The 3M GoggleGear 500 GG501SGAF is an ANSI Z87.1 sealed safety goggle with a clear Scotchgard anti-fog lens, providing a secure sealed fit against dust, debris, and chemical splash from any angle — it meets OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133 and is a sealed goggle, not open glasses.

Why the 3M GoggleGear 500 brings Scotchgard anti-fog to the entry tier

A sealed goggle is only useful if the worker can see through it — and a spray-on anti-fog wears off fast. The GoggleGear 500 answers that at the entry tier: a clear Scotchgard anti-fog lens, 3M's premium coating for longer-lasting fog and scratch resistance, in an ANSI Z87.1 sealed goggle that blocks dust, debris, and chemical splash from any angle and meets OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133. As safety goggles go, this is the entry Scotchgard pick, and the glasses vs goggles guide and the ANSI Z87.1 guide explain when a goggle is required. It seals out splash and holds the anti-fog longer.

Safety first: as a sealed goggle the GoggleGear 500 is intended for a chemical splash hazard as well as dust and debris — confirm the specific D3 splash marking on the listing for your chemical. Where the face also needs coverage, add a face shield over the goggle; for flying-particle-only work, open safety glasses may suffice. Match the protection to the hazard with the glasses vs face shields guide, and retire the goggle when the seal or lens is worn.

What the 3M GoggleGear 500 listing documents

From the published listing: an ANSI Z87.1 sealed safety goggle (GG501SGAF); a clear Scotchgard anti-fog lens; a secure sealed fit against dust, debris, and chemical splash from any angle; and compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133. These are the listing's scotchgard goggle and sealed safety goggle credentials as a chemical splash goggle. Confirm the D3 marking on the listing.

How the 3M GoggleGear 500 compares to other eye protection

For the premium D3/D4 version, the 3M GoggleGear 3000; for the panoramic 6000, the 3M GoggleGear 6000; for an indirect-vent Centurion splash goggle, the 3M Centurion 454AF; for a Uvex Dura-Streme goggle, the Uvex Stealth S3960D; and for face-level coverage, the face shields collection. The eye protection buyer's guide covers the range.

Choosing the right eye protection for the hazard

Where it fits by job and crew orders

The GoggleGear 500 suits construction, industrial, and general-purpose programs that want a sealed splash goggle with durable Scotchgard anti-fog at an accessible tier — see the construction eyewear guide and the manufacturing eyewear guide. Where a program needs the documented D3/D4 rating and cloth-strap comfort, step up to the GoggleGear 3000, and where a wider field of view is the priority, the panoramic GoggleGear 6000 is the alternative on the same sealed platform. Confirm the D3 marking on the listing, and retire the goggle when the seal or lens is worn. Good goggles
Good quality, like everything 3M makes. They are not completely fog free, but they're better than most. These goggles are intended to work with 3M half-mask style respirators.

Best goggles for grinding with respirator
I think these are my favorite safety glasses overall. They fit good with a 3M half mask, extremely clear optically, curvature doesn't give much distortion if any of that I can tell of, and very comfortable for extended periods. I can still get them to fog if it's hot, but I've never had glasses that don't when it's hot and I have a welding helmet on.I've tried a few different brands because I had a speck of metal bounce off the nose piece of my respirator and flew into my eye behind a pair of regular safety glasses. I knew at that moment I needed to have something better like goggles. Im not a big fan of face shields especially since I often have a welding helmet on. If you have an easy access grind mode on your helmet maybe that works, but I still prefer to flip my hood up for better visibility. These fit really well under a helmet since they are pretty low profile.

Won't work if you wear eyeglasses
Quality is great and seem comfortable, but they won't fit over eyeglasses, so will have to return them. In that, I am disappointed. I would encourage them to make this clear in the description. Furthermore, I would suggest making them a little bigger to accommodate those who wear eyeglasses.

Best goggles I've ever used
I have a pair of fog-feee safety glasses that are indespensible while working around the house, but sometimes, you just need the extra protection from goggles. I usually wear these while spray painting in a small paint tent, while wearing a half-face respirator. They are honestly as light and comfortable as glasses. They won't fog, but they don't make moisture magically disappear. You will accumulate some droplets inside and will need to ocassionaly wipe them down. All-in-all, about as much as you could possibly expect from goggles.

No ventilation in these goggles but they don't fog but moisture builds up on the lenses
I bought these for woodworking and I must have read the description wrong as there is no venting in these goggles. I was excited when I put these on because they had such a great fit and sealed well. What I didn't notice was the lack of ventilation holes or slots. While I was doing some light work I noticed my vision seemed as though I was looking through water. I took them off and cleaned them well and put them back on and tried again only to have the same thing happen except worse. I do have to say they did not fog up, the moisture just gets on the interior lens and starts to run down like a waterfall, but no fogging. I returned this product for one that had ventilation. These would be good for someone that is not doing too much work and create moisture inside the goggles. They had all the ratings that I was looking for and were easy to adjust.

They protect your eyes very well
You will absolutely look like a nut wearing these. BUT getting high velocity rust and metal shards in your eye is way worse. I chose these specifically knowing they would grip my big head and close all the pockets around the lenses. I didn't get one single piece of trash in my eyes. I stripped my truck down to the frame and ground all the rust and everything off. I also used a die grinder with a carbide tip on the cab spot welds. Anyone who's done that knows how horrible those metal splinters are. My body was covered in everything. My eyes were not. The goggles THEY FOG UP, sometimes not, but they do. I take a break and AIR DRY them and they have remained unscratched to this day.

Could have been better adapted to users of corrective lenses
This is a comfortable piece of equipment, but It's not well adapted to users of corrective lenses.
