Halyard purple nitrile exam gloves explained

Halyard Purple Nitrile Exam Gloves are the classic purple nitrile exam gloves — the same iconic glove long sold under Kimberly-Clark. At 5.9 mil they are thicker and more protective than a typical thin exam glove, powder-free, not made with latex, ambidextrous, and textured at the fingertips. The manufacturer rates them for maximum coverage and moderate-to-high exposure to fluids or chemicals, which is what sets them apart from a lightweight everyday glove.

As purple nitrile gloves they are the color clinics and shops recognize; the halyard purple nitrile gloves name carries a long track record; and as 5.9 mil nitrile gloves — proper purple exam gloves — they bridge medical, lab, and hands-on trade work.

Key features

  • 5.9 mil — thicker, more protective than a standard exam glove
  • Rated for moderate-to-high fluid and chemical exposure
  • Purple nitrile; the classic ex-Kimberly-Clark glove
  • Powder-free and not made with latex
  • Textured fingertips; ambidextrous; 9.5" cuff
  • Exam grade (non-sterile); tactile sensitivity and dexterity
  • Sizes XS–XL; box of 100 (sold by the case too)

Pros & cons

What these gloves are for

Clinical and dental exam use, labs, and hands-on trades — tattoo, plumbing, mechanic, cleaning, and painting — where you want more than a thin glove's protection. They are ranked in our nitrile exam gloves guide, and for trade work our nitrile gloves for mechanics and nitrile gloves for cleaning guides. The material background is in our nitrile gloves complete guide and nitrile vs latex gloves.

Compatibility

The moderate-to-high exposure rating covers splashes and incidental contact, not prolonged immersion — for sustained contact with aggressive chemicals use a dedicated chemical-resistant glove and see our chemical-resistant nitrile gloves guide. The powder-free build is covered in our powdered vs. powder-free nitrile gloves guide.

How the Halyard Purple compares

Among premium exam gloves, the Kimtech Purple is the other classic purple, and the cobalt Inspire Cobalt Blue is a value 4.5 mil alternative. For a lighter everyday medical glove, the MedPride is the workhorse and the Kimtech Vista a value blue; the full-textured Curad is another all-purpose pick. Browse the full nitrile gloves collection and the wider hand protection range organized by grade, thickness, and color.

Safety note: nitrile is not made with latex, so Halyard Purple suits people with a latex allergy — and while it is rated for moderate-to-high fluid and chemical exposure, that is an exposure rating for splashes and incidental contact, not a guarantee against prolonged chemical immersion. Confirm compatibility with your specific chemicals, replace gloves when torn or soiled, and step up to a chemical-resistant glove where the task calls for it.

Ordering FAQ

Is Halyard Purple in stock and ready to ship?
Availability changes — open the linked listing for live price, size and count options, and delivery speed before you order.

How thick are they?
5.9 mil — thicker and more protective than a typical 3–4 mil exam glove, which is why they are rated for moderate-to-high fluid and chemical exposure while still giving good tactile feel.

Are they good for chemical exposure?
The manufacturer rates them for moderate-to-high exposure to fluids and chemicals — more than a thin exam glove offers. That is an exposure rating, not an immersion rating; for prolonged contact with aggressive chemicals use a dedicated chemical-resistant glove.

Are they exam / medical grade?
Yes — these are non-sterile nitrile examination gloves, long used in clinics and dental offices (Halyard was formerly Kimberly-Clark). For sterile procedures choose a glove labeled sterile.

Are they powder-free and latex-free?
Yes — powder-free and not made with natural rubber latex, so there is no powder residue and no natural-latex proteins.

Do they have a textured grip?
Yes — textured fingertips help you handle instruments, utensils, and tools with a secure grip, wet or dry.

What length are the cuffs?
9.5 inches, giving a bit more wrist coverage than a short-cuff glove — useful for messier or splash-prone tasks.

Are they good for tattoo, plumbing, or mechanic work?
Yes — the manufacturer positions them for tattoo, plumbing, mechanic, cleaning, and painting as well as medical use, thanks to the heavier 5.9 mil build. See our nitrile gloves for mechanics guide.

Are they bulky or thin-feeling?
They are on the thicker, more protective side. Most users like the durability, though a few doing very fine dental work find the tactile feel less delicate than a thin glove — match the weight to your task.

What sizes are available?
The Purple Nitrile line runs XS–XL, 9.5-inch length, sold by the box of 100 and by the case. Reviewers note fit is accurate; a couple felt a case ran small, so confirm your size.

Can I reuse them?
They are single-use exam gloves from the nitrile gloves range. For medical, food, or contamination-control work use them once and change them.

How do I reorder for a clinic or shop?
Reorder from this page — the listing and its linked item stay constant, so restocking with the same box or case from the hand protection range takes seconds.

These are the best. A+++++
These are the best gloves. My doctor’s office had this brand but the grey ones. So I tried them since I’m in nursing and I use gloves like crazy. They are thick enough and durable. They fit perfectly. They don’t rip easy at all. When I was reading reviews I didn’t know if I wanted to purchase because I didn’t see any pics so I took the chance and I love them and im gonna post pics for the next reviewer. I really recommend this brand hands down. They are comfortable too

Protective Gloves
Started buying these pre-pandemic. Kept buying them through the pandemic and still buying them 5 years after the pandemic. They protect my hands while cooking...don't chop a jalapeno without these gloves, cleaning....don't scrub a toilet without these gloves and I definitely don't dust without these gloves as I'm allergic to dust mites. So I will keep on buying these gloves no matter what is going on in the world.

Wrong Size
I’ve always used this style and company of gloves size medium so when I found a deal on a case, I figured I would purchase it. I tried them on the other day and they are way too small almost like an extra Small Not even a small

Not Really For Chairside Dental Care
My office staff didn't care for these at all. They felt like there was little to no tactile sense, describing as a little better than wearing playtex cleaning/scrubbing gloves. The fit is accurate but bulky for size medium. Careful reading of the description states for all fluid types of exposure, including chemicals. We feel that a better use of these gloves would be in a lab or industrial setting, where tactile sense would not be as important.I gave a score of 3☆ because they did recommend in the description that these would be well suited for a dental environment. We don't feel they are.
