Great choice for a low maintenance CO2 detector
Carbon monoxide (CO) is often called the "silent killer" because it is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. A reliable detector is a non-negotiable safety requirement for any home or office. The Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector offers a "set it and forget it" approach to safety with several professional-grade features.Key Features10-Year Sealed Lithium Battery: The standout feature is the long-term power supply. Unlike older models that require annual battery swaps, this unit is designed to last a full decade.LED Status Indicators: The face of the device includes color-coded LEDs (typically Green for power, Amber for fault/end-of-life, and Red for alarm) providing a quick visual confirmation of the unitβs health.85 dB Audible Alarm: In the event of a CO leak, the 85-decibel siren is loud enough to wake sleepers or be heard through closed doors, meeting standard safety regulations.Self-Testing Capability: The unit features a prominent Test/Silence button to ensure the circuitry and siren are functioning correctly. The ProsMaintenance-Free: The 10-year battery eliminates the annoying "low battery" chirps in the middle of the night for the lifespan of the sensor.Compact Design: It features a clean, unobtrusive aesthetic that blends well with most wall or ceiling textures.Ease of Installation: Since it is battery-powered, no wiring is required. It can be mounted easily with a simple bracket or even placed on a high shelf.End-of-Life Warning: The device is programmed to signal when the 10-year mark is reached, ensuring you know exactly when the sensor itself has expired and needs replacement. The ConsNon-Replaceable Battery: Once the 10 years are up, the entire unit must be recycled and replaced. You cannot simply put in a new battery.Basic Interface: It lacks a digital display (ppm readout) found on more expensive models, which can tell you the exact concentration of CO in the air.Final VerdictThe Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector is an excellent choice for those who prioritize reliability and low maintenance. It provides the essential protection needed without the hassle of frequent battery changes. I suppose that if I never hear the alarm it will be a good thing but that would be the only way I know it is working.

It works
I am not quite sure how to evaluate a carbon monoxide detector. I can say it works and it was super easy to mount.

Well worth the price!
I have the required number of smoke detectors with the carbon monoxide detectors but I really like having this separate one that JUST sets for CO was sort of a reliability checker, let's have a stand alone checker to double check all the others and make sure that we haave soothing completely separate, not checking anything els. You hear horror stories and I hav chronic. It blends in with the paint so it doesn't stand out and look headaches so there are days when I will have aa much worse headache and I truly wonder.... could this b from something else? I check all my symptoms aand honestly look at carbon monoxide was a possibility. Now I have this as an extra added measure of protection not just for myself but for my family and it really gives me piece of mind. So far I have not had it go off, no going off when it shouldn't which happens with the smoke detectors occasionally. The color just blends in with the wall color so it is't offensive looking and I just feel a little bit safer having it in the bedroom hallway. Any additional safety measure is worth the money o me and I would highly recommend this item to anyone whether you have a family to protect or you live alone.

Nice and convenient basic model (COB10). Tasteful update to the previous generation.
I got the model "COB10" Gen 5, which is the most basic built-in-battery model. It's nice and simple. It has no informative display; just a small 2-color LED (green = good; red = alarm). But this unit makes up for that in simplicity, small design, and my favorite feature: It won't do the "low-battery" chirps at night time (It has light sensor -- but don't worry, regular alarms aren't affected by the low-light "night" mode.)FYI: Not really a con or danger, but FYI, the base model COB10 does not monitor or alert for "Low level -- between 31 and 50 PPM," which is a level for health concern, not an immediate danger (per its user manual). So this is an alarm-device, not a health-monitoring device.NOTE: As with some other "10-year battery" devices, this has a MANDATORY end-of-life after 10 years. It seems to have a built-in timer that will force an end-of-life chirp, even if the battery is still good (my last CO detector did that). They imply it's a safety feature because the CO sensor itself becomes less reliable. But it's still a waste that it becomes plastic and lithium-battery garbage, with no easy recycle options.SIZE: 5" W x 2.75" H x 1.5" D (127mm W x 70mm H x 38mm D).PROS:+ Prevents nuisance "low-battery" chirps during night time (has a light sensor). NICE!+ Smaller, and more stylish than the rectangular previous generation (which I owned several).+ Has tiny "feet" so it can stand upright on a shelf. OR it can also be wall-mounted.+ Pressing "Hush" silence button also re-tests the air. High levels will result in another alarm "within 6 minutes."+ 10-year battery is nice, affordable and convenient (I hope it lasts that long).CONS:-- Spendy price, based on the currently marked at $46 USD. I can get a combo smoke+CO for less.-- Mandatory end-of-life after 10 years.

Great little CO detector!
The Kidde 10-Year Carbon Monoxide Detector stands out immediately for its compact size and modern design. To me Itβs noticeably smaller and sleeker than most detectors Iβve used, which makes it ideal for tighter spaces like my shuttle bus conversion. The biggest selling point here is the 10-year sealed battery, which is a bold claimβbut also a huge convenience. Not having to worry about battery changes for a decade is exactly what you want in something designed for safety and peace of mind.In my case, Iβm using this in a shuttle bus conversion where I occasionally run a diesel heater (properly vented outside). Even though we donβt typically sleep in it, having a reliable CO detector adds an extra layer of confidence if we ever do. Itβs one of those things you hope you never needβ¦but absolutely want if you do.Build quality is excellent, and everything feels very solid, durable for bouncing around driving down the highway, and well-assembled. It has been thoughtfully designed in many ways. One important note:The battery activation instructions could definitely be clearer. Especially what is written right above where you have to activate it on the back of the unit. Basically, youβll need to remove the red tab and slide the activation switch to engage the unit. The wording on the back made it seem like this step was only necessary for wall mounting, which can be misleading. Be sure to reference the manual closely (and images help) so you donβt get stuck wondering why itβs not powering on like I did because there is no on and off switch except under that red tab.Overall, this is an easy 5 out of 5. Between the long-life battery, compact footprint, and dependable construction, itβs a smart safety additionβespecially for small living spaces, vehicles, or backup use.

Safety First
This Kidde COB10 carbon monoxide detector is a simple, no-frills safety device that prioritizes long-term reliability over features, which is exactly what most people want from a CO alarm.Setup is straightforwardβmount it on a wall or place it on a surface, and itβs ready to go. The 10-year sealed battery is the main selling point. Once installed, you donβt have to worry about battery changes, low-battery chirps, or maintenance for the life of the unit, which is a big convenience factor in hard-to-reach spots or rental properties. The unit uses a loud 85 dB alarm with a flashing LED indicator, which is plenty strong for alerting you even from another room. The status lights are easy to understand at a glance (power, alarm, fault), and the design is intentionally minimal so thereβs no confusion during an emergency.Performance-wise, this is exactly what you want from a CO detector: it sits quietly in the background until itβs needed. There are no smart features, app connectivity, or digital display options, but that also means fewer failure points and a more βinstall and forgetβ experience.ProsTrue 10-year sealed battery (no maintenance)Loud 85 dB alarm is easy to hearSimple LED status indicatorsFlexible placement (wall or tabletop)Trusted, established safety brandConsNo digital display or CO level readoutNo smart/home integration featuresBasic design (purely functional)Bottom lineThis is a reliable, straightforward CO detector for anyone who wants dependable protection without complexity. It doesnβt try to be smartβit just focuses on doing one job for 10 years without attention, which is exactly what a safety device like this should do.

Well-designed CO detector with no need to replace batteries.
Although we donβt have any gas appliances, we have always had hybrid vehicles since their inception. A possible issue with hybrid vehicles is when the driver forgets to press the βPowerβ button to turn off the vehicle. Although the engine may not be running at that time, the hybrid batteries are being used to supply power for the lights, dashboard, and other functions. Eventually, if left unattended, the hybrid batteries will be depleted enough for the engine to automatically start in order to charge the batteries. If the vehicle is parked in an attached garage, with the garage door shut, and there is an a/c unit air handler in the garage (like ours), the generated CO gas can easily be sucked into the ventilation system and could be deadly to the occupants. Although we have never had this scenario, itβs best to be safe. So when I saw this CO detector available, I had to order it. Remember that CO gas is odorless and tasteless, which makes it a potential silent killer. Here is what I like about the CO detector - Model COB10β¦.- Itβs a Kidde detector. Iβve only had Kidde smoke/fire detectors, which Iβve been generally very pleased with.- It has a built-in battery with a 10-year life. If thereβs one thing I hate with my smoke/fire detectors that run on disposable batteries is that annoying beeping that sounds usually in the middle of the night, indicating that the battery needs to be replaced.- It is very compact and unobtrusive, which can be mounted on a wall or placed on a table. I will be mounting my unit on the wall in a central location. Note that there are limitations to where to mount in order to avoid false alarms (see manual).- It has a test/hush button.- It has a very loud alarm!- Easy mount with two screws and anchors (if needed).- There is an βEnd of Unit Lifeβ indicator after 10 years (chirping). The one issue I have with this model is that it does not have the βLow Level CO Alert,β which could be very beneficial to most. Apparently, this feature is available on other Kidde models.
