Key Features β€” Honeywell North 760008A

Applications β€” When to Use the North 760008A

  • High-concentration chemical environments requiring APF 50: The primary use case for full-face over half-mask. When airborne concentrations exceed 10Γ— OEL (the APF 10 ceiling of a half-mask) but are ≀ 50Γ— OEL, a full-face APR is required. Common situations: confined-space chemical entry, high-concentration solvent operations, process upset response, and industrial cleaning with concentrated chemicals
  • Corrosive gas and vapor environments with eye hazard: HF, HCl, Clβ‚‚, SOβ‚‚, ammonia, and bromine are both respiratory hazards and eye/mucous membrane hazards. The 760008A's polycarbonate lens eliminates the need for separate chemical splash goggles in most corrosive atmospheres β€” a meaningful operational advantage in confined access areas and emergency response
  • Asbestos abatement β€” Class I operations: OSHA 1926.1101 requires minimum APF 50 for Class I asbestos work (removal of thermal system insulation and surfacing ACM) when negative-pressure containment is not maintained. The 760008A with 7580P100 P100 satisfies the APF 50 requirement. Confirm specific work classification requirements with a certified industrial hygienist before deployment
  • Lead abatement at elevated concentrations: OSHA 1926.62 requires APF 50 full-face protection when airborne lead exceeds 500 Β΅g/mΒ³ (10Γ— PEL of 50 Β΅g/mΒ³). The 760008A with 7580P100 P100 provides the required full-face APF 50 protection level for lead abatement at these concentrations
  • Silica-generating operations at higher concentrations: When respirable crystalline silica concentrations exceed 10Γ— the PEL (0.5 mg/mΒ³ for quartz), a full-face APR is required. The 760008A with 7580P100 P100 provides APF 50 particulate protection for concrete demolition, tunneling, and silica-heavy construction
  • Spray painting and isocyanate environments: Two-part urethane and isocyanate-based coatings involve respiratory sensitizers that justify APF 50 full-face protection in many industrial spray environments. Select 7583P100L OV/AG/P100 or 7581P100L OV/P100 based on the specific paint chemistry documented in the SDS
  • Ammonia environments requiring APF 50: Anhydrous ammonia in agriculture, refrigeration, and chemical manufacturing can reach concentrations where APF 10 half-masks are insufficient. The 760008A with N75004L NH₃ cartridge provides APF 50 ammonia protection. Above 50Γ— OSHA PEL (1,750 ppm), a SCBA is required
  • Oil refinery and sour gas maintenance: Hβ‚‚S in sour crude environments, combined OV/AG exposures in process facilities. The 760008A with 7583P100L OV/AG/P100 addresses mixed gas hazard profiles at APF 50

OSHA Compliance & Fit Testing

All Honeywell North full-face respirators carry NIOSH 42 CFR 84 TC-14C approval β€” the NIOSH classification for tight-fitting full-face air-purifying respirators. Under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 Appendix A, a properly fit-tested full-face APR carries an Assigned Protection Factor of 50 β€” five times the APF 10 of a half-mask.

  • Written respiratory protection program: Required under OSHA 1910.134(c) before any operational use β€” must include hazard assessment, written program, medical evaluation, fit testing, and cartridge change-out schedules. Full-face respirators place higher respiratory demands than half-masks and require specific documentation
  • Medical evaluation first: OSHA 1910.134(e) requires a PLHCP-reviewed medical questionnaire before fit testing or operational use β€” full-face respirators require medical clearance before workers may be fit tested
  • Annual fit testing: OSHA 1910.134(f)(2) mandates annual qualitative (QLFT) or quantitative (QNFT) fit testing. Qualitative fit testing is valid only for respirators used at ≀ APF 10; above that, quantitative fit testing is required for strict compliance. Confirm with your PLHCP or industrial hygienist for the specific testing protocol required for APF 50 programs
  • User seal check every use: Positive and negative pressure checks per OSHA Appendix B-1 before each entry into the work area β€” required for all tight-fitting facepieces
  • Cartridge change-out schedule: OSHA 1910.134(d)(3)(iii) requires a written schedule based on objective data β€” never rely on odor breakthrough as the change indicator
  • APF 50 ceiling: Full-face APRs are appropriate when airborne concentrations are ≀ 50Γ— OEL. If your hazard assessment documents concentrations above 50Γ— OEL, a PAPR (APF 1000 with loose-fitting hood) or SCBA is required. Full-face APRs may not be used in IDLH atmospheres except under specific conditions defined in OSHA 1910.134(d)(2)
  • Eye protection integration: The polycarbonate lens provides incidental splash and mist protection β€” a significant operational advantage in corrosive chemical environments. Lens inspection and replacement schedules should be documented in the written program

Who Needs the Medium/Large Size?

The Medium/Large size covers the majority of adult workers in the North North 7600 Series. The North 7600 Series full-face comes in two sizes β€” Small and Medium/Large β€” and M/L is the recommended starting point if you have not been fit tested. If OSHA-required fit testing confirms an inadequate seal in M/L, move to the Small (760008AS). Facial dimensions β€” not body size or height β€” determine the correct respirator fit; do not select size based on general stature or weight.

Important: Do not select size based on general body size or height. Facial geometry determines respirator fit. The 760008A and 760008AS are identical in every respect β€” NIOSH approval, APF, cartridge compatibility β€” except facepiece geometry. OSHA 1910.134(f)(2) requires annual fit testing regardless of size chosen.

Frequently Asked Questions β€” Honeywell North 760008A

Why choose a full-face respirator over a half-mask?

The primary reasons are protection level and eye protection integration. A properly fit-tested full-face APR carries APF 50 β€” five times the APF 10 of a half-mask. If your hazard assessment documents concentrations between 10Γ— and 50Γ— OEL, a full-face is required by OSHA. Additionally, the polycarbonate lens protects eyes from splash and mist in corrosive chemical environments, eliminating the need for separate chemical goggles in many situations. For environments ≀ 10Γ— OEL where eye protection is not required, a North half-mask (7700 or 5500 series β†’) provides the same North bayonet cartridge access at lower cost.

Can I use 3M cartridges on the North 760008A?

No. The North 760008A uses the North bayonet twist-lock connection, which is incompatible with 3M, MSA, or Moldex cartridges. All cartridges must be North-branded bayonet cartridges. See: North Respirator Cartridges & Filters β†’.

What NIOSH approval does the North 760008A carry?

The 760008A is NIOSH approved under 42 CFR Part 84 as a TC-14C full-face tight-fitting air-purifying respirator. Under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 Appendix A, a properly fit-tested 760008A carries an APF of 50 β€” appropriate when airborne concentrations are ≀ 50Γ— the OEL.

What size do I need β€” Small or Medium/Large?

Facial geometry β€” not general body size β€” determines correct fit. Start with the M/L (this product) if you have not been fit tested β€” it covers the majority of adult workers. If OSHA-required fit testing confirms an inadequate seal, move to the Small (760008AS). OSHA 1910.134(f)(2) requires annual fit testing regardless of size selected.

What cartridges work with the North 760008A?

The 760008A accepts all North bayonet cartridges: 7580P100 (P100), 7581P100L (OV/P100), 7582P100L (AG/P100), 7583P100L (OV/AG/P100), 75852P100L (mercury vapor + P100), gas-only cartridges N75001L (OV), N75002L (OV/AG), and N75004L (NH₃). See: North Cartridge Guide 2026 β†’

Can the North 760008A be used for asbestos abatement?

Yes β€” the 760008A with 7580P100 P100 provides NIOSH TC-14C APF 50 protection applicable to Class I and II asbestos abatement under OSHA 1926.1101. Class I work requires a minimum APF 50 when airborne concentrations are above the TWA PEL. Confirm specific work classification requirements with a certified industrial hygienist before deployment β€” Class I asbestos operations may require SCBA or PAPR under certain conditions.

Does the lens provide chemical splash protection?

The hard-coated polycarbonate lens provides protection against liquid splash, mist, and airborne particles β€” in most chemical environments, it eliminates the need for separate chemical splash goggles. Polycarbonate can be degraded by prolonged exposure to certain solvents (ketones, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons). In heavy solvent environments, inspect the lens regularly and replace if cloudiness, crazing, or surface degradation is noted. For direct immersion in concentrated acids, verify lens chemical compatibility with the product datasheet for your specific exposure.

How does the 760008A compare to the 54001?

Both carry NIOSH TC-14C approval and APF 50 β€” the compliance standing and protection level are identical. The 7600 series offers premium silicone construction, 5-strap harness, and enhanced comfort for extended wear; the 5400 provides the same cartridge access at lower facepiece cost. See: 54001.

How often do cartridges need to be replaced?

OSHA 1910.134(d)(3)(iii) requires a written change-out schedule established before use β€” not based on odor. For P100 filters, replace when breathing resistance increases noticeably or upon physical damage. For vapor and combination cartridges, use Honeywell's service life estimation tools based on contaminant, concentration, temperature, humidity, and shift length. End-of-shift replacement is the conservative standard in high-hazard environments. See: North Cartridge Guide 2026 β†’

How do I clean and maintain the North 760008A?

Remove cartridges before cleaning. Wash with mild soap and warm water; rinse thoroughly. Use an approved disinfectant and allow to air dry β€” do not use solvents or bleach on the silicone face seal or polycarbonate lens. Inspect the face seal, exhalation valve, head harness, and lens before each use. Replace the lens if it shows crazing, cloudiness, or surface degradation that impairs visibility or seal integrity. Write lens inspection and replacement into your respiratory protection program.

Buy this, follow the instructions, and buy the correct filters.
UPDATE: I found a specialty eyewear store online that sells the prescription glasses that are designed to be inserted inside this respirator. They are North model #760024. You can't buy them on Amazon, but you can get them at safevision (dot) net. You can order them pre-made with your prescription. I purchased bifocal lenses (costs more). I only need glasses for reading. When wearing the mask, you can't remove the glasses from your face for viewing things in the distance. The bifocals allow me to wear the mask at all times when I am exposed to other people. For the CoronaVirus, buy 7580P100 filters. They were sold-out on Amazon when I bought the mask, but I found the filters on a different e-auction-site (you can guess the site).UPDATE 2: Since writing this review, I have searched extensively to confirm that the P100 filters will actually capture particles as small as the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The answer is YES. I am sorry that I did not retain all of my research... but, yes... the P100 filters WILL capture the virus before you inhale it.Follow the included instructions to test for leaks and correct fitment of the filters. This mask seals 100%. It is very comfortable and easy to fit on your face. It is FAR, FAR better than N95 masks... if you buy the correct filters. The mask is designed so that when you inhale, the fresh, cool air comes in to keep your face cool, and helps to de-fog the clear plastic part of the mask. It is much more comfortable than the N95 masks.I was surprised when I went to a big-box store with a W in the name. Nobody even looked at me twice. It was as-if it is "normal" to wear a full-face mask in public!Later, I went to a convenience store. The only person who noticed or made a comment about my full-face respirator was an employee in the store. He said, "THAT's the kind of mask that everyone needs!"This is true. 100% particulate air filtration (with the P100 filters), and a perfect seal on your face... and complete eye/nose/mouth protection. Read the manual to learn how to tighten the straps and test the air seal. If you have the correct filters... you are WAAYYYY better protected than people who are wearing N95 masks... and even better protected than people who are wearing surgical masks (which only protect those around you).

Serious Equipment
Perfect staple for dodging apocalyptic wildfires, viral pandemics, or participating in your local revolution. This item was purchased to become part of a preparation kit along with food, water, etc.., and is spendy, but apt to do the job and maintain relevance for many years to come.Everything is top-notch and well-built. The visor provides total field of view and never fogs when secured properly. I prefer this model's threaded cartridge/filter holder style as opposed to 3M's tri-pronged bayonet design as it seems less likely to break.Only gripe is that the center strap can become slightly uncomfortable on the top of the head, but overall the silicone construction is comfortable for periods of extended use.Easy to disassemble and clean, and certainly gives you that feeling of security that you'd want from a serious safety precaution item.If you are going to spend the money on an item like this, buy the best, and make sure to to stock up on filter cartridges

The top part of the mask is not very comfortable
I am a Nurse who takes care of covid19 patients most of my shift. Nobody would normally wear this mask for long periods of time but for my safety I wear this mask my whole 12 hour shift and get PPE rest breaks in between. I feel an uncomfortable feeling on my forehead and when I take the mask off my forehead is sore and red. There is somewhat a hard part of the mask that is pressing against my forehead that makes my forehead sore. But overall I like this mask because it gives me 100 percent seal and makes my breathing easier especially during busy shift that I have to be running around in the ICU. The mask is somewhat on the expensive side as well as the accessories that comes with it but its worth the money that I paid as long as it protects me from contracting the virus. I recommend this mask for any healthcare worker who have problems fitting half mask.

No glasses. No stubble. Not ideal for cleaning the cartridges without a cover
I have some experience with respirators. This is an excellent unit but my key takeaways with this are as follows... If you are using in a healthcare setting with the gas vapor + particulate cartridges (not PAPR) where you will want to clean it constantly, due to the exposed filters on compatible cartridges (not included), you will want the accessory hard plastic covers. And I'm not sure if those are just for the pancake filters or not. Compared to the 3M respirators, the 3M units with outward facing cartridges are not open and as prone to collecting sputum and miscellaneous junk as these will be. Second, I skipped shaving one day and I found it harder (but still possible) to get a reliable seal so as my mother used to say, "shave your pus". (Pus means face, look it up) Third, if you wear glasses, forget it. You won't get a seal. It's just not possible. You will need a half mask respirator with googles if you need the eye protection or else wear contacts. The fourth point is that I was hoping that with the diaphragm it would be much easier to hear what I'm saying than it actually is. So I'm a bit disappointed with that however so far nobody has asked me to repeat myself. It just feels like when you're having a nightmare and are trying to scream but it doesn't come out. Maybe it's coming across louder than it sounds but it doesn't feel like it.That is all I have to say other than it is serving my needs well and a good replacement for what I had before although it's a bit on the heavy side and will be a cumbersome to wear for an extended period of time.

Amazing product. Even better vendor
I’d just like to start by saying the seller is an amazing person. Amazon gave my package to a thief and the seller sent me a replacement out of his own pocket because amazon wouldn’t. As for the quality of the mask, it’s perfect. I’m using it for the protests. The sealing is perfect, you can breathe out a hole to help vent but air you breathe only comes through the filters, and the glass is very strong. Shouldn’t shatter if you were to be shot in the face with rubber bullets.

This ain't five stars...IT'S A CONSTELLATION!!! BUY IT!!!
This mask has me feeling immortal. As a nurse in the ICU it has provided me with a sense of peace. BUY this mask. With talks of a possible second wave of COVID 19, this is an item you want in your possessionβ€”health care worker or not. The seal is impenetrable. Every hospital worker should have, and the mask is comfortable to wear. You’ll want 7583p100 filters.July 12, 2020. It's been a couple of months since I purchased this mask, with that being said I'm contemplating buying a second one--it's that great of a product. Recently I've set my sights on travel nursing--destination Arizona. This product is gold-standard, a fellow co-worker purchased this mask after seeing me wear it to work. This mask is pricey, however, I would rather spend $250 than thousands of dollars in COVID-19 hospitalization related cost.

Just what I needed
I have recently been stricken with wood dust allergies after a period of heavy work with exotic hardwoods. After 50 years of woodworking, this is a major bummer and has caused me quite a bit of discomfort. After trying simply over the mouth dust masks, and respirators along with a pair of safety goggles, I was still having difficulties, as well as serious goggle fogging. This full face mask has pretty much eliminated all problems. As I have a full beard, the fit isn't a total seal, but very close, and I think it is keeping the dust from my lungs and eyes sufficiently to keep the reactions to a bare minimum. I'm sure that if I lost the beard, it would work 100%, but I just can't bear to part with it. The fogging problem is now also non-existent.

Need additional purchases
Actually, this is just the mask no other components are added. You have to purchase additional products and additional being this high price. It does say that which it is my fault for not reading the entire thing, but at least they could have given you some option for filters. I would have never bought it at this price.

Heavy and less comfortable, but better easier the communicate with.
I used this mask as a critical care nurse during the 2020 pandemic while working with covid patients.Pros include the seperate speaking diaphram. You will be much more quiet, but your voice will still be clear and understandable without clipping out. Also, there is an inner and outer skirt that creates the seal around your face. This is compatable with papper systems as well. This mask easily disassembles for cleaning and should last a very long time.Cons include the weight of the mask, which is much heavier than the mid level honeywell or the half masks. Combined with the 5 strap head harness, fitting this without creating hot spots on your forehead can be tricky depending on the shape of your face and head. Part of this is due to the flanges being rather beefy and stiff. Tighten the lower straps first, then the temple straps and leave the top for last . Tighten the top only enough to get a seal while bending over. Even then, expect this to get annoying within 2 to 2.5 hours and uncomfortable by 3 hours. The mid level mask is lighter and more comfortable to wear, but speech can be huge issue, especially in a noisy environment with hepa filters and other equipment running. This mask is easier to communicate clearly in, though you still have to speak loudly, but the trade off is price and comfort.
