Frontpage: the short answer

Frontpage — this collection covers 1 listing from 3M. Every product links out to the seller; WC Safety is not a retailer and takes no orders.

WC Safety is America's trusted source for safety gear, personal protective equipment, emergency preparedness supplies, and workplace safety products. From the nation's construction sites and industrial facilities to family homes and vehicles, we supply the equipment that protects people every day from the full range of hazards that workplaces, households, and outdoor environments present. Our catalog spans thousands of products across PPE, fire safety, home security, auto emergency, tools, and emergency preparedness — curated from the brands that safety professionals have relied on for decades.

Personal protective equipment is the heart of our coverage. We cover hard hats, safety helmets, face shields, and safety goggles for head and eye protection; N95 and industrial respirators for respiratory protection; cut-resistant, chemical-resistant, and impact-resistant gloves for hand protection; high-visibility vests and FR clothing for body protection; and steel-toe and composite-toe footwear for foot protection. Every piece of PPE we cover is NIOSH-approved, ANSI-compliant, or meets the specific standard required by OSHA regulations for its intended application category.

Fire and life safety is another core strength of our coverage. We cover smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, combination alarms, fire extinguishers, and fire escape ladders for residential and commercial fire preparedness. Our AED defibrillators, first aid kits, trauma kits, and bleeding control supplies equip both workplaces and households for medical emergencies that require immediate response before EMS arrives. Our home security collection — cameras, video doorbells, smart locks, and alarm systems — provides modern, connected security solutions for residential properties.

For workplaces governed by OSHA standards, we provide a comprehensive range of regulatory compliance products. Lockout/tagout hardware for energy control programs, safety signage and floor marking tape for hazard communication, eyewash stations and safety showers for chemical exposure response, and spill control supplies for hazardous material incidents are all stocked and ready to ship. Our industrial safety catalog supports safety programs in manufacturing, construction, oil and gas, utilities, healthcare, and food processing environments.

Our emergency preparedness collection addresses the full range of natural disaster and emergency scenarios. Bug out bags, earthquake kits, hurricane prep supplies, emergency food rations, water storage and purification, power outage supplies, and survival tools equip households and businesses to sustain themselves through multi-day emergencies without relying on public emergency supply systems that may be overwhelmed during major disasters. We cover the FEMA-recommended 72-hour kit minimum as well as extended 2-week and 30-day preparedness supplies for comprehensive household resilience.

Tools round out our catalog with a comprehensive selection of hand tools, power tools, cordless tool systems, and tool storage solutions from DeWalt, Milwaukee, Klein Tools, and Stanley. Whether you are a professional tradesperson equipping a new crew, a serious DIYer building out a home workshop, or a homeowner looking for quality tools for maintenance and repair, we have the tools and brands that deliver professional performance.

WC Safety is committed to providing the safety products that protect people — at work, at home, and everywhere in between. Browse our collections to find the equipment you need, or use our navigation to explore specific safety categories. Every product we cover is selected for genuine protective performance and backed by the manufacturers who stand behind their safety claims.

Common questions

Does the rating on the box equal the protection I get?

No. Published ratings come from laboratory conditions. Regulators apply derating precisely because real fit is worse, and the derated figure is the one to plan from.

Which figure should a written program use?

The derated one, and the conservative derate where more than one applies. Planning on the label is how a worker ends up with less protection than the paperwork claims.

Who is responsible for providing this equipment?

Where a standard requires PPE for a hazard, the employer provides it at no cost to the employee, along with training in its use, care and limitations.

Does equipment expire?

Most of it does. Elastomers harden, foams stop rebounding, and coatings craze. A component past its service life can look perfectly serviceable and no longer perform.

Is a higher rating always better?

No. Over-protection carries its own hazards, from isolation from alarms to heat stress and reduced dexterity. Match the rating to the measured or assessed exposure.

What if two published sources disagree?

Treat it as unresolved and plan on the lower figure until the manufacturer or the marking on the item settles it. We flag these disagreements on the page rather than picking one.

Does a foreign approval count in the United States?

Generally no. US workplaces require the US approval - NIOSH for respirators, and the relevant ANSI standard for most other PPE. A CE, EN or AS/NZS mark describes a different test.

Is training required as well as equipment?

Where a standard requires PPE it almost always requires training with it: what the hazard is, how to fit and inspect the item, its limitations, and when to replace it.

Does PPE replace engineering controls?

No. PPE sits at the bottom of the hierarchy of controls. Where engineering or administrative controls can reduce the exposure, they are required first and PPE is not a substitute.

How do I know an item actually meets the standard it claims?

Look for the marking on the item itself, not the listing copy. Standards specify what must be stamped on the product, and a claim that appears only in a description is not a marking.

Sources. Requirements referenced here come from OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and the NIOSH recommendations. Where a consensus standard governs, the ANSI document is named in the text.

Why trust WC Safety

WC Safety is an independent, affiliate-supported review site. It is not a retailer: it holds no inventory, takes no orders, and earns only from qualifying purchases through clearly marked links — which never changes what a product is rated to do. Standards language is taken from the regulation text directly, and ratings are reported as the manufacturer publishes them. We run no laboratory and perform no testing of our own. Where published sources disagree, we say so and plan on the conservative figure rather than the flattering one.

Our methodology

Figures come from the regulation and the published specification, in that order. Derated numbers are calculated, not estimated. Nothing here is presented as a measured result, because we measure nothing.

Researched and written by Steven Eaton, editor of WC Safety. Steven holds no safety certification and does not test products; this page compares what manufacturers and regulators publish, with the gaps in that record marked. Last reviewed August 2026.
