- Range, not maximum
- Accuracy is specified over a stated portion of the range, commonly 20 to 100 percent of full scale. A wrench used near the bottom of its range is at its least accurate.
- Calibration interval
- Manufacturers typically specify recalibration after a set number of cycles or a fixed period. A wrench that has been dropped needs checking regardless of the interval.
- Storing a click wrench

How accurate is a torque wrench?
Typical click wrenches are specified around plus or minus 4 percent in the clockwise direction, over a defined portion of the range. Accuracy outside that portion is not guaranteed.
How often should a torque wrench be calibrated?
Follow the manufacturer specification - commonly a fixed number of cycles or an annual interval, whichever comes first. Recalibrate immediately after a drop or any suspected overload.
Should I store a click wrench at zero?
Wind it down to the lowest setting on the scale rather than forcing it below zero. This relieves the internal spring while leaving the mechanism within its designed range.
Can I use an extension or adapter?
An extension in line with the drive does not change the applied torque. An adapter that extends the length of the wrench does, and the setting has to be recalculated.
