The 3M Virua CCS brings a practical hardware upgrade to the Virua frame: an integrated cord attachment loop that lets workers clip on a safety retainer cord and keep glasses close without setting them down between tasks. Every standard lens option on the CCS comes with 3M's Scotchgard Anti-Fog coating already applied — there's no standard-vs.-AF variant choice to manage. Frame colors are Blue and Black for visual identification on mixed-crew sites. The Blue / Clear Bifocal (BF49, $24.99) addresses workers who need magnification for detail work — a reading add-on built into the lower lens panel — without switching out of their safety eyewear. For workers who don't need cord management but want anti-fog at a lower price, compare the Virua AP AF variants; for sealed dust or splash protection, look at the Solus 1000 foam gasket kit.

Key Features

  • Integrated cord attachment loop — the built-in loop on the temple tip accepts standard eyewear retainer cords without adapters; keeps glasses accessible when not in use and prevents loss on elevated work platforms or confined spaces.
  • Scotchgard Anti-Fog on all standard variants — 3M's Scotchgard treatment is applied factory-standard across Clear, Gray, and Indoor-Outdoor tints; no need to select an "AF" SKU — every pair is treated.
  • Bifocal reader option (BF49) — the Blue / Clear Bifocal variant adds a 1.5× magnification reader panel in the lower lens zone, enabling close-up gauge reading, label inspection, or fine assembly work without removing safety eyewear.
  • Two frame color options — Blue/Black and Black/Black frames allow color-coded PPE assignment by department, shift, or hazard zone.
  • ANSI/ISEA Z87.1+ certified — high-velocity impact rated, satisfying OSHA 1910.133 and 1926.102 requirements; polycarbonate lens blocks 99.9% of UVA/UVB.
  • Classic wraparound coverage — curved lens geometry provides lateral coverage against flying debris, dust, and wind from the sides without restricting peripheral vision during equipment operation.

Available Tints & Coatings

Tint Coating Frame Color Best Conditions SKU
Clear Scotchgard Anti-Fog Blue / Black Indoor, general manufacturing, humid environments 11872
Gray Scotchgard Anti-Fog Black / Black Outdoor sun, construction, bright conditions 11873
Indoor-Outdoor Scotchgard Anti-Fog Blue / Black Mixed light; dock work, moving between indoor and outdoor areas 11874
Clear Bifocal (1.5×) Standard Blue / Black Indoor detail work; gauge reading; label inspection BF49

Applications

  • Utilities & field service — cord loop keeps glasses on the technician during climbing, crawling in cabinets, or leaning over equipment where glasses would otherwise fall off; anti-fog handles outdoor temperature swings.
  • Oil & gas / petrochemical — confined space entry and elevated platforms where dropped PPE is a hazard below; integrated cord attachment satisfies dropped-object prevention programs without a separate temple adapter.
  • Construction & renovation — Gray Anti-Fog handles outdoor sunlight; cord attachment prevents misplacement when workers remove glasses for measurement or paperwork.
  • Warehousing & dock operations — Indoor-Outdoor Anti-Fog tint covers dock door transitions; cord keeps glasses available for forklift operators who remove them briefly for label scanning.
  • Maintenance & inspection work — the Bifocal variant (BF49) enables gauge reading and fastener inspection without switching eyewear; the cord loop keeps bifocal glasses with the technician throughout the shift.
  • Manufacturing with detail assembly — clear anti-fog lens combined with bifocal reader serves line workers who combine impact-hazard work with close-tolerance assembly or quality inspection.

ANSI Z87.1 Compliance

The 3M Virua CCS carries ANSI/ISEA Z87.1+ certification on its safety lens variants (11872, 11873, 11874). The "+" indicates high-velocity impact testing — a ¼-inch steel ball at 150 fps applied to the complete frame-and-lens assembly. Polycarbonate lenses block 99.9% of UVA and UVB, meeting the UV400 protection threshold defined in the standard. The Bifocal variant (BF49) incorporates a magnification reader insert; confirm the Z87.1+ marking on the BF49 temple before specifying it for high-velocity projectile environments.

OSHA 1910.133 (general industry) and OSHA 1926.102 (construction) require appropriate eye and face protection whenever flying-particle, chemical-splash, or radiation hazards are present. Safety glasses satisfy both citations for most flying-particle and UV hazards. For chemical environments with splash risk above the brow or at the sides, a goggle or face shield provides the sealed protection that safety glasses cannot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cord attachment feature on the Virua CCS?

The CCS frame includes a pre-formed loop or port on the temple tip designed to accept standard eyewear retainer cords — the kind that loop behind the neck to keep glasses from falling to the floor. This is valuable in elevated work, confined-space entry, or any environment where a dropped pair of glasses creates a hazard below or becomes irretrievable. Standard eyewear retainer cords with bead-end or loop-end connectors are compatible; no adapter is needed.

What magnification is the Bifocal variant (BF49)?

The BF49 provides 1.5× magnification in the lower reading zone — sufficient for most gauge reading, fine-print label inspection, and close-tolerance assembly tasks at standard arm's-length distances (approximately 14–18 inches). Workers who require higher magnification (2.0× or 2.5×) for finer detail work should evaluate dedicated safety reader glasses. The bifocal is incorporated into the lower portion of the lens only; the upper zone remains clear for standard distance vision.

Are all Virua CCS variants anti-fog?

The three standard lens variants (11872, 11873, 11874) all include Scotchgard Anti-Fog coating as standard — there is no separate "non-AF" option for these SKUs. The Bifocal variant (BF49) uses a different lens construction and may not carry the same Scotchgard treatment; verify with the product spec sheet if anti-fog is required on the bifocal pair.

What does ANSI Z87.1+ mean and why does it matter?

ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 is the U.S. voluntary consensus standard for occupational eye and face protection. It sets minimum requirements for impact resistance, optical quality, UV protection, and lens marking. The "+" suffix on Z87.1+ indicates the lens and frame passed the high-velocity impact test — a ¼-inch steel ball at 150 feet per second — which exceeds the basic Z87.1 drop-ball test. Most industrial safety programs and OSHA enforcement cite Z87.1; specifying Z87.1+ ensures protection against projectile hazards from grinding, fastener ejection, and chipping operations.

How do I choose between Clear, Gray, and Indoor-Outdoor tints?

Clear (11872) is best for indoor or low-light work — it transmits maximum visible light and gives accurate color rendering, important for wiring, circuit work, and label reading. Gray (11873) reduces overall brightness without color shift, making it the standard for bright outdoor conditions. Indoor-Outdoor (11874) splits the difference, offering slightly reduced transmission that handles both fluorescent indoor light and moderate outdoor brightness without requiring workers to swap glasses when stepping outside.

Can I wear the Virua CCS over prescription glasses?

The Virua CCS is not designed as an OTG (over-the-glasses) frame. Workers who require prescription correction should use prescription safety glasses or request a dedicated OTG safety glass. If the workforce includes both prescription and non-prescription wearers, the 3M SecureFit may accommodate some prescription frame sizes under the self-adjusting temples.

How do I clean the Scotchgard anti-fog coating?

Rinse with clean water to remove loose particles before wiping — grit dragged across the lens surface degrades coatings. Use a damp microfiber cloth or lens cleaning towelette. Avoid dry wiping, abrasive cloths, paper towels, and alcohol-based cleaners, all of which strip anti-fog treatments over time. The Scotchgard coating is durable but not indestructible; replace glasses when fog resistance noticeably deteriorates or when lens abrasion impairs optical clarity.

What is the difference between the Virua CCS and the Virua AP?

The Virua AP is the budget entry: $2.69–$3.89 per pair, four tints, and anti-fog only on Clear and Gray variants. The Virua CCS adds the integrated cord attachment loop, applies Scotchgard AF factory-standard across all three lens tints, and offers a bifocal reader option — at $14.39–$24.99 per pair. The CCS is the right choice when cord management is a program requirement or when bifocal readers are needed; the AP is the right choice when volume and cost-per-pair are the primary drivers.

Excellent fit and perfect for protection!
As someone who values eye protection and safety, I was excited to get these 3M Safety Glasses, and they definitely exceeded my expectations. First, the glasses are very well-made and durable. The lenses are scratch-resistant and are also very lightweight and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. This is essential for anyone who needs to wear them regularly like nurses, doctors, etc. Second, the glasses are very versatile and can be used for a wide variety of activities. They are great for both indoor and outdoor use, and they are suitable for a range of jobs, hobbies, and sports that require eye protection.Third, the glasses are very affordable. I looked around and these were the perfect price point and function. Now the best feature is the foam around them. It provides a PERFECT seal for my face at least. I had to wear them when caring for my sick child when he had covid (he was coughing up a storm and couldn't mask so I figured protecting the eyes is a must). Eye protection combined with a mask and I felt safe. After that experience I ordered two more for my son and hubby.Overall, I am extremely satisfied with 3M Safety Glasses and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality, durable, and comfortable eye protection. Five stars!

RINSE THEM to clean. DO NOT WIPE THEM.
If I were using these glasses in a climate controlled environment these would be completely mindblowingly awesome. But, as it stands, I am working inside the confines of a hot welding lab and, though the gaskets do form a great seal, (even with the venting slots) perspiration does collect, though not in "fog" form.Without the gasket these are superior in every way (yes better than my jacksons).Just TRY and fog em up.Visibility is exceptional and peripheral protection appears to be spot on. The ear protection connections come in handy immediately and do not bind.Came a WEEK early by the way. Fantastic! The loss of one star is less a comment on 3M's product and more a comment on the fact that gasket eye wear is just going to trap moisture. There's no way around it.Meaning: Buy these glasses no matter your work environment. They absolutely ARE fog free. Just don't expect them to be magical moisture eliminators. They're good looking too, so I'm going to save them for winter when I can work without sweating like a horse.P.S RINSE THEM TO CLEAN THEM (its right in the instructions)The anti fog coating (I'd call em "fog proof", actually) is tough, but not scratch resistant. Either way, its definitely worth the extra 30 seconds to keep them crystal clear.Without the gasket these are stellar and would get five stars.I know I can remove the gasket, but I feel I have to review the entire product as ordered and shipped.I expect these to become the standard for research laboratory PPE.Also wish they came with a carrying case. No biggie. Crown Royal bag works like magic.

One of the best I've used so far
For the last two years I've been on the hunt for the perfect work goggles.I work in maintenance and there's so many tasks where my eye condition hinders my ability to work efficiently. Suffering from Keratoconus, an hereditary condition that weakens my cornea and reduces my vision to almost 20/400 I have to wear extremely aggravating Rigid Gas Permeable lenses. They feel like thick fingernails against your eye. Since there's a very thin layer of tears keeping them over your cornea it's very easy for a little speck of dust to get in there and wreak havoc. There's been countless times where a menial and simple task such as sweeping or getting under a sink and shaking some junk off the surfaces has caused me insane and intolerable amounts of pain. Sadly while at work I don't have my contact lens remover-a little plunger and a mirror to do it carefully since they can't be removed by hand. For the last year I used a pair of goggles I got from Walmart...they were okay for the most part. My biggest issue was that they would fog continuously and sometimes if I made a face it'd allow some air through, and unfortunately I'd be using a leaf blower or trimming--sending thousands of tiny painful particles into my eyeballs. Fast forward to a few months ago...the goggles were getting so scratched up that when they got foggy while I worked it was impossible to see through them, necessitating me to remove them every few minutes to clear the fog, then put them back on. By then I'd get dust all in my eyes or I'd have to close my eyes while I did this over and over. Now I got these glasses and everything has changed. I know these have small vents that might allow particles to get in but it hasn't happen to me yet. They feel cool as well, and the best part is that I have yet to see them fog up. Needless to say they work great.l. The seal is almost perfect and it blocks most large dust particles which is what I needed it to do.Getting under sinks now is not as much of a nightmare and I can see clearly while it's practically an over under there, or in the attic or crawlspace. The anti-fogging stuff they used is amazing. I'm very certain I'll be buying a few more of these again.

For those with large and slightly bulgy eyes - this is a dream come true.
I realize that this makes me seem like a frog-person, but I have no way of proving otherwise. So bear with me.Short story:1) Snug, comfortable fit with full eye socket coverage (check)2) Fog Protection (check)3) Fits on a respirator without leaking (3M 7000 series, check)4) Easy on/off (check)5) Cheap (check)6) Ladies love it (pending)Long story:I have been looking for my perfect safety goggles for a long time, and I have gone through a half dozen different models. I was feeling OK with one model for some time until I was sharpening a knife on my belt sander and a small piece of metal somehow shot around my goggles and hit me in the eye. Luckily it did not do any damage, but it was a reminder that properly fitting eye protection is extremely important. What you want most in safety goggles are a full wrap around your eyes (to prevent particles from entering). These do a great job in both respects, but I have had sawdust get through from a high velocity fan. Otherwise I have not noticed any penetration like I have with other goggles.Next, you want fog protection. Otherwise you won't be able to use them very long. I have worn these for hours without any fogging, and only once had to wipe them down after painting for an hour on a very hot day.The next thing your goggles need to do is fit snugly (and securely) on any other equipment you may be wearing. I was wearing chemical splash protection goggles for a short period until I realized they were no longer secure if I were to wear a respirator. These fit great even with a half mask.Typically goggles come with either an elastic strap or sunglasses-style like these do. These can come on and off easily with one hand, while you would not be able to do so with a strap. A strap can potentially give you a tighter fit, but can also get tangled with your hair or other straps if you are wearing something like a respirator. Also, in time the strap will lose its elasticity and you will have to replace it.This is also a great price ($12). You will not find a better product for a better price at your hardware store (I've tried).Whether or not my girlfriend actually likes me walking around the house in these or is just amusing herself is still data in progress.

but take it more like a really high C+
I'm giving them 3 stars, but take it more like a really high C+.... I just can't give 3.5 stars or I would. I really don't have much issue with them. They're comfortable, light, and they protect my eyes...which is the number one goal. They also weren't too expensive. My only issue is that I had to end up taking the rubber gasket out and that completely negates the extra protection you had by putting the gasket in to begin with. The problem I had is that I wear a helmet and a lot of gear...then I have to go do a bunch of work. The sweat just pours off of me and collects above the gasket (some of it does....most just drips off the side like its supposed to). Once enough sweat pools, it starts seeping between the gasket and the glasses or the gasket and my face (not sure which)....and the waterfall starts. This is a mess because the sweat streams down the lenses causing streaks, blurry water marks, and some fog. Its a combination of issues....but what it results in is me not being able to see. Its not even practical for me to wipe of the lenses frequently because I don't have time and my gloves are filthy anyway.... but when I was able to get them wiped off, the problem started again within moments.I finally just popped the gasket off and then the sweat could just fall down my face. After that I could see fine and there was no problem with the glasses.... but at that point they're no different than any other glasses. I don't know what could be done to make them better.... a person that sweats a lot and can't clean the lenses frequently may just need a miracle... but for me and my situation they ended up being a bit frustrating.Good glasses otherwise though, so if you just like them and don't sweat or will be using them in a cooler setting... they might just work well for you.

Excellent Glasses for Protection
I love these glasses and will be buying more, including the tinted model. I have a large head, and these fit incredibly well. Most safety glasses do not. In fact, I find that I forget I'm wearing them.I appreciate the padded attachment that provides additional protection. I took it off once, but I didn't care for the feel and was nervous about the lack of protection. The lenses stayed clear except once when it was really hot and humid. I'm not going to dock them for that; any glasses would fog just a bit.

Comfortable and effective, but didn’t last long
These 3M safety glasses were comfortable to wear and worked well for protection. The color is nice, and overall they felt good during use. However, they felt a bit overpriced for what they are, and they didn’t hold up very long—the foam padding eventually started to rip off. They work fine while they last, but durability could definitely be better.
