Best For: corded single-use foam hearing protection at NRR 33 dB in a low-profile uncorded design.

Not For: non-noise hazards, or noise that earplugs alone can't bring under ~85 dBA (add earmuffs).

3M E-A-Rsoft SuperFit 312-1256 Cordless Earplugs Overview

The 3M E-A-Rsoft SuperFit 312-1256 Cordless Earplugs are cordless single-use foam ear plugs from 3M, rated NRR 33 dB. With no cord to catch or snag, they keep a low profile for tight and confined spaces β€” the most economical choice for high-volume single-use. Start with our hearing-protection guide and what NRR means, then confirm the noise level you’re protecting against.

The 3M E-A-Rsoft SuperFit 312-1256 belong to the cordless ear plugs range and the NRR 33 ear plugs group. They are single-use (replace when soiled or no longer springy); for the trade-offs see foam vs reusable ear plugs.

What NRR 33 dB Means

NRR is a laboratory rating; NIOSH suggests derating it for real-world use. Here is how NRR 33 dB lines up with common environments (always confirm with a noise survey):

Environment Approx. noise Fit for NRR?
Power tools / workshop (~95 dBA) ~82 dBA after derating Good fit
Heavy equipment / construction (~100 dBA) ~87 dBA after derating Good fit
Manufacturing / plant floor (~90 dBA) ~77 dBA after derating Good fit
Firearms / impact (140 dB peak) Impulse noise Add earmuffs (dual)

Who Should Buy the 3M E-A-Rsoft SuperFit 312-1256?

Buy them if you want single-use foam hearing protection in a low-profile uncorded design at NRR 33 dB. Consider another plug if you need a different level or style: compare E-A-R UltraFit 340-4003, E-A-Rsoft FX 312-1261, E-A-R Push-Ins 318-1000. For the highest ratings see highest-NRR ear plugs.

Hearing protection only works when worn correctly for the full exposure. The NRR is a laboratory rating; real-world attenuation is typically lower, so OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating it when estimating protection. For very high noise β€” or whenever earplugs alone can’t bring exposure under about 85 dBA β€” wear them with earmuffs (dual protection). The 3M E-A-Rsoft SuperFit 312-1256 reduces noise; it does not eliminate it or protect against non-noise hazards.

Best Applications

Industrial & construction noise

Power tools, plants and construction work at sustained high noise suit a low-profile uncorded NRR 33 plug that won’t snag in tight spaces.

Shooting & range use

For range and shooting use, pair a high NRR with muffs for impulse noise.

Pros & Cons

Pros
NRR 33 dB protection Β· no cord to snag, low-profile for tight spaces Β· soft single-use comfort Β· one size fits most
Cons
bulkier than uncorded Β· replace regularly Β· cord can snag in some tasks

Best Earplugs EVER!
Hands down the best earplugs ever. They are 1000x more comfortable than any other ear plugs I've worn. I'm not sure if it's just that I'm a woman or that I have smaller ear canals than most (I don't think so, but who knows?) but I have to sleep with earplugs in at night to not be awoken by my husband's snoring. With other kinds I will end up unconsciously removing them in the middle of the night because they cause pain in my ear canal. But not with these. I can wear them all night and not feel any pain or soreness. I let my sisters have a couple pairs and they both agree they're the best and even think they block out the noise better than others they've used. WE LOVE THEM!!

Comfort and Affodability in spades! 200 pairs!
Great, best I've ever put in my ears. They lower the sound by more than most, and are most comfortable. And believe you me, I've tried LOTS of different hearing protection through the years for working in the loud factory department I work in. And they work great for protecting you from the sounds of lawn care equipment too.

So soft and comfortable yet provides great protection like the standard "orange"
So soft and comfortable yet provides great protection like the standard "orange". Love wearing them under my motorcycle helmets as they are less likely to back out like your standard plugs. Plus they don't hurt your ears after hours on continuous use.

Perfect for motorcycling, loud hotels & shooting
This is my second box, and they are an item I never leave on a camping trip without. Motorcycling these are easily reused for a few days, and they block just the right amount of wind buffeting noise. Also work well for target practice.

TOO SHORT, 1 got stuck in ear
Quality materials and reduces noise at a concert to safe levels... but they're TOO SHORT, which means you have to push them further into your ear AND it means they can be hard to get back out! I got one stuck in my ear and attempts to get it out resulted in it painfully pushing against my ear drum. By pushing really hard on my surrounding ear area, I was able to get enough purchase on an edge of the plug to get it out eventually. Longer plugs are better. Stick to the EEM 1100's or Howard Leight plugs over these.

Best earplugs ever
Hands-down the best I've ever used. I tried a pair that mechanics I know use when they work, just to see if they'd help me sleep through the night better (I live on a main street downtown), and I couldn't hear anything at all. They should be replaced at least once a week to stay effective, but these have given me some of the best nights of rest of my life.

Wont stay in ears
They looked good but once you try to put in ear, they compress and wont expand. If your lucky enough to get them to expand, they wont stay in your ears. Very dissappointed.

Working in a package sorting facility every day, I'm around a lot of loud machines. These plugs help to filter out the ear-damaging sounds while still being able to hear voices.
