealing surface. Can I use them in a confined or low-oxygen space?
