WC Safety Editorial Pick: Microflex Supreno SE is WC Safety's pick for workers with confirmed Type IV nitrile accelerator allergy who cannot wear standard nitrileβ€”zero accelerator content at ~7 mil with EN 374 chemical protection.

For a full performance breakdown, sizing analysis, and comparison against alternatives, see our Microflex Supreno SE Accelerator-Free Nitrile Gloves in-depth review published by the WC Safety editorial team.

The Microflex Supreno SE is the Ansell Microflex product for confirmed Type IV contact dermatitis from nitrile acceleratorsβ€”manufactured without thiuram, carbamate, or dithiocarbamate vulcanization accelerators entirely, at ~7 mil with EN 374 chemical protection. For workers who have had a confirmed occupational health diagnosis of Type IV nitrile accelerator allergy, the Supreno SE eliminates the allergenic agents while maintaining certified chemical resistance.

Healthcare workers, laboratory personnel, and industrial technicians with confirmed Type IV accelerator contact dermatitis who are unable to wear standard nitrile exam gloves. Also used proactively in facilities implementing accelerator-free programs to address emerging evidence around accelerator sensitization. The EN 374 rating makes it suitable for lab chemical handling tasks simultaneously.

Compatibility and Application

Accelerator-free construction is the zero-accelerator option in the Ansell Microflex line. For reduced-accelerator (lower cost) for mild sensitivity, see Ansell SU-690 Violet. For confirmed allergy, the Supreno SE is the appropriate product. Confirm with your occupational health physician before selecting. For a broader selection, browse the complete nitrile gloves collection at WC Safety, organized by thickness, brand, and intended use.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Zero accelerator contentβ€”the correct product for confirmed Type IV nitrile accelerator contact dermatitis
  • EN 374 chemical protection certified alongside the allergy-safe formulationβ€”dual-function for lab and clinical use
  • ~7 mil provides extra durability compared to thin 3–4 mil exam options while remaining hand-conforming
  • Ansell Microflex quality documentation for occupational health compliance and allergy management records

Cons

  • 50 per box at accelerator-free premium pricingβ€”cost-prohibitive for non-allergic workers who don't need this formulation
  • ~7 mil reduces tactile sensitivity compared to thin exam alternatives

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need accelerator-free or just reduced-accelerator?

A confirmed Type IV contact dermatitis diagnosis from an occupational health physician or dermatologist is the indicator for zero-accelerator. If you have mild skin irritation from standard nitrile that resolves with reduced-accelerator gloves, reduced-accelerator (Ansell SU-690 Violet) is typically sufficient.

Can I use Supreno SE if I haven't had a confirmed diagnosis but want to be proactive?

Yes. Accelerator-free gloves are safe for any user regardless of diagnosis. The trade-off is higher per-pair cost. Facilities implementing proactive accelerator-free programs for all staff use them facility-wide.

What sizes are available?

XS, S, M, L, XL. Confirm sizing with the Ansell sizing guide.

How many gloves per box?

50 gloves (25 pairs). Ambidextrous.

Can the Supreno SE be used in pharmacy compounding?

Yes for hazardous drug handling where the EN 374 chemical protection panel covers the relevant drugs. Verify the EN 374 tested chemical list against your drug inventory. For formal USP 800 compliance, confirm with your pharmacy compliance officer.

Is the Supreno SE covered under any FDA regulation?

The Supreno SE is manufactured as a medical examination glove under FDA 21 CFR 880.6250. Accelerator-free formulation is the manufacturing choiceβ€”FDA does not require accelerator-free gloves specifically.

Can I get a manufacturer letter documenting the accelerator-free formulation for my medical records?

Yes. Ansell provides technical documentation confirming the Supreno SE accelerator-free formulation for occupational health records. Available through Ansell's professional documentation portal.

Does accelerator-free mean the glove has different elasticity?

Yes. Accelerator-free vulcanization produces a slightly stiffer glove than traditional accelerator-vulcanized nitrile. The Supreno SE at ~7 mil compensates with its thicker gauge for durability. Most users adapt quickly to the fit difference.

What is the shelf life?

Three to five years in cool, dry storage.

Is the Supreno SE available through a laboratory supply distributor?

Yes. Contact Ansell or your lab distributor for availability and pricing. The WC Safety Amazon listing is an additional procurement channel.

Can I order a single box to test fit before committing to a case?

Yes. One box (50 gloves) is the minimum Amazon order. This is sufficient to evaluate fit and comfort before bulk procurement.

Is 'Supreno SE' the same product as 'Microflex SU-690'?

No. The SU-690 is a reduced-accelerator product (lower concentrations); the Supreno SE is a zero-accelerator product (no accelerators). Different formulations at different price points for different levels of sensitivity.

Highly Recommend for Outside Chemical Work
Great quality gloves. Enough thickness to use for 4 hrs of (non-medical) work without tearing, yet thin enough to feel what you are doing and have a confident grip. These are our go-to brand for working with yard chemicals as a profession. Great quality to value ration.

These are like latex in fit and feel, but...
No question, these are the best nitrile gloves for the price on the market. They last a long time and give you all the benefits of nitrile, but are more flexible than most other gloves. These gloves also feature fairly high wrist coverage.Nitrile gloves in general are very inelastic, but these gloves stretch well. The sizing is accurate, and they are comfortable to wear. I have found that Microflex, makes the best gloves. Both the diamond grip (latex) and the Supreno (nitrile). Depending on your task, you can't go wrong with either one. They are thicker than many gloves, and hold up better while working.Be sure to wear nitrile gloves for oils, etc. Latex for alcohol, acetone, etc. These gloves are not medical grade. That said, I highly recommend. Will definately buy more when these run out.

Post-Pandemic product line
Having worked on sailboat engines in front of a lot of tech customers (culture vultures) in SF, they all saw my gloves and I feel partially responsible for their current amateur popularity. I discovered them ten years ago, having ordered 6 different brands to see what was best. Since the pandemic, they now fail a bit sooner than before, and I see people on YouTube wearing them.
