3M GoggleGear 500 Series GG501SGAF, Clear, Scotchgard Anti-fog Lens, 1 Pair

The 3M GoggleGear 500 Series (SKU: GG501SGAF) are ANSI Z87.1-rated safety goggles providing wraparound eye protection with a secure, sealed fit against dust, debris, and chemical splashes. Unlike safety glasses, goggles create a complete seal around the eye socket, blocking airborne particles, liquid splash, and chemical mist from reaching the eye from any angle. They meet the requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133 for eye and face protection in industrial, construction, laboratory, and chemical environments. Safety Goggles vs. Safety Glasses

Safety glasses provide frontal and side impact protection but leave gaps at the top and sides of the eye socket. Safety goggles form a continuous seal against the face, protecting against threats that safety glasses cannot stop: fine dust, chemical mists, liquid splash, vapors, and fine particles blown from any direction. OSHA and ANSI require goggle-level protection for operations including chemical handling, grinding near others, overhead work with debris risk, and any application involving splash hazards. The 3M GoggleGear 500 Series meets these requirements with a comfortable, adjustable fit suitable for extended wear. FAQ β€” 3M GoggleGear 500 Series

Are the 3M GoggleGear 500 Series ANSI Z87.1 rated?

Yes. The 3M GoggleGear 500 Series (SKU: GG501SGAF) meets ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 High Impact requirements, the standard required by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133 for industrial eye protection. The Z87.1 marking appears on the frame and lens. High-impact Z87.1+ rated protectors withstand a steel ball impact at 150 fps (frame) and 102 fps (lens), far exceeding the basic impact standard.

What is the difference between safety goggles and safety glasses?

Safety glasses protect the front and sides of the eye but leave gaps where dust, splash, or vapors can enter from above, below, or the inner corners. Safety goggles use a flexible frame that seals against the face, providing 360-degree protection around the eye socket. OSHA requires goggle-level protection for chemical splash, dust, fine particle, and optical radiation hazards where the direction of threat is not limited to the front.

Do the 3M GoggleGear 500 Series protect against chemical splash?

The 3M GoggleGear 500 Series provide wraparound protection appropriate for dust and debris. For chemical splash operations, verify that the specific model you select carries the ANSI Z87.1 D3 liquid splash designation. Direct-vented goggles are NOT suitable for chemical splash β€” select an indirect-vented or non-vented model for splash hazards.

How do I prevent safety goggles from fogging?

The 3M GoggleGear 500 Series feature a factory-applied anti-fog lens coating that significantly reduces fogging in humid, high-temperature, and perspiration-heavy environments. To maintain coating effectiveness, clean lenses with a soft cloth and mild soap β€” avoid abrasive cleaners or paper towels that can scratch the coating. Anti-fog coatings typically remain effective for 1–2 years with proper care.

Can I wear the 3M GoggleGear 500 Series over prescription glasses?

The 3M GoggleGear 500 Series are not specifically designed as OTG (Over-The-Glasses) goggles and may not comfortably accommodate prescription frames. If you require goggle protection over prescription eyewear, we recommend our Uvex Stealth OTG (S3970DF) which is specifically designed for this purpose. Alternatively, prescription safety glasses with goggle-style side shields may be appropriate for your application.

What OSHA standard requires safety goggles?

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133 (General Industry) and 29 CFR 1926.102 (Construction) require employers to provide eye and face protection whenever employees are exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids, caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, potentially injurious light radiation, or a combination of these hazards. ANSI Z87.1 is the referenced standard. OSHA specifically requires goggles (rather than safety glasses) for chemical splash, dust operations, and certain grinding applications. The 3M GoggleGear 500 Series (GG501SGAF) meets ANSI Z87.1 and is an accepted form of eye protection under 29 CFR 1910.133.

Good goggles
Good quality, like everything 3M makes. They are not completely fog free, but they're better than most. These goggles are intended to work with 3M half-mask style respirators.

Best goggles for grinding with respirator
I think these are my favorite safety glasses overall. They fit good with a 3M half mask, extremely clear optically, curvature doesn't give much distortion if any of that I can tell of, and very comfortable for extended periods. I can still get them to fog if it's hot, but I've never had glasses that don't when it's hot and I have a welding helmet on.I've tried a few different brands because I had a speck of metal bounce off the nose piece of my respirator and flew into my eye behind a pair of regular safety glasses. I knew at that moment I needed to have something better like goggles. Im not a big fan of face shields especially since I often have a welding helmet on. If you have an easy access grind mode on your helmet maybe that works, but I still prefer to flip my hood up for better visibility. These fit really well under a helmet since they are pretty low profile.

Won't work if you wear eyeglasses
Quality is great and seem comfortable, but they won't fit over eyeglasses, so will have to return them. In that, I am disappointed. I would encourage them to make this clear in the description. Furthermore, I would suggest making them a little bigger to accommodate those who wear eyeglasses.

Best goggles I've ever used
I have a pair of fog-feee safety glasses that are indespensible while working around the house, but sometimes, you just need the extra protection from goggles. I usually wear these while spray painting in a small paint tent, while wearing a half-face respirator. They are honestly as light and comfortable as glasses. They won't fog, but they don't make moisture magically disappear. You will accumulate some droplets inside and will need to ocassionaly wipe them down. All-in-all, about as much as you could possibly expect from goggles.

No ventilation in these goggles but they don't fog but moisture builds up on the lenses
I bought these for woodworking and I must have read the description wrong as there is no venting in these goggles. I was excited when I put these on because they had such a great fit and sealed well. What I didn't notice was the lack of ventilation holes or slots. While I was doing some light work I noticed my vision seemed as though I was looking through water. I took them off and cleaned them well and put them back on and tried again only to have the same thing happen except worse. I do have to say they did not fog up, the moisture just gets on the interior lens and starts to run down like a waterfall, but no fogging. I returned this product for one that had ventilation. These would be good for someone that is not doing too much work and create moisture inside the goggles. They had all the ratings that I was looking for and were easy to adjust.

They protect your eyes very well
You will absolutely look like a nut wearing these. BUT getting high velocity rust and metal shards in your eye is way worse. I chose these specifically knowing they would grip my big head and close all the pockets around the lenses. I didn't get one single piece of trash in my eyes. I stripped my truck down to the frame and ground all the rust and everything off. I also used a die grinder with a carbide tip on the cab spot welds. Anyone who's done that knows how horrible those metal splinters are. My body was covered in everything. My eyes were not. The goggles THEY FOG UP, sometimes not, but they do. I take a break and AIR DRY them and they have remained unscratched to this day.
